Survivor 34: Game Changers |OT| We Have To Go Back

Casting "Superstars" and "second chancers" in the same season was an absolutely idiotic move.

A combination of that and way too many twists has created a fairly bad season. When you have a million idols in play, the legacy advantage, a vote steal, an extra vote, and multiple swaps all going on, there's no opportunity to actually play the game, before you even consider pre-game alliances, existing relationships, etc.

In defence of all the crazy twists, they did the same thing in Second Chances and it paid off incredibly well. The problem here is all the no-names who banded together and somehow got every advantage and then never used any of them. If the people we liked got those twists and played them I don't think we'd be down on all the craziness of this season.

With that being said, I thought the combined tribal was terrible.

If the finale plays out the way the edit is pointing towards, the only positive vibes I'm going to have towards this season was Sandra queening it up pre-merge while improbably managing to survive 4 tribal councils.

I'm really fed up with this season being completely misleading us on the votes. It happened fucking twice in one episode! It's the players that should be played, not the audience.

edit: I guess the second vote was enough of a clusterfuck for them to get a pass, but this has happened multiple times this season.

Usually the vote is too obvious so I am ok with that

I'm still enjoying the season except for the 1000 idols, but pre-merge with Queen Sandra was clearly the greatest parts of the season.

I'm enjoying the season enough. The only thing I really hate is Sara not being able to go 5 seconds without saying "Game Changers".

Sara just has zero personality. If someone with a tiny bit of charm was playing the game she was playing I'd probably be loving it. But every confessional she gives is so zzzzzz. The same dead eyed stare and "this is game changers, I'm going to make a move" stuff. And this is the best edit they could make of have of her, they couldn't make her look any better! It's not really her fault I suppose, more so the production for casting someone so boring on a returnee season and then letting her (and Brad, Sierra, etc.) dominate the edit.

I would love to see a scenario where you steal the person with the idol's vote, unanimously vote them out, only to have them play the idol and have 0 votes count

A reveal card or something. When used, all players must confess they have X, or lose it. No hiding that shit, the target has been made

Andrea was a cutie and I'm sad to see her go. I was rooting for her and she seems to have played a good game, picking up on small social cues and whatnot (like with Sarah's reaction during the Sierra vote).

But I agree with everyone else about there being too many twists and idols this season. Can't they just play it relatively straight-laced for one season?

It would probably be handled the same way they did the no votes scenario in Second Chance: the tribe would re-vote and everyone is up for elimination except the person who played the idol and the person who won immunity. I agree the steal would be a nice twist on that scenario.

Did we even get that "idol hidden at tribal council" thing play out in the season so far? I forgot.

Pretty ballsy of Tai, thought he would have at least tried playing one of the idols for himself.

The season feels pretty meh so far. Not so much of a fan of the heavily manufactured "twists" that the producers planned e.g the combined tribal council.

I mean, it's entertaining...but..there's still that sense of it being "forced"

Bring back the auctions for the rewards please, kinda miss them.

Getting a bit tired of all these "balancing" immunity challenges too.

The editors should copy the style of editing in the Korean show 'The Genius'. It misleads the audience in the same way Survivor does, but then afterwards it rewinds to explain everything.

It was enough time for them to squeeze two episodes in this week.

I'm sure they could scrap the reward challenges and have a two minute rewind explanation whenever the audience is blindsided.

I don't know if it would necessarily work for Survivor because there is no reflection after the twist. There's no saying goodbye or filling each other in. If all you have is the tribal and then a quick segment all it is is a quick gotcha. It doesn't really feel the same because we're basically the only ones getting tricked. That's not really the case with The Genius.

Edit: They'd basically have to format their entire way of editing. They'd almost need to include the return to camp, but then you'd lose that ramp up to the next set of events.

I was cracking up on that.

Brad may go try to find an idol and I want fish, after we kick him.

"You should go fish"

Lol it was so oddly direct. I thought they were going to reference the scene later since it seemed so random to me. But maybe it was a factor in her going home. IDK.

Keeping with the conversation everyone has been having, The Ringer just put out an article about how the edit is too deceiving this season by not clueing the viewers into who is getting voted out.

I personally don't mind it like some others have said, but I can see how it can be annoying from another perspective.

I so wish Survivor did this--even if it were post-episode online content. Those first couple episodes of The Genius where they went all in on this structure made for some of the best TV craftsmanship I think I've ever seen.

That's my problem with this season. I can't think of any other player as boring as her having so much screen time. She's got anti-charisma.

I would love to see things get even more convoluted if Sarah was to win immunity at F6, so she has the idol, and decides to earn the support of someone, and she just hands the necklace to another person, then pulls out the legacy advantage.

Guess we will see. If Survivor tradition continues, the sour grapes on the jury are generally not too hot with flip floppers. She definitely doesn't feel like she's gonna get Michaela's and Cirie's support.

I can see Michaela holding a grudge since she makes everything personal but Cirie doesnt seem like that type.

We rarely see flipfloppers actually get to the end actually. They normally get taken out right before because they're too big a threat to win.

It's people who flip once and just utterly fuck one group (Cochran, Kass) who can't win jury votes.

Finally saw the latest episode.

Man, I was so pumped for this season. I had extremely high hopes. But I'm just not into it at this point. Excited for the finale to come so we can move on to 35...

If there's any proof that Survivor isn't a scripted show, it's this season, because all the favorites and entertaining castaways were booted in the premerge. God damn I was so excited for the likes of Tony, Sandra, Malcolm, JT... all gone so quick. Ugh.

of course the game is real. Everyone is out for a million bucks. You're a threat, you're gone. Malcolm and guys like ozzie will find it hard to win the game going forward. Don't even know why ozzie bothered to come back, he's never going to be let into the final 3 - and he still can't even play the game right what with the "I'm a provider schtick he pulled this season".

I'm still wondering if Tai somehow ends up winning with Troy, Brad or Aubrey being the other people in the final three. Sarah has too much of a target on her back and I think once she plays her advantage next tribal - everyone will want to get rid of her at final 5. So Cirie next week, Sarah the week after - leaving us with Troy, Brad, Aubrey and Tai. Honestly out of these people Tai and Brad have the best edits for potential winners but I just don't see anyone winning over Tai after he reveals he has had 2 HII in the final episode.
