Switch successor has seemingly entered mass production already

imagine if they have a Switch Too™ reveal event next week and at the end a warp pipe extends from the ceiling and out falls miyamoto-san and he's like "...in stores now."

Excellent. I've owned/had almost every single videogame consoles starting with the magnavox odyssey 1(screen overlays for the win)and ive never loved a console more then my switch. I remember it was late at night, and I was in my local big box store, and they decided to start selling them before midnight. 4 people in line.

What a revelation being able to take full fledged games anywhere with you, not watered down, half-assed versions.

I hope no major changes are on order. Just a super powered version of the switch, please amd thank you.
 
If true then the rumor about an announcement this month might actually be sound. Because if this thing is entering mass production, it's only a matter of time before some factory worker snaps a photo or whatever and posts that shit online.

I am betting on Switch It™, Switch Up™ or Switcheroo ™.
Switcheroo ™ being my favorite.
 
I was under the impression the production has already started some time ago. There was information that one reason for the delay was, since Nintendo wanted to make sure to have enough devices on the market to avoid a similar scalping situation as with Switch. If they start now, there is now way they have enough consoles at the start to meet demand.

Since the world is now very well connected, I think it actually would be insane if a console just so happened to show up in stores. I don't think it would go how the Saturn US launch went back in the 90s.
 
So glad I use my Switch mainly docked if Switch 2 is not oled to start with. I undocked my oled switch the other day and it's so vibrant that if I was actually used to it, going back would suck
 
SNES, N64 and GameCube were must haves.

Then we got three garbage consoles with the Wii, Wii-U and Switch (skipped them all).

Now finally after 20 years there'll be another must have Nintendo console.
Although it's mostly due to outdated tech these days just being good enough.
For cartoony Nintendo graphics PS4-level hardware will definitely suffice to get 1080p/1440p at stable 60fps (no more 20fps Zelda).

Well you know to be fair, they were always "behind" with handleds. We were aupposed to get some kind of portable SNES around 95 only to get it in 2001 with the GBA. Then the DS sure was innovative but it was graphically weaker than a PS1 with a worse than SNES soundchip. The 3DS was better but just a bit better than the PSP while Sony was already sub-PS3 level with the vita.

Nintendo did the power race for 4 generations but only on home consoles.
 
I'd love to jump into the world of Nintendo again. So much stuff I haven't touched over so many decades. My last memory was playing Doom64. I might have to overcome my first world fidelity wants. DLSS sounds like it could do some magic here.

As others have pointed out, the T239 is using the Ampere architecture, which launched at the end of 2020. But more to the point, the T239 is based on the Jetson Orin NX, which launched in early 2023. So it will effectively be 2 years old at launch. The Steam Deck uses RDNA 2, also launched in 2020, and while the ROG Ally uses RDNA 3, RDNA 3 is like 5% faster at the same clocks.

We should note that the T239 has 1536 ALUs, which is double the ROG Ally's 768. Everything else is not doubled, but on the same process and TDP, we would expect it to be a good 20%-30% faster than the ROG Ally. So Nintendo's supposedly super unambitious design has the potential to beat the ultimate PC enthusiast handheld at a given TDP. Obviously this depends on Nintendo using a modern process.

(You will probably say that Nintendo would never use a modern process, but people have done the analysis and found that the large size of the T239 means it will hit the voltage floor on older processes at mobile TDPs, so in that case Nintendo would have been better off from a cost and performance perspective shipping a smaller GPU).

the Switch was their first handheld that wasn't behind the times. and the Switch 2 will be their second.
 
No way it outperforms an Ally, I doubt it outperforms a Steam Deck. If you want it to have good battery life and semi-pocketable you don't want bleeding edge performance either.

The final chip will definitely surprise you then. Custom (Tegra X1 was not) and Nvidia is all you need to know.
 
I wonder to what extent the forthcoming announcement of the ps5 pro could force Nintendo to reveal the Switch 2 fairly quickly, in order to keep potential future customers, and avoid them buying the ps5 pro and waiting for the next Switch?
 
No one knows for sure exactly what Nintendo is using to power the next-gen Switch... but I can tell you that there have been some crazy advancements lately when it comes to SOCs.

For example, the Beelink SER8 Mini PC can play Black Myth: Wukong at 1080p60 using low settings. That's pretty bonkers, considering it's running Windows 11 and is not optimized for gaming whatsoever.

We actually do know, since 2022-2023 in fact. There's also been recent custom data that pretty much confirms the board design is finalized by now, it's the T239 straight up.
