Kryptonians are much weaker than their comic counterparts in this universe, just have to accept it. They do appear to be weak to explosions and surprise attacks specifically.

That was a lot better than a typical S1 episode. Flying still looks bad but the writing was much improved. I enjoyed it a lot.

So... does Supergirl take place in the Donnerverse or something? There was a pretty goddamn direct reference to the events of Superman 1 in this episode

I enjoyed that. Makes me want to pick up the series again after dropping it a few episodes into season 1. Superman was better than I expected. Loved the Tessmacher and earthquake references to Donner's universe.

Maybe it is a parallel universe.

I think it was an homage.

Yeah, you're right. It just intrigued me because mentioning the Superman 1 earthquake plus mentioning that Lex has been in jail for a while makes things line up with the Donnerverse. However Clark and Lois being together doesn't.

While I never expect the show to acknowledge it, my headcanon is that It's probably an alternate Donnerverse timeline. There's one Donnerverse that goes down the path of Superman 3/4, another that goes Superman 1-2-Returns, and then this one which probably goes Superman 1 (maybe 2) and then Supergirl.

Which of course raises the question, in which Donnerverse is Supergirl '84 canon?

EDIT: Actually thinking of it, Superman 2 probably can't be canon with the show because of Non and the Phantom Zone stuff. Probably?

I sort of took it as Superman, Superman 2 films and Lois and Clark show (like the Cat stuff) were all vaguely the history of this Superman. Not everything lines up and is 1:1 but it gives the character some depth, a sense of history and many fun references.

I like Cavill and this guy. I feel both are a product of their worlds, and +10 years on Tyler's Supes.

This. It's not fair at all to compare the two. Clearly this Supergirl's version has been operating for over 10 years. It also seems like they have an advantage of incorporating some of the Christoper Reeves Superman history into the character from the start to give an instant and familiar history. That's actually a really smart decision they made. I would argue Cavil's Superman isn't one that doesn't have those qualities. He just dealt with events we haven't seen another live action Supermen deal with. I can't wait until that new Superman movie so this can finally stop.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. A lot of people want a fully formed and experienced Superman. Seeing him grow into that version is something people have a hard time accepting or allowing to happen. The praise for Tyler's version (+10 years active and all the advantages it has) and the again crapping on Cavil's is an example of that.

All that being said it was very good premiere. Enjoyed it the best out of all the DC shows that have come back at this point. Glad the quality of the show didn't drop with the move to the CW. So no budget concerns just yet unless they're giving the first two episodes more money due to using Superman.

A possible alternate version of the Donnerverse which also includes the Supergirl film even though he had no part of it. That was a theory before I believe and it gets stronger after this episode. This episode and a lot of times in season 1 they do reference things from those movies and now they're referencing events and more characters.

Have to say, I am very happy that this is on the CW now. The first episode of this season so far is my favorite of supergirl. I hope they keep it up.

For the sake of the show I fucking hope not. That would be the biggest mistake of their careers.

I liked the Eps but I feel Superman outshines everyone else.

With CW now able to play with most of the DC toys, I now need a show called Worlds Finest. Cast Gabriel Macht as Batman and keep Tyler as Superman.

If the Arrowverse is actually allowed to use more DC characters again I hope they use Flashpoint as an opportunity to bring back
the Suicide Squad

Supergirl does grow into that version, she just does it while more soon showing what makes her super.

Supergirl did well in the ratings, not as good as Flash but better than everything else on The CW. Future is bright if this keeps up.

I wouldn't count on The CW being able to play with all of the DC toys. Superman was a pretty special case.

How much of a special case?

I feel like word of mouth on this will give a good +3/+7 boost too.

Supergirl had a pretty unprecedented network shift. WB knew that meant pulling out the big guy to help the transition.

They've made it very clear the immediate Batfamily is still not on the table for example.

You know, this is first world problems. Give us TV plebs the Batfamily. How awesome would it be if Nightwing is in this city. Ugh.

Superman is an important character to Supergirl. There's good reason for him to show up. Many of the other embargoed characters not so much.

Batfamily is a fan wank and is not necessary on any of the CW shows (also Gotham is a thing). This is the one form of DC media that isn't saturated with Batman, it's a nice change of pace.

Damn Zero. I just wanted to play too.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
I have zero interest in any Batfamily show or cameos unless it is a Grayson adaptation, in the style of Alias or Nikita.

I'd also say the Bat-family has the whole problem of Gotham existing which does tie up a lot of Batman supporting characters.

Granted, younger versions and all that, but assume first dibs

So Martian Manhunter and Supes doesn't like each other.

:(

It's one of those #SupesIsWrong situations too, unfortunately. Considering Superman and Supergirl are both susceptible to things like mind control, plus a third Kryptonian just landed on the planet, there sort of needs to be Kryptonite on stand by in case something bad happens.

Really liked the premiere, I also liked Superman but I can't help to feel he is to happy-happy, I guess my mind is poisoned with the DC CU Superman.
