Nightdive Studios has delayed the consoles versions of System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster from their previously planned June 26 release date to sometime in the first two weeks of July. The PC version will still launch on June 26

We have encountered issues that have prevented us from launching System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster on consoles, including Xbox, Switch, and PlayStation, on June 26 as originally intended.

We're currently working to address these issues as quickly as possible.

Because of this, we've made the difficult decision to proceed with the game's release on PC platforms (Steam, GOG, Epic, Humble) on June 26, with the console release now targeting the first two weeks of July.

We'll update everyone as soon as we have a set launch date for consoles.

Their adding some last minute bussy into the game for consoles to please Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. Because they know PC modders will just mod bussy into the game anyway. It will be quite a shock to the system

GoG or Steam for this? Thats the real question
If something's available on both, I tend to go for GoG. True ownership, plus I like supporting all the great initiatives they have going like the one click mods and GoG game preservation program. I love Steam too but.....they don't need my help as much lol, they're gonna be just fine if my dime often goes to GoG.

GOG has two downsides when purchasing new games - some patches may not get the same priority as on Steam, also it's super easy to refund Steam games if the game is too bugged or runs like crap.

GoG has a good return policy as well but it's not automatic like Steam

shodanussy got me actin unwise
Geez freaking hell, this gave me a good laugh, holy hell. Shodanussy is the funniest one ever, don't know why I didn't think of it. It's funny as hell, they are adding some more Manyussy as well and more xerxesussy ai.

So how's System Shock 2. Is it worth playing still today or didn't it age well?

100% worth playing.

This game would shame most "modern" ones. Even System shock 1 remake showcases how far ahead this genre was compared to traditional gaming and system shock 2 is just better in every aspect imo. System shock 2 is a master class of horror and immersion.

I envy peoples who will go through this for their first time, I wish I would wipe my memory of this game and start it again like my first play-through.

Cool, thx will check it out definitely.

With Death Stranding coming out at the same day this is good news. I was first debating which one to buy and play first.

There's little monkeys that throw kamehamehas at you and you can fuck them up with a wrench all while loud drum & bass plays in the background.

So far I'm not as immersed as with the SS1 remake, but I'm just starting out. First deck is kinda tutorial heavy, a necessity since the game is a bit more complicated than SS1 with it's RPG stats and mechanics. But once that ends and you are free to explore on your own without it being super linear it gets better. If you've played Bioshock you should know what to expect here, it's just a bit more complicated than that game.

All in all I agree with the other posters when they say modern games don't hold a candle to this, since modern games are way more simplified and made easier for the sake of the player's power fantasy. Here I have already died a few times, and already got a instance where the AI was able to give me a little scare and chase me across the level. That was neat.

I just wish the game had the stealth mechanics of Thief, lol. That would make it even more tense.

Apparently text and HUD are very small on the consoles (without any options to enlarge them), anyone can verify it?

Color palette in this looks a bit more colorful / cartoony compared to part 1, IMO.

Either ways, super excited to jump into this, hopefully soon.

Original SS1 was super colorful as well, but they toned that down a lot for the remake and imo it was for the better, and same with the music.

If possible, I'd recommend disabling the bloom effect in SS2. That should make it look less cartoony.

Downloading too. Can only start playing tomorrow though. Can anyone check and confirm that it has German VA too?
It looks like there is a bug with the different language voice overs. I see different language available in the game property menu but somehow downloads don't work. Can anyone confirm this?

So I played this for an hour or so now and while it's decent technically (very clean graphics and very smooth) I can't help but to be let down how little effort they put in to make this game playable with a controller. I'm screaming for a keyboard here… it's just a pain in the ass. Where is the key binding to switch the ammo on the fly? Quicksave button binding? Come on Nightdive, you can do better than that… Also I'm a bit disappointed you can't use the controller for playback of the audiologs…

I was supposed to wait for a physical release, but I just couldn't. ;) After about 2 hours of very slow exploration I have to say it's much more friendly than the first game. I'd even say that some of the basic tutorials you have to go through are too long and unnecessary. I like the choice between 3 'careers', I've picked Navy to be a good (pathetic) hacker. Plus I'm hoping it'll make the issue of repairing weapons less annoying (going in blind, sadly I never played the OG game).

The console UI isn't great, but I'm glad there are at least selection wheels for some of the things like weapons. One thing that's definitely a bad choice is turning on leaning after pressing the left analogue stick (I've pressed it on instinct hoping there's a sprint). You may even think the game's broken, because your character suddenly stops.

I like the way they cheaped out in the tutorial. Eg. Press the button for inventory. Er ok let me go find out wtf it is, rather than telling me.

Just finished the game

Masterpiece

Had been so long since I played it, it basically felt like a first time almost, I had only vague memories of places I went and a feeling of deja vue.

Playing Deus Ex and System shock 2 back to back though, I feel like SS2 was a bit lighter on immersive sim side compared to Deus Ex that came a year later. Fact I can't brute force my way through a door removes some of the immersive sim's use every systems you have to approach a situation. But anyway, for a space horror game with the proto immersive sim genre its still in the S-tier list and a must play.

The sound design in this game, goddamn. 3D audio of enemies is still 10/10 25 years later.

Is console going to be fine for this?

I read Deus Ex on console is a no go for that PSN version they added but system shock 1 remake on console seems good to go, same for SS2?

Only thing I would fear is the loss of keyboard and mouse for this game :messenger_fearful:

Playable on consoles of course so steam deck too but I can't imagine the experience being too good?
How come? NightDive seems to know what they are doing to fit controllers into older titles.

I see a wide spectrum of opinions on the console controls on reddit

although that could be a generation of spoon fed simplistic games complaining...
