Syndicate, the old Amiga/PC game (56k? sure why not...)

Man, I remember the first time I played this game (on my old Amiga) I was so blown away it's sad. I had been reading a magazine review a couple of thousand times before I finally got hold of the game (illegaly of course, we ARE talking about the "good" old Amiga days after all) and it sure lived up to my expectations in every way. In any event I never did finish it back then, hey I was young and it was hard as hell.

Imagine my reaction when I manage to find my PC copy of Syndicate Plus (Original Syndicate + expansion pack) back from when I bought my Soundblaster 16 (1994? I can't remember). So thinking that after all this time of hardcore gaming I sure as hell should be able to beat this game I play around with DOSBox (DOS emulator) so I can run it with sound and in less than light speed. And I have to say it's still fun, hard on occasion but fun. Sure it isn't as incredible as I've made myself remember, but it still holds up imo. I still enjoy playing around with the minigun, gauss gun and flamethrower (especially the flamethrower... DIE stupid ant people DIE :lol).

Maybe one of the reasons I think it has held up is the fact that I haven't seen many similar games except Syndicate Wars, which wasn't very good (are there any others, I can't think of any). Anyway, I sure would like to see a new Syndicate game, hey one can dream...

Some screenshots, but I couldn't find any where you 'test' the flamethrower on civilians:

Is this the best company logo ever? I think so!

I would kill for a new entry in this series with the open ended gameplay of the first with the super destructive environments of Syndicate Wars.

Great game.

So many original ideas came out of the Amiga era, it was very sad when Commodore bit the dust.

On a somewhat related note, just imagine what could be done with multiplayer. Player created syndicates (like clans, just cooler) fighting for world domination over the net... could be great.

Syndicate and the original X-Com are two of my favorite games of all time. I really wish we could get some good remakes of those two games, or at least just some quality sequels.

Wow, memories. I loved Syndicate Plus. Played the hell out of it. Syndicate begs for a modern sequel, even moreso than Xcom... However, it'd end up as some retarded FPS, instead of the great team game it was.
Syndicate Wars wasn't terrible, but it sure didn't live up to its predecessor.

PC version of Syndicate was so much better than the Amiga version graphics-wise.. but the game totally kicked ass.

Anyone remember the Atlantic Accelerator? :D

And yes, X-COM 1/2 and Syndicate 1/2 are really spectacular games for their respective genres..

Daaamn, thanks for the screenshots! I remember playing the Apple version and being totally hooked on that shit. Most memorable memory was that incessant "chillican" background noise, sounded like they were trying to say "syndicate". Good memories.

I never got into Syndicate. I was expecting "Populous with guns". But, there seemed to be so many options, it was sort of overwhelming.

That's why I loved X-com. It was very easy to catch onto in the beginning.

syndicate was cool, but after a few missions it got kinda repetitive for me...

xcom is definitely one of the best games evar

Here's a couple of pictures of the Genesis version:

Can't say that I like the change in graphics...

And in spirit of the new direction this thread has taken, X-Com 1 & 2 are awesome beyond words, so I'll just post a few pictures instead.

Syndicate is one of the best games I have played. I remember the MAC version looking best thanks to higher resolution. But I played it mainly on PC.
