Switch 2 Pre-Orders. Did you get one?

Is Costco in store only? They will basically be my conduit for Nintendo because they do 10% off eShop and physical games. I have a preorder, but they have a bundle with online that I will get anyways and are selling the pro controller. I am getting this ( I mean using this) as a gift for my oldest and his birthday is a bit after launch.

Really curious to see if this thing even becomes scarce. I think it will, but It might take a couple of days to burn through the stock that is in store.
Costco is a whole sale warehouse stores that requires membership. They are in some other countries but they don't have many stores.

It is probably easier for Switch 2 to offer enhanced versions than Series X because of the translation layer they made. However, you can't just instantly make everything work perfectly. For example, Yoshi's Crafted World is mostly 2D assets pretending to be 3D that are animated for 30fps. You can't just magically make that 4k at 60fps and if you force it then it just looks bad. Something like enhanced Pikmin 4 would actually be much easier to pull off.

But even for games where you technically could, the UI elements are made for lower resolutions and weren't designed around adaptive scaling, so you'd have to go through and redo all that so you don't end up with microscopic text and alignment bugs. So with a lot of lesser games, you have to wonder if it is worth going back and redoing a bunch of such elements to make it work properly. Yeah the DLSS can manage that on PC but that is because devs originally created the UI there with adaptive scaling in mind.

Now, for games that are a bigger deal, like Luigi's Mansion 3, Splatoon 3, Smash, Xenoblade and such, you'll probably want to do a full on "Switch 2 version" to do it really well for one and then secondly to cover the costs by selling the upgrade. I'm sure we'll see a lot of enhancing patches since it's so damn easy and they may want to use bigger ones as a pull for NSO, but it does take some effort to go back and adjust what isn't just the 3D part.
I hope you're right. I will happily pay $10 to upgrade for any exclusive that gets a patch!

Why does everyone want these GameCube controllers are they that vital to being able to enjoy the GameCube games on Switch 2?
Nostalgia is definitely a part if it, and frankly i get it. I definitely prefer the gamecube controller over the ps1-3 controllers (but not quite as much as the xbox line)

Secondly its mainly button placement (and analog triggers). The gamecube games were designed with that controller in mind so playing a game like, say, windwaker wouldnt quite feel the same as playing it with the og controller.
(they changed a few things around in TP/WWHD to play better with the wii u's pro controller, but obviously it wont be the same case here)

Codes 208 Codes 208 definitely got it spot on. It's a mix of nostalgia and games just being built around the controller especially first party games which I'm sure will make the majority of future titles.

I also vastly prefer playing on original hardware and/or original controllers. I bought the SNES and N64 controllers because I want the "authentic experience". I even keep a DualShock 4 connected to my PS5 for PS4 games as it just feels "right".

I just received the PayPal email about authorizing a payment in favor of Nintendo of Europe, and my order on the French Nintendo Store just went from "Preordered" to "Waiting for shipping".
Hmm, mine's still just status "Pre Order", a bit worried they're not able to charge my credit card. Thanks for the info though mate.

I was a bit worried too as I read that some got their card charged last week, but I guess it depends on the country.

BTW I just checked and now my order is "Completed", so it's packed and ready to ship I guess.

Fair enough, I ordered from Nintendo of Europe (Ireland) as well seeing how we haven't got our own store here in Sweden. Well I expect them to pull some money within two weeks (expected delivery was like the 12th June - which is fine by me seeing how I'm on vacation in Italy on release but still).

How does it work for GameStop? You have to get a ticket first even though you already bought it.. and then have to come again later at Midnight?

This is an email from GameStop about the switch 2 midnight release event.

Guys, who can be at the event, be at the event. Enjoy the moment for all of us. Those midnight things doesn't happen anymore because companies saw that people will buy anyway, so why expending money on it!?

I will be there.

Wasn't planning on getting a Switch 2 on release b/c I didn't want to deal with the whole pre-order anxiety plus money was a little tight since I got a PS5 Pro and I already have too many games to play. That being said, I took advantage of the 40% bonus trade and 10% for Pro so 50% extra and ended up with $650 so I figured why the fuck not. I'll show up at around noon and my store said they should have around 50 extra units so as long as there aren't over 50 people in the line you should be good. I'll bring a drink, a camping chair just watch shit on my phone until they let people buy em. The only catch is you have to pay in full at 3pm and then come back at Midnight to pick it up. FYI you have to pick it up at midnight or your Switch 2 will be sold to someone else.

well... this sucks. the Dbrnad kill switch for switch 2 wont be able available day one. will be second half of june for those of us who preordered one.

oh well.

Nintendo NY shadowdropped the Warp Pipe pass needed to get one at Midnight and it "sold" out immediately which really fucking sucked.

Now they're doing a drawing for normal store hours from the 5th to the 7th but, You can only enter once and and random if you get picked. I signed up for it and the drawing ends tomorrow.

I knew I should have tried for a pre-order from a normal website. I got my Wii and Switch from the stores Midnight launches and I didn't think it would be this big of a problem. Bleh.

