Switch prices changing.

Nintendo - "We recognize there are some people that may not be able to afford [the Switch 2's] price point. That's why we wanted to make the other Switch platforms available, so [people] still have an opportunity to come into our gaming universe"
Also Nintendo - "We are raising the price of the Switch 1"

Looks like a $30-$50 increase for the SW1 consoles

I hope the energy Xbox caught for increasing their current gen offerings happens ten-fold with Nintendo increasing LAST GEN hardware that wasn't bleeding edge back then. If 150 million + sales isn't enough under 'current market conditions' to drop the price of the system, surely it's enough to not RAISE the price and hold the line? How much is it to make a Switch now, and with its successor on the market what's the value in even continuing to sell the thing at increased prices? The demand for Switch already scaled down the last year or so as people were ready to move onto the next thing. Who the fuck is buying a more expensive Switch in 2025 when you've had 8 years to buy it at a lower price and its successor is on the market???

You know what sucks about every thing post 2020? We went from covid being blamed for everything to now 'current market conditions' being the catchphrase for companies to raise prices, justified or otherwise. Meanwhile people are working 3 jobs to keep the lights on. This system is utterly fucked and non-essential shit just needs to stay on the shelf until 'market forces' AKA 'reduced demand' forces then back down.

This confirms the switch 2 oled will cost $500.
I'll be shocked if it's not $550. 'Market forces' is here to stay when it comes to how companies price their goods nowadays.

Even basic interactions leave much to be desired.

It's like most people have become socially retarded (or more so than before).
Covid broke alot of social contracts between how people interact with each other.

People are happy to pay for quality, that's why no one cares now.

They can afford to do this because the original Switch is still popular, which means it will continue to sell for a while, and there's no reason for Nintendo to permanently eat the extra costs resulting from the tariffs imposed by the clown in charge (let's pray that most of that nonsense will be overturned by the courts, even if far too late).

they put the price they want to test the water, consumers with fomo bite the bait and thats how we got to this place, remember when Sony announced PS3 for U$600 ? the backslash ? and that was a flag ship console, with Blu ray player, a full PS2 inside, Linux capabilities, free online and more.

Nowadays ppl seems to be fine with whatever shit companies throw at them, there is zero backslash, everyone is "Fomoing", consume, consume, consume, i must fit in mentality.

I'm glad I'm mostly past the days of FOMO consumerism, I'm an aging cynical fuck, not that it matters in the big picture. What a timeline we're in.

Yep, most all consoles at end of life had $99-$199 w/games deals. Dating back to the NES. Now they CHARGE MORE lol :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Umm, when the NES first came out it was $80 for the control deck with SMB.(It was when I bought it in mid 86) For the longest time they kept the price the same but first took out SMB and instead gave you that guide and then eventually got rid of the guide. So effectively the price of the control deck package went up so nothing new for Nintendo. (You paid the same but got less over time.)

I just seem to recall like a $99 genesis and SNES that was also bundled with games. Hell, think the genesis had the 6 pack of games even.

Paying more to play at 23fps and 540p is ridiculous. Considering how Nintendo has never even lowered the price, there's no shot they weren't making a lot on system sold, so how about making less instead of incresing the price? Shit's old af.

Gonna make it even funnier when they beat PS2 after increasing the price at the end of the lifespan.

These price bumps went in to effect in Canada today and they aren't huge, $20 on the consoles, $10 on the accessories, and $5 on first party games.
Wait, did Canada somehow implement tariffs on Japan, Taiwan, or China? The increase in Canada sounds like Nintendo deciding they can get more $Canadian out of folks.

The number of people in this topic blaming Nintendo is hilarious. It's the tariffs, dumbass. Take it up with your orange leader
the tariffs are an excuse. I've already pointed out that the price of the switch 1 was already at a point where inflation and tariffs would already account for the fact that it hasn't gone down in 8 years. Even then, it still should be cheaper.

As well as MS. They were so quick to raise the prices on Series consoles to ridiculous amounts
Series consoles at least is a current gen console, XSX is the second most powerful console on the market right now, even if i agree with you that the price increase is ridiculous, these two are totally different things, Nintendo is increasing price on a 8yo console, that belongs to PS3 era hardware ffs.

the Switch 1 OLED is more expansive than Xbox Series S 512GB, even after MS price increase, this is just retardation at its peak, there is no defense for this increase, ZERO.

😂

That can't just say "we've increased the prices of Switch 1". No.....it's "changed". Here's a link. Go figure out the rest for yourself.

Nintendo being Nintendo
