Be extra careful where you buy your used Nintendo Switch game cards. A Switch 2 owner posted on Reddit about how their account was banned after downloading patches for a few Switch game cards they'd bought from Facebook Marketplace. The Switch 2 user contacted Nintendo support and discovered they were banned, but they provided proof of purchase and were unbanned shortly after. The Redditor said the "whole process was painless and fluid."

Nintendo attaches unique codes to its Switch game cartridges to prevent piracy. However, bad actors can copy games to a third-party device, like the MIG Flash, and resell the physical game card, meaning the code can exist twice.

"Basically, a thief buys/rents a game. They make a copy for themselves using the MIG dumper," dmanthey summarised. "They resell the original game and keep a copy for themselves on their MIG. Then both of you get banned when the Switch 2 goes online. Only one of you has the carts, so that's the person that will be unbanned."

We had a thread about this. I can see why Nintendo did it. and its great they were able to fix it right away.

however, hopefully there is a way in the future they can tell if its a real game card inserted in the Switch 2 and not a 3rd party cart to avoid this in the future.

pain to deal with a little? Sure, but not the end of the world.

Just be careful when you buy a switch 1 games to use on the switch 2. obviously this is a problem with Switch 1 games only. Switch 2 used games are not in this.

I mean it's Nintendo and honestly NOTHING they would do would be a surprise at all but this seems low even from them but Nintendo always seems to get extra bold when they taste success.

Now even used Switch games might end up flagging the servers and indicating your Switch 2 might be up for a ban
