Hi, guys! I've been thinking for the past few weeks of getting a welsh red dragon tattooed (my family originally came from Wales, been there many times and I just love it). The thing is, the dragon from the flag it's not really that pretty to get it tattooed. I like this design, from Cardiff University, but it includes a shamrock (and I haven't even been to Ireland, so it's out of the question).

Do you have any idea how I could modify it to have something either English, Scottish or Italian instead of it? I just can't figure anything out, and I suck at designing.

Thanks!

And the award for the most annoying piercing goes to the tongue web, a month and a half was all I could take. I still absolutely love my septum though, planning to add lip + 10g lobes to the collection at years end.

Here ya go, GAF.

That's pretty cool. You should find a tattooist whose art style you really like and ask them to work with you to modify it, they will then tattoo it on you. It's part of the job, for tattooists. PLUS you know they'll be able to do it and it'll look good.

My favorite Vonnegut quote! Well done.

Wow a Prince albert!

I wish my helix piercings would heal already. I want to change the rings the piercer put in.

It took my tragus six months to heal completely, because my cartilage is so thick. When she was piercing them, she called in the other piercer and an understudy so they could watch. That was over a decade ago and I'm ready to get another modification. I don't know if it will be a conifer tree tattoo on my forearm or the p.a. first though.

I just got back from vacation, so sorry for the late reply. Glad you updated the thread with your experience. :)
No worries; thanks for the tips in the first place. ;)

Pretty much healed now; I actually didn't get any scabbing at all (my tattooist said this may happen, or be very little, as dot work is generally less traumatic on the skin - no scraping). I just has some light flaking and dryness of skin for a few days (applied very small amounts of cocoa butter) but other than that it's healed really fast.

That's good! Usually if you get a LOT of scabbing it's a sign you had a poor tattooist and they inked too deep (usually leading to scarring on the tattoo). Glad you've healed :)

Decided to get a rather large piece done on my arm, spent about 5 hours in the chair today. I'm definitely hooked an already thinking about what else I want.

I was going to post pictures, but since it isn't finished I think I'd rather hold off.

Next appointment is Oct 17th though, can't wait.

I'm thinking about getting another piece from the realism guy I got my first tattoo from (it's on the last page). He's only here for a few months, and I know I want my right arm to be all space stuff, and I'm thinking about getting a reaper blowing a laser at a planet which is exploding. I want the reaper on my forearm, and the exploding planet I was thinking either on the elbow or more on the inner elbow. Is getting something really detailed on the inner elbow a bad idea for any reason?

I imagine the exploding planet would look better on my elbow, but getting something really detailed there worries me....I don't know how bad the area I got tattooed is considered but it's on the last page. I was fine with the pain, but idk if the elbow would be significantly worse...and I hear it takes a lot longer bc of the skin?

so yeah, reaper closer to my wrist, and exploding planet either on the elbow or inner elbow. Any advice gaf? I also think I want an x wing sort of flying away with a rebel fighter chasing it but that's inconsequential, i'd probably just do that on the opposite side of the arm of the planet / reaper probably. I thought about getting the death star exploding instead of a planet but again, idk about going with a lot of outlines and details on the elbow..plus it would have to be bigger to be a death star if i really wanted it detailed, an exploding planet really can be any size since it's not iconic. I thought about the death egg too but had the same concern. I def like this space idea though so I'll be happy with whatever I decide to go through.

Also I want it on the lower arm because I eventually want ridley from super metroid on my upper atm with his face pointing toward my breast, and possibly a metroid on the other side of my bicep. The rest just either generic space stuff somebody comes up with or perhaps more scifi references, I can't think of any other elements that would reference things and fit well with that theme though. I'm not a trekkie so I don't want the enterprise or anything like that. just need to find more good reference shots to give the guy ideas when I fill in the empty space later.

OK, tomorrow I'll call a famous tattoo artist from around here, I want to completely cover my arm. It will probably take a year or something like that.

Anyone have a good amount of chest hair and have a chest tattoo? I'm pretty hairy, but I want to get a big tattoo on my chest. Wondering if it's worth it, being hairy. I would go for bright colors to make it stand out.

I'm not like Robin Williams hairy but it's more than just fuzz.

Had my first tattoo done last week. It's only a fairly simple piece on the upper arm but I really like it.

Also, I absolutely loved having it done. I'm my own worst enemy with fear factor but I expected it to hurt at least a little bit. Right from the off I was thinking how much it didn't hurt, and infact how much I was enjoying it. It actually started to feel therepeutic. Can definitely see how people end up addicted to that feeling.

