I think it basically mean that the only thing that keeps this religious group together, is that they are religious. But what they actually believe in, differs from person to person.

My epistemology teacher was a practicing unitarian (and her partner is now a minister). She described it as not believing that any one religion is correct--they studied all religions to understand things.

What Secular Humanists Believe
• Belief in Deity
Not considered important. Most Humanists are atheists or agnostics.

• Incarnations
Same as above.

• Origin of Universe and Life
The scientific method is most respected as the means for revealing the mysteries of the origins of the universe and life.

• After Death
An afterlife or spiritual existence after death is not recognized.

• Why Evil?
No concept of “evil.” Reasons for wrongdoing are explored through scientific methods, e.g. through study of sociology, psychology, criminology.

• Salvation
No concept of afterlife or spiritual liberation or salvation. Realizing ones personal potential and working for the betterment of humanity through ethical consciousness and social works are considered paramount, but from a naturalistic rather than supernatural standpoint.

• Undeserved Suffering
No spiritual reasons but rather a matter of human vulnerability to misfortune, illness, and victimization.

• Contemporary Issues
The American Humanist Association endorses elective abortion. Other contemporary views include working for equality for homosexuals, gender equality, a secular approach to divorce and remarriage, working to end poverty, promoting peace and nonviolence, and environmental protection.
I fully agree with the results from this test.

I don't know why "nontheist" is that low, it should be pretty much 100% the way I answered these questions. It's not like humanism ant atheism are mutually exclusive. Vice versa, more likely.

Well . . . although they fight with each other, they are literally related.

Mohammed rip-off tons of stuff from the old & new testament.

Christianity, Judaism and Islam = Religions from Abraham = Very alike

Abraham -> Sara(married) -> Isak(son, Father of Jews) -> Moses(son)
(after a while Christianity and Judaism split, Christians accept Jesus as the messiah, Judaism do not)

(But Abraham had another wifo too, pimp)
Abraham -> Hagar(married) -> Ismael(son, Father of arabs) ->Mohammed-> Koran -> Islam

So Abrahamns children Isak and Ismael become fathers of their own people, Jews and Arabs, just like the one God told Abraham.

Thats kind of a crude simplification but still. Islam, Christianity and Judaism are more alike then diffrent so it's no surprise the test confuses them.

So no Muhammed didn't rip off anything. They share a commmon heritage. But then again all religious texts pretty much rip off any other that was around at the time they were written.

And a large chunk of religion (including the above three) rip off Zarathustras (Zoroaster) teachings.

I don't know why "nontheist" is that low, it should be pretty much 100% the way I answered these questions. It's not like humanism ant atheism are mutually exclusive. Vice versa, more likely.

I got the same as you. The quiz seems broken in the sense you can't be considered a non-theist if you answer an ethically-targeted question anything other than N/A. :lol

And there is zero way I am anything remotely like a unitarian universalist :lol

edit: oh, hang on. last time I did the quiz there were only 4 pages. wtf?

In general we frown on necro bumps but with something like this there's no real harm, it's not misleading, everything in the thread is still valid, etc so no worries.

Was baptised and confirmed a Catholic. Went to a Catholic primary and high school. They really need to work on their retention rate for my generation (late 80s, early 90s).

Anyhow, a pretty bad quiz. The only way to get 100% non-theism is to answer "N/A" on all the questions pertaining to morality.

... why is that bad? If you demonstrate an ethical code consistent with Secular Humanism (let's say broadly progressive on social issues, belief in re-distributive justice, belief in human betterment through intellectual development and works for others), you should be ranked as a Secular Humanist before a Non-theist.

Non-theism is simply a statement about your affirmation/denial of God, not a statement about your moral code. There are many religions, philosophies, and associations that better represent a particular secular moral code.
