So I'm gonna get this going down on my left forearm pretty soon.

Any ideas to make it better?

I've got a couple ideas I've been thinking about. I want to get 3 solid bands on my right forearm right below the elbow. I want some pastel/lighter colors...just not sure how good that would look or hold up.

Just got it done.

I've always really liked basic geometric shapes, so I got in contact with an artist whose style incorporates geometric designs. It's basic, but I'm gonna have it filled in at some point in the future. I'm thinking of a gradient from complete filling to just line work.

So I'm trying to plan out a sleeve and I'm working on a design, is there anything I need to keep in mind when planning this thing out? Any tip or advice would be great.

Going to Portland, OR in 2½ weeks, thinking of getting a tattoo there to commemorate the trip (Duckula probably).
Where is the best tattoo artist in PDX?

I got my nipples pierced a few months back and I fuckin love them (I'm a guy). Been contemplating something for my first tattoo lately too but I'm not sure what. My issue is that there are so many things I want that I'm not sure what to go with.

To anyone who gets a Henna tattoo and it messes up or smears: Don't use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to remove it. It will remove it, absolutely, however the 2nd degree skin abrasion you'll be left with afterwards hurts like hell.

Anyone got any tips on nose jewellery?

I got my nose (nostril) pierced maybe 7 weeks ago and I'd like to change it over. It's a stud which has a hook too big for my nose that I sometimes need to push back up into my nostril :/

Any tips on changing it? If I've got a stud piercing can I change it over for a ring easily?

never had my nostrils pierced, only my septum but changing jewelry was easy and painless provided you have the correct size (the thickness of the gauge and the distance between the jewelry and the skin)

you should just ask the piercer. they can modify the jewelry to make it fit your nose.

God bless all my old friends/And god bless me too, why pretend?
I want a tattoo so damn bad, been thinking about it forever now. But I just can not commit to anything. I am so bad with choices, it's something I've always struggled with. Ugg

Also placement. Placement is a hard decision since I am hairy. Bleh

Switch Back 9

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
Any advice for me since I might do my first tatoo soon?

Take your time to craft and commit to something big and awesome. Getting some tiny cheesy tattoo will only make you regret not getting something more worth it.

OK so about 7 weeks ago I got my ears pierced with 12g glass clear plugs.

I was told not to touch them for a few months (other than a monthly clean) and use regular salt baths.

I stupidly bought some black 12g tapers after two weeks after the piercing and used them for a few days, then took them off. Since then I've had the 12g glass plugs on.

Now, I am a teacher moving to a new school next week and really want to hide my piercing. I don't think it is against the dress code but just in case really want to make a good impression. If I could, I would take the plugs off during work, but I've read taking them off even for a few hours is not good.

The other option I see is using hider plugs, but the smallest size available is 10g. I've ready you need to wait at least 3 months before moving up to a size.

Would it be too damaging to move up to 10g after 2 months of 12g?

I'm working on designing a tattoo right now, I want this one on my right upper arm.
Do not know if I want it to go around the bicep completely or just to sort of cover the arm. Do you guys have suggestions of more stuff or other stuff to do with it?
What is set in stone though, is that I want hexagons and something with cyan color. The hard thing is that I want it more intricate, but I cant draw so I don't know what to do to make it "more".
It's

, for anyone that can't figure out the pattern :p

12 weeks is the recommended time to wait between changing up a size, but everyone heals at different speeds. If your ears are fully healed then it may be possible to change up sooner but the risk is yours. I waited 12 weeks sometimes more between each change just to be sure, I've had friends who've had issues with splitting and didn't want to risk it.

I wouldn't recommend leaving them out for any length of time as they can start to close almost straight away. 12g is 2mm right? I doubt they are that noticeable at that size, but if you're worried about work prospects then the best advice is just don't get them done. I'm lucky in that even though I work in a corporate environment and have to cover my tattoos, no one seems to care about my 10mm tunnels. They were clear to see in my interview and not even mentioned.

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a tattoo for a while now. My tentative plan is to start with something relatively small and eventually work up to a sleeve/half sleeve assuming I don't turn into a giant baby while getting the first one.

There are a few shops close to where I live that I want to check out, but I don't know what to look for specifically, beyond just flipping through the artists' portfolios. What specific things should I look for (good and bad) in an artist or shop?

Never noticed this thread before I don't think... here's a couple of mine (all done by a friend, Wes Pratt @ New Tribe in Toronto)

That's fresh, obviously, so it's pretty bloody in some of the shading. Also you can't see the back side which has a skull where the rose is and a dead tree where the oak leaves or whatever are.

This is my favorite tattoo. Also fresh in the pic. It's on the outside of my right calf.

Really the best way is to look through their books. In my experience, the good artists tend to lean towards a certain style, but that's also not to say that someone who does mostly Japanese style is incapable of doing traditional American style stuff. I'd check reviews online of the shops as well. When you find someone who has work you like, sit down with them and describe what you want using some examples from his existing work.

Thanks for the advice. They are tiny but noticeable enough. I think my right ear is pretty healed as I can move the plug seamlessly, but my left ear still has trouble and is sometimes a little sore (although that usually happens after I move a lot during my sleep and my ears get squished often).

