104 or 5 (tf2wiki says 105, but I've never seen anything more than 104) for the scatter gun, slightly less for the FAN, is the max for a point blank shot.
That's weird, especially since I thought someone just quoted a Valve interview where they were talking about how they wanted the FAN to have a higher damage spike than the regular scattergun.

It does if you get both shots on someone. But the Scattergun has better overall damage potential.

Hot dog! We just had the most amazing last point of dustbowl defense ever! After getting rolled on the first 2 levels we held the last point for 23 or 24 minutes. It got a little boring D:

That's almost as good as Pet declining to capture the last George point since it would make it "too easy" and reduce the drama, and then us losing badly and getting cut off like 4 minutes early by the fake time limit team loss map change, some 6+ minutes later. :lol

For ten minutes, I had half their team chasing me around their own spawn point. Queso was going nuts. :lol

An update might be incoming. The Updates page for TF2 on Steam is acting weird.

Edit: Nevermind, it's probably just Steam servers. The L4D2 page has the same issue, and people are complaining about not being able to sync with the Cloud.

I've seen 190 for one shot, no crits several times.

I'll have to pull tapes...

omg, I forgot how fun arena is :lol

It would be nice if Arena would catch on with the GAF server. Door Man is God is the only other server I play on outside of GAF and F7, strictly for good ol' Arena time.

The amount of rage from the usual CP/PL players would be epic.

Door man is god have some pretty cool servers...but they do that stupid trick where it shows people playing on the server in the server list even if its empty...so I blacklisted their servers.

Shotguns explained:

All shotguns in the game do a base of 60 damage. It can go up to 90 though with the help of that damage boost you get in close combat. 150% is the regular limit, but the Scout's shotgun is special. Since it's sawed off, the damage boost can go all the way up to 175% (or some number around there) at close range, also known as meatshot range. That's what makes it go up to 105.

If you've ever seen 180, it was probably a crit that didn't properly show (60 x3 = 180).

Also, don't forget that shotguns are programmed by pellets. It's the 10 different pellets all doing 6 damage that gets the regular 60 damage total, so if pellets miss, you do less than that.

Arena is a lot of fun. I generally play on the source op arena server.

Nice shotgun write up. The FaN is a little different. It has 12 bullets and each one does 5.4 base.

I wonder if we're gonna get a video along with this, like the Half-Life 2 mac video.
Would be great.

So this is cross-platform? Can we (the PC gamers) humiliate the mac-gamers now? Do the mac gamers' playermodels have ipod earbuds?

Did anyone think for a moment that Valve could just spring the Engineer update on us tomorrow with the inclusion of Mac TF2?

Just throwing that out there.

No. They will not release episode 3 this year, nor announce anything about it at E3, nor release Portal 2 this year. In a month or two or a year they might do a week of engineer updates.

This may not be certain, but it's certainly not unlikely. :p

And oh shit TF2 event on GAF server?

I like how Cashworks and Gorge can make TF2 in windowed mode get 25 fps or less sometimes, on a 1GB 5850. :( I guess not doing dual-core rendering holds it back, but I'd rather keep the other core free (e8400 3.0 GHz) and the temperature down.

I also like how despite everyone saying superfetch frees up instantly if applications need it on Vista, I can use 85% of 4GB of memory running three web browser windows (one IE, two firefox with tabs), TF2, a text editor, and a chat client. There are a couple other minor windows but still. And then if I'm nearly full I'm pretty SURE that there's actually a palpable delay while it frees up some memory for me to use, instead of the instant claims I thought people were tossing about.

Maybe I'm just being silly, but I thought Windows 7 used less than this, so hopefully my memories of the RC aren't rose-tinted when I install home premium and stop using Vista again.

I really think your FPS problems are CPU related. I never drop below 60 at a windowed 1920x1080 with all settings at max (I'm fairly certain I don't) on any map and I have a 5770. I am running a Q6600 at 3.6 with multicore rendering enabled.

The cores are next to each other anyway.
Why do you do this to yourself.
Also why is your CPU not overclocked?

Because I always heard people say that TF2 and L4D/L4D2 crash a lot with multicore rendering, and I like being able to do other stuff with a responsive computer. ;_;

Or at least, in the L4D games some people crashed all the time, and I assumed it might be multicore related. And I don't want to overclock because I'm lazy and overcautious. My e8400 already gets up to 52C sometimes at max, like 34-36C idle.

And the TF2 options even say that multicore rendering disabled is recommended for my mcahine! :lol

That's part of the reason I don't like it. My video card and CPU end up with about the same temperature? :/

Also, it makes things slow and unresponsive-ish, seems to potentially make alt-tabbing in windowed TF2 messed up, and the first time I ran speedfan the window wouldn't even come up. MULTICORE IS KILLING MY COMPUTER :lol

*edit* On the plus side, despite apparently not getting a huntsman or dead ringer in the last month or two so I still haven't crafted my shiv, I got enough items to craft another pyro hat!

So basically crits that don't:

1) Show in the blast
2) Play the sound
3) Register on the kill notice

I'm not complaining, just calling em like I see em.
