Exclusive: Peter Parker to return from death in 'Amazing Spider-Man' #1 this April

Thirteen months after Spider-Man’s alter-ego was fatally squashed in the pages of his comic book, Peter Parker is about to make a miraculous recovery.
The nerdy Queens-born super hero had gone out losing to the nefarious Dr. Octopus — who trapped his arch-enemy’s mind in his own dying body just in time for him to croak. Doc Ock, aka Otto Octavius, survived in Parker’s body to take up the mantle of Spider-Man with no one else the wiser.
Writer Dan Slott had known Parker’s demise wasn’t permanent and the wall-crawling Mets fan would be back in the relaunched “Amazing Spider-Man” series that debuts this April, but he had to endure reaction ranging from death threats to Internet backlash to childrens’ tears while maintaining secrecy.
“To do that for a solid year of my life, that’s the hardest thing I’ve had to do — to look small children in the eye at a convention and lie to them,” says Slott. “One of them with an honest-to-God Little League uniform and a quivering lip. Inside, part of me was dying.”

He did, however, cave under the pressure when he met actor Andrew Garfield on the set of “Amazing Spider-Man 2.” After the actor who plays Parker on the big screen expressed his shock over the death of the beloved character, Slott admits he dropped some secretive hints.
“(Parker’s coming back) just in time, fancy that, for a major Spider-Man motion picture,” quipped Slott. “It seems uncanny. It was very nice for Sony to schedule the movie around the story.”

“It would have been great if you took a photo of my face at that time. I was not very thrilled,” says Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso of Slott’s initial pitch, during an editorial retreat several years ago. “Let’s just say that as cynical as the hard-core fanboy was, I was more cynical.” Alonso, however, adds that after five decades of stories that featured Parker battling a recurring set of villains and personal problems, “I do feel people will appreciate him a little more after this. I do think people have been taking him for granted.”

And over the past 13 months, the unthinkable happened: many fans gravitated towards the meaner, more arrogant Doc Ock version of Spider-Man — some maybe even prefering him to the goodie-two-shoes original.
“It feels like for every reader lost another reader jumped on,” says Matthew Klein, 27, a worker at Forbidden Planet, a comic book store near Manhattan’s Union Square.

Also the much better variant cover:

Whilst it's good to have Peter Parker back, I've really, really enjoyed Superior Spider-Man. It's a shame that the two concepts are mutually exclusive.

Just let parker marry mary jane and all will be ok again. Hopeuflly we get to keep Scarlet spider and Spiderman 2099 also.

I haven't read a single issue of Superior though I do have them around since I have a subscription. I will read them after Peter Parker is back, which was always the plan.

And gah, Ramos keep on ruining Spider-Man comics.

Well they made it over a year, good for them.

Also, someone should have told Ramos to redraw the eyes on the cover.

Not shocking at all. I'm kind of annoyed. Spider-Man in my opinion is one of the few major comics that had been solid since the start. When he died, it was interesting to say the least. They kept saying he was not coming back over and over, but how can you do this to such a beloved character?

Well... at least they're blunt about it I guess...

They made it a year...

I am really impressed. I would have been MORE impressed if Peter coming back was not telegraphed. I mean, we KNOW it was going to happen, but the WHEN should have been more of a surprise.

Still, I want superior to stick around and Doctor Octopus should be retired as a villain.

Ramos should also be retired...if you know what I mean...

I would ask why they just can't incorporate some of the edgier/darker elements of Superior into normal Peter Parker but then I remember, comics.

Nothing other than Peter moving away from NYC to start a new life fresh after he realises how little absolutely any of his friends and family knew him will make sense. Full on "fuck you people". Especially the Avengers and all other superheroes.

"None of you assholes realized I was a supervillain for a year? Come the fuck on."

You just described Scarlet Spider.

So I knew Pete was coming back, but completely rebooting the series comes as a surprise.

I'm guessing Goblin Undergound will be the final Superior Arc.

What is up with announcing all that stuff months ahead? What happened with surprising the readers?

And a shame, Superior Spider-Man really was superior in many fields IMO.

Would also be Bullshit if Peter just moves on with his normal live

FUCK.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

FUCK YOU MARVEL!

Real talk:

Superiour Spiderman made for some really great spiderman stories, and I would have loved to see a lot more of it. Maybe let Superior Parker learn what it means to be a hero once he reaches the bottom, instead of just replacing him with shitty old parker.

the true superior spider-book. Dearly departed :( Yost should be given Spidey. He even wrote the better Potto Parkavius too, making Slott's trolling look like the low grade trash its been since the terrible Ends of Earth run.

Nobody believes death in comc is is permanent. The death is simply a means to tell a story about how these characters deal with such a major event. Thats what Marvel wants to advertise. The resurrection is a given.

I have been out of comics for awhile.

Is superior worth reading?

Spidey was always my fav. Curious how the hell they made doc ock work at all