I want to get one but boys, the maths ain't mathing...

- 470 for the console
- 40 for Zelda BOTW
-40+ for Zelda TOTK
- 40 for Mario Odyssey
- 10 for BOTW upgrade path
- 10 for TOTK upgrade path
- 90 for a joypad
=
700 Eurodollars

700 Eurodollars for being able to play 3 games (and previous gen ones at that)...
Not interested in Mario Kart or what have you, maybe I'd also grab a Mario party jamber-whatever (another 40) and...yeah.

Besides that, Death stranding 2 comes in 1 month and I still have to finish Khazan and Clair obscure which I'm gonna grab and...I just don't have all that free time, I love new hardware but, the value ATM is not yet there for me.

As a sidenote, here in Italy is gonna be available on various 3rd party shops without preordering etc.

They are now officially in the wild...

It's like a newly baked bread, freshly cook, smells good, and still hot 😆 By the way will Nintendo have a big promotional show or tour on the launch day itself like free demo, caravans, concerts and celebrity guesting?

You gotta go if you gotta go, man

Also, maybe the forum gets live in the launch day, so if anyone could stream, chances are that you will make history

Bummed I couldn't get any preorders. Got my dates mixed up and missed the first wave, then haven't received anything from Nintendo despite meeting eligibility.

+ no way I'm waiting at GameStop or Target on launch.

Might just bite the bullet and spend the $100 eBay scalper tax

GameStop opens at 11pm CST on 6/4. What time do you think I should get there if I want to get in and out quickly and buy an extra pair of joycons? Everything else is paid for.

The manager at our local GS shelled out her own cash to buy a prize for the costume contest. iirc it's this.

Pretty cool. Really looking forward to the launch party. We're going to party like it's 1999.

Our GS starts the payoff for Switch 2 items at 3pm PST, then pickup at 9pm PST. Since you already paid it off I'm not sure how early you need to be, but I'm going to drop in at around 2:30pm for a vibe check, then return around 6pm to wait in line. They said there will be 2 lines at our store for the 9pm launch event: 1 for the people who have paid it off and are solely picking it up, and 1 for people who are trying to get a launch day unit or buying other shit.

Preordered in Colombia (Alkosto), I hope they don't get delays, even here there was a store where it was already sold out completely, and I saw a banner in another online shop that the MKW bundle was sold out as well, then it wasn't there anymore so maybe they're getting more allocation.

I preferred to get the one without MKW because I'd have it the 6th or 7th in my hands, the bundle would arrive after 12th and TBH I'm way too hyped and have waited enough already lol. Also the game doesn't interest me too much, maybe I'll buy it right away digitally anyway, maybe I'll wait because I'll be busy testing Switch 1 games, only god knows.

So, if I want to upgrade say BOTW or Mario Odyssey, can I only pay the tenner and I'll be good to go or, do I have to pay for the Nintendo online upgrade sub thing where the updates are included ? What's the difference ? is it a yearly sub like Gamepass/PS plus ? I suppose that when said sub lapses I'll lose my Switch 1 to Switch 2 game upgrades ?

Also boys, is that onboard 256GB of memory enough ? Meaning, these upgrade paths are "patches" that ran alongside the game cart (like, say, on Xbox/PS) OR will it download the whole upgraded game to the console's memory ? (in which case the 256GB won't be enough).

I want to get one but I'm completely new to the Nintendo ecosystem...

Bonus question : Is Ninty's online shop any good ? Are there any frequent discounts like on Xbox/PS (which are basically almost weekly ?).
This looks like a console made for Arcade/pixel art games 😉

There are numerous posts on Reddit that pre-orders are getting cancelled from Walmart and Target.
So far, I think I am still good.
On Target. When i try to update the shipping address it says "cant change. Items currently unavailable for pickup or shipping"

But the order is still showing as active. Maybe it will get cancelled soon.

Any strategies for those of us who couldn't get a pre-order for a launch day score?

Or is it safe to assume there won't be any additional stock after pre-orders are filled?

Do you already own the game? Yes? Then you have 2 options.

1. Pay $10 to own the upgrade forever.

2. Pay for a subscription to the NSO+ Expansion membership for ~ $50 yearly. You only have access to the upgrade as long as you have an active membership.

No? Then you can just buy the Switch 2 Edition for $70.

256GB is enough, IF you mostly buy physical. If you play digital only or mostly digital you could easily use that 256GB up with 5-7 Switch 2 games. Then there's also Switch 1 games that will need to share that storage space.

The eshop is pretty good with sales, especially around the holidays. You can get lots of older games for really cheap (under $10 and $20). Newer games don't drop price until the holiday sales.

Much appreciated brother !

Regarding the Memory, do we know how the SW1 to SW2 upgrades will work ? Meaning, will it download the whole Switch 2 version to the console's memory (like how Xbox BC games do) or will it be just a patch that runs on top of the game cart ?

Thanks again
