Switch prices changing.

Feel free to white knight for greedy corpo and hell, go buy a few, just to support it. I am not going to even entertain this nonsense.
I didn't even moralize on whether it was good or bad. I don't white knight for anyone - just stated why it happens. I too think its fucked up that Switch 1 and their games haven't had a single price reduction this whole generation - but I understand why this price increase wasn't a shocker.

Wages went up dramatically after covid. I would know. I got a $4 pay raise (which is the highest the company had ever done in its 50 years) because of the high prices of everything else. And no. Lots of things are more expensive then they were back then. It's ridiculous.
How strange, where I live, electronics prices are going down, and salary has increased significantly from 2018 to the present.

Thank God.

I swear, they're being trained and molded to be dumber. I don't mean that figuratively. They are way more willing to just put up with bull shit then ever before, and just take it, and these companies love it.
Consumers are the biggest morons to ever exist, shit I am a consumer too, I know, but on no multi-verse would I buy this shitty 2010 hardware for $350 in 2025.
this is so retarded, more retarded than that is ppl blaming tariffs alone as if in the last 30 years we didn't had ONE economic crisis and yet consoles ( and other electronics goods ) always had price cut and ppl ll defend this as if the multi billion dollar company needed to do this to stay profitable.

Here is the deal with the OG switch, anyone who wants one, has 1 or maybe 2 (OLED or Lite etc) the reason companies discount their consoles at end of life, is to get the people who was not already in that Nintendo ecosystem. So making a cheap $199 bundle and getting them hooked on buying digital games and into their NSO etc would pay off FAR MORE.

No one would pay $100 less for a Switch 1 vs Switch 2. They would need to be examined by a doctor if they did.

TSMC is probably charging more for 16FF than in the past but not enough to get Nintendo to raise prices. This is almost certainly due to the Orange Man.

We live in wild times, 2019 was the last normal year on earth, post COVID has genuinely changed humas as a whole, in just about every way imaginable.

8 years in and we're getting a price hike.

Gonna make it even funnier when they beat PS2 after increasing the price at the end of the lifespan.

These price bumps went in to effect in Canada today and they aren't huge, $20 on the consoles, $10 on the accessories, and $5 on first party games.

lets see if the % of price increase ll be fair when comparing to the % of tariffs that the Bad Orange Man are imposing, or if its just pure greed disguised as political and economic problems.

I don't disagree, Nintendo just gonna Nintendo. I guess they haven't felt the need for a cut previously though, one would assume when the Switch 2 came out they'd at least would want to move the previous console to be rid of it but who knows. But if they didn't want to reduce the price all these years, tariffs wont change that so they move that on to the customer instead. They obviously have some sort of reasoning for all this (though I can't see it).

Jesus christ...I don't give a fuck about tariffs. This is just pure greed at this point, because they've been keeping the Switch 1 too high in price for a long time. The price should have gone down a long time ago, so even with tariffs, the price should just be balancing out what it SHOULD be.

What a fucking joke to increase the price 8 years+ after release.

They are passing on the increasing costs (due to tarrifs) to Switch 1 instead of Switch 2. Should the Switch 1 sales price have decreased by now? Sure, but when you are still selling extremely healthy what exactly is the incentive?

The only reason console prices went down in the past was to boost dwindling sales, not because Sony, Nintendo and MS cared so much about you.Get real.

consumers will still buy. I wish Nintendo would make the Switch 1 $50 more then the Switch 2 prices just to prove a point how stupid humans really are. I bet it all, it would still sell healthy numbers.

At one point in time, customers were the ones with power. It is our money they're trying to get. Now companies act entitled to our money and stupid customers are now blind consumers and give it anyway.

Lowering the price was not just some act of charity before. It was a way for companies to finally appeal to people who never wanted to buy the systems before at any 3 digit price. By lowering the price, they finally eased a hard to reach customer into making that purchase and got them to buy a bunch of software which is where the real money was.

THEN... those new customers would get into the eco system and start buying the NS2 and other products down the line and become lifetime consumers.

An absolute Gigachad move by Nintendo. They're basically saying: "Here Sony, take your stupid record — and you don't even have to dig up a warehouse full of PS2s." :messenger_winking_tongue:

if this is because of tariffs like a lot of people are blaming, then why did they also increase prices in Canada?
Sony MS and Nintendo have all done this before. They will increase prices in other territories to help subsidize costs for their other, more important markets. This allows them to still be able to keep the costs down on the product they want, in the market(s) they prioritize.

yeap, and that why a SW2 and a XSX cost way more than a base PS5 in Brazil.

If all of you donkeys would stop buying Switch 2 maybe Nintendo would have changed their MO a bit. But no, you need your Mario Kart, innit?

I'm part to blame for getting a Switch 2 I guess, but that's cuz I loved my Switch 1 for a long time. It wasn't for Nintendo games though...I felt it was some of their weakest output in a long time to be honest. The thing had tons of great Japanese games I like though, so I knew I wanted the next system...but yeah...those fucking people who like Mario Kart. I like the series fine, but only enough to play it once every 3-5 years maybe. Mario Kart World sucked also. 8 Deluxe is much better.

Don't forget Sony also increased its prices in other territories not too long ago.

I fully expect Sony to announce another round of price increases as well. If not in the NA market then in yet another territory/market. Anyone thinking Sony isn't affected by this is just fooling themselves.

However, please note that price adjustments may be necessary in the future

Variable pricing on Switch 2 incoming. I wouldn't be surprised if they increased the price over the Christmas period where the console will be in high demand.

OLED going up to $400 per Target. Switch 2 is $450. Don't be a fool. If you're looking for a switch and want to buy new, get a 2 instead of an OLED. Only switch model that makes ANY sense in terms of price is the Lite.

yeah and thats is bad too, my problem with Nintendo is that different from MS and Sony that usually sells console at loss, Nintendo do profit from the very start, they really dont need to do price increases on a 8yo console from 2 gens ( power wise ) behind. Sony and MS at least increased prices for their flag ship consoles, the most powerful game machine we have to date.

I'm glad I've already bought my Switch 2 even though I don't live in the US. If they raise the prices there then they'll probably do the same around the world over time.

They're doing this to make it a better deal to get a Switch 2 and transfer the userbase. Nintendo sees the backlash against aspects of the Switch 2 and see the Switch 1's value as a threat.