That said I know the upper arm is meant to be the easiest place, or one of, to get them done. How much does the "pain" compare on the inner forearm? I want something done there.

Also; the nappy rash lotion someone mentioned above is called Bepanthen. My artist said it was the only stuff they recommend and I've seen it mentioned plenty across various Google searches.

God, this thread makes me want a tattoo even more, gotta wait 'til I hit 18 though.
Stretching my septum up to a 10g this week though, hoping to add a lip piercing and/or lobes to that soon.

mine's the Navi one, over my left collar bone, Lucian Cat got Tael. I like OOT more, she's a Majora fan, so it works fine :)

Both are all kinds of new and bright and swollen on the pic, shot was taken when they were new from about 2 weeks ago. They pop less and look more natural these days.

Anyone ever use segmented earrings? I usually get acrylic any downside to them vs stainless steel?

Very old quote but acrylic should be a no-no, especially if you're stretching. Under the warmth of your body it'll release lots of nasties. High quality steel, titanium or niobium are great.

Stretched my septum to a 10g today, nothing out of this world painful but it sure did hurt some. Internally threaded 10g 1/2" steel CBB. :D

I've had a libre/ring in my lip since I was 18. I'm waaaay older and I think I can keep pulling it off until I get grey hairs....right?

Really? I've been wearing acrylic earrings for years and didn't know...=/

It should be good for (very) temporary wear, but it's definitely not good for long term use. PTFE is a good alternative but only if it's uncolored from what I've read (it's naturally white). You could get some glass pieces that are brightly colored if that's what you like about acrylic.

I usually just wear black. The old metal black earings I use to wear it would come off after awhile. Those cheap Hot topic ones.

How do you folks go about getting designs done?

I want an Owl tattoo'd on my lower forearm. Been looking around for some designs, and I've found a couple that I really want, but they're all images of existing tattoo's rather than flat images to copy.

The last (well, my first) piece I had done was an actual drawing so it was easy for them to print it out and apply it to draw on. I'm assuming they can't just do that with a photo of another tattoo? I'd prefer to take them another drawing in for my next one if possible.

how much were your tattos

If you worry that much about how much a tattoo will cost, don't get a tattoo. Please.

If you go to a decent studio, It won't be done with 50 bucks. Not even close.

Good tattoo's aren't cheap, cheap tattoo's aren't good.

All the tattooists I've spoke to charge roughly £60-£70 per hour. The one I use charges £60, but I picked them based on the studio and the artists themselves rather the cost.

The first 2 I got where on my inner forearm, they didn't hurt that badly at all. Just got my third on my upper arm and can't say it was any less painful. There is a bit of bone to deal with on your inner arm so you might feel it a touch more, but I couldn't tell much difference.

Just go in and have a chat, maybe take a rough drawing in for a starting point and explain to them what you want. The place I go to has an apprentice guy who draws out designs and the artists are all great drawers as well. It might take a bit longer but if you're going to a good studio they'll do a great job.

Cheers mate.

I actually went in on Friday and walked out with an appointment to get my second one done after doing pretty much what you've just said. I did a couple of (very) rough sketches and talked it through with them and they were happy to do it.

Because I'm so bad at drawing and creative things in general I think I just underestimate the whole tattoo process in general, heh. Anything more than a straight "trace" from a flat image sort of blows my mind a bit. But the studio and the guys who work there are great, which is why I'm going back I guess.

Blimey that's cheap, you're not in London are you. My tattooist is normally £100 an hour, but he charges me £50 because he's a mate and does it in his flat.

Had my apadravya done last night, the intensity is hard to describe, I can only guess it was akin to being shot in the dick. Quickly settled down and now feels pretty good, no real blood coming from it and all it needs now is a slightly longer bar and I'm all set.

But that initial pain... Damn, had the best part of 20 piercings including a PA and none of them were close. Far more comfortable after an hour then I expected it to be.

Haven't been in here for a while, but wicked cover up.

Thanks, I have been happy with it. Alot of people stop me and say they like it when I'm wearing cut offs.

The best part was the text I got from my ex when she saw it.

Question for people who have had colored tattoos for several years. How have the colors held up over time in detailed pieces?

There are some pieces that I want done which would involve a lot of color. My worry is how those will look years down the line. I imagine they aren't as vibrant after some time. But can they easily look as good as when they were new if you get them touched up? Also, how often do people get colored pieces touched up?

Sorry for all the questions, but all my tattoos have only been in black ink so far so I'm not really familiar with colored tattoos.
