Superman game confirmed for next-gen (by Singer himself)

I know we've got the Smallville thread (Or should that be Small-VILE?) but thought as this was real news it needed its own thread.

Superman Returns director Bryan Singer has revealed that Electronic Arts' long-in-the-making Superman game is being made for next generation platforms. In an interview with sci-fi magazine SFX, the Usual Suspects and X-Men director has offered hints about the gameplay - but with the game having been worked on since 2003, it will be interesting to see what form this leisurely-developed (by EA's standards, anyway) game will take.

GTA + Superman? (Conjecture, I know.) Count me in!

Spiderman 2 the movie game was awesome, hope they manage to capture the sensation of flying as well as Activition did with swinging.

Next-gen and free roaming Metropolis?!

(Please don't suck... Please don't suck... Please don't suck...)

Because this is next-gen and because your fuckin' Supes, if this is a free roaming game, I fully expect that you should be able to make use of all of Superman's moves with fully destrutible environments. Especially his "man of steel" body. If I want to fly through a building, damnit let me fly through a building and in the process make a hole right through it. I want massive battles with Supes and baddies getting thrown through buildings, monuments, into space, and being able to hurl shit like cars, trains, small houses, etc. I want a proper Superman game, not all the horseshit that has come before.

Wouldn't it be impossible to make a Superman game that sucks?

If I can't fly fast enough to cause the earth to spin in reverse..... no sale! ;)

IMO to make a good superman game you'd need to think outside the box, standard 'room of goons' action just isnt going to fly when you have a invunerable superhero as your main character...you need to challenge the player the way Superman is always challenged in comics, with decisions and morals and meteors (oh my).

I dont have faith in EA to pull off anything but standard fare unfortunately.

I pray this game won't suck. But, come on, EA is developing this. It's probably a game meant for the mainstream gamer that will enjoy just about any piece of shit.

Has there ever been a good Superman game?

The best I've played was Death and Return of Superman for Sega Genesis, and even it was an average beat-em-up.

All the other ones I'm thinking of rank among the worst games ever made.

That Superman arcade shooter was fairly amusing for its time. Can't remember who made it though.

I vaguely remember there being a multiplayer option where multiple Supermen would be on screen shooting lasers out of their eyes and causing all sorts of havoc.....

This could be pretty interesting if done right, a next gen Superman game in a massive city with calculated physics could be a whole lot of fun.

I'm semi worried about how the character models will turn out for this game though...I mean..I'm pretty sure Brandon Routh might be able to convince everyone that he is Superman on screen through his acting, but in terms of just physical looks he still looks kind of odd to me. Then again maybe it'll actually look better somehow as 3d models on screen or something....

The reason why Superman games suck, is becuase developers are crap. They seem to think that to have a game, you HAVE to have restrictions, for it to be challenging.

Developers are stuck in some assinine box they have created for themselves.

As soon as they start actually using thier pee-sized brains, and CREATE , a Superman game could be spectacular.

It doesn't HAVE to be a game-game per-se, but more of a;

ALL POWERFULL, ALL SEEING ILL DO WHAT I WANT, WHEN I WANT type of game.

My guess is that you'll have to punch and kick stupid ass enemies, and probably get knocked over by some piss-poor art-directed baddie.

Know what would make people buy a Superman game? The ability to fly off the planet, and go as far as you want into the universe.

I'd buy it just for that.

BUT NO.

It'll be dumb as hell.