Ugh I think I'm gonna have to buy a 10g kit and force in the hider plug when it comes in. I know it's a bad idea but after two months with these 12g I don't want to take them off and start over. I really wish they sold 12g size hiders.

There's some really cool artwork in here. Thank you all for sharing. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute to this thread oneday with something.

Hmm I have two myself. My dogs paw print on my calf that I got shortly after he past away. Reminds me that he's always walking with me. And a tribal maple leaf that I got when I was younger. Kind of a neat design as it's hard to distinguish from close up but the farther away I get the more you can see the maple leaf. (I'm Canadian obviously)

Planning to get a half sleeve that encroaches onto my chest when I have extra money. It'll be of a pauldron (shoulder/upper arm armor). My dad past away when I was younger and I always used his memory as my armor of sorts against "bad influences", drugs, doing stupid shit, etc. Example being that when he had cancer he was offered medicinal marijuana for the pain. He refused it saying that he didn't want to be a bad influence on his kids. So I always said that I didn't need to smoke because my dad didn't. I can't wait to get it done but I'm super nervous about it because it seems difficult with the design having flat, smooth metal in it. Hopefully it turns out well!

That is AWESOME. I've been wanting a quarter to half Metroid sleeve as well. How did you pick out the design?

i just really like my artist's style and i got a custom ridley on the outside of the arm, then i pretty much told him i wanted a metroid on the inside and to continue the space theme. i'd like to expand on it but i'm unsure of what to add. i thought about a pinup style zero suit samus on my chest shooting at it, but my artist (while awesome)'s style really wouldn't give me the look i want for that, so idk what else i can add without it looking corny. i want to extend it to my forearm, maybe the pixels fading into something, but i'm unsure of a good idea to extend it. i'm not necessarily set on it all being metroid, i'm open to other scifi/gaming etc suggestions if anyone has any. i miiiiiight get a reaper from ME shooting at an exploding planet on my elbow, idk if that's a good idea or not yet though

but yeah i just found a custom new school artist in my area whos work i absolutely love so i love taking things to him and giving him free reign to give his own spin on them, really all i've constrained him with is space theme, ridley, metroid, and i know i'll love whatever he comes up with and i have for sure so far! i try to go to bomb ass artists like that and give them as much freedom as possible, hell my left arm is literally a complete out of the head freehand of a dark souls inspired beast and it's coming along awesomely as well

So I'm thinking of getting my first tattoo. I want an angel on my arm or shoulder. I was thinking something like this one with more shading, more realistic and with her wing spread on half of my chest.

An artist I saw though told me it was a complicated procedure and that it was gonna cost at least $400.

I was also thinking this one but don't know how good it would look on my arm. Looks like it might be more of a rib cage kinda thing. It's pretty though.

Finally, I was thinking maybe something smaller and just on my shoulder would be better. Similar to this but a different pose and art style.

Either way, I'm sure I'll like them all. I have it all in my head but it's just kinda hard to explain. I wish I could just draw it.

God bless all my old friends/And god bless me too, why pretend?
Friends please help.

Where the heck does one get a tattoo if they are hairy? And I would want it somewhere I could see it, so back/butt/neck is off limits.

Or should I not think of the hair? But that would mess things up right? Bleh

To the person above me, right on with the angels. I love angels, I want one myself.

I think I finally settled on what I want for my first tattoo. It's a small-ish black outline so I'm hoping it'll be a nice first experience.

Since I've never had a tattoo before, maybe someone could give me some insight to how this works. I'm just curious about how artists go about copying an outside (as in, not custom) piece onto your body. The piece I want is just a line tracing so it's already in its final form exactly how I want it on my body.

Three piercings in each ear: two in the lobe then asymmetrical third in the top. I think I'm done with piercings, but I like the ones I have. Had been planning on getting the eye of the crimson king tattooed on my back, but saw that apparently a lot of people went through with that first. Might still do it since it seems a lot of them are using the design from the comics and not the book.

Starting to feel the itch for a new piercing but I honestly can't think of anywhere left to stab! A hafadah may be on the list but I'm not 100% sold yet.

3 of my favorites (that I have pics of) - Also have a Dragon Ouroboros, Demon and tribal dragon (I like dragons ok).

Cthulhu - Right Shoulder - Cover Up - Want Lovecraft sleeve, big ol' daddy up top of course.

Dragon Koi - Right Calf - Cover Up - Cheap Tattoo tbh. But it has kept its color nicely.

Anubis: Weighing of the Heart Ceremony - Left Calf - Memorial - Lost my 17 y/o son in a car accident. Those are his initials in the heart.
Meaning of Weighing of heart (TL:DR version). Anubis weighs the heart for sin, if it weight more than an ostrich feather your heart is eaten by a beast and you suffer in hell.
If it weighs the same then you've not sinned and you go to heaven. The scales are held at an angle but it shows the heart with my sons initials in it weighs the same as the feather and will go to heaven.

Thinking of getting my septum pierced. Is 32 too old for a first piercing? Heh.
No way. Septums are a great first piercing too. By far the least painful piecing I've had and healed by far the fastest. I'd highly recommend it. It's also one of my favorite piercings I have.

I concur, I got my septum done a few months ago, it was my 10th piercing and definitely the least painful. It's easy to hide in work and looks cute, do it!
