"Ted...Strange things are afoot at the Circle-K"

Haha perfect quote for the OT.
Love this movie so much.

"You remember when your mom was a senior and we were freshman"

God bless the 80's and 90's I have no idea how this movie got green lit but thank goodness it did.

"Do you remember when I asked her to the prom?"

I think the most surprising thing I noticed rewatching it last year was that Bill and Ted aren't actually all that dumb. They're not really stupid, they're just uninterested. They know who Napoleon is and that he's related to something called "Waterloo", they know Socrates is spelled differently than it's pronounced, they know at least rudimentary information about most of the historical figures judging by their presentation, and Bill knows what an Oedipal complex is. They just don't care about history all that much, and are focused on music, even if they don't quite know how to get off the ground there, either.

I think Bill and Ted endure because they're not idiots or assholes like they would be if created today. Notice that they're unfailingly polite to just about everyone they meet, and extremely sensitive to how others want to be seen or treated (despite how silly it is that Missy wants to be called "mom" by someone three years younger than her, Bill does try to remember to do it because he knows it's important to her), which is actually just them living their own philosophy of "Be excellent to each other." They aren't jerks to the history teacher who keeps them after class, either, not even behind his back. The only time either of them gets legitimately angry at anyone is when Bill thinks the "Medieval dickweed" has killed Ted. They're ignorant-but-not-stupid slackers who are at heart genuinely kind people, and that wins us over to their side instantly. The sequel forgets this a bit, and doesn't seem to like them very much on top of that, but I'm hoping the much-talked-about third film will bring things back around.

This is a most triumphant write up

"Do you remember when I asked her to the prom?"

"Shut up Ted!"
Keanu's grin after Bill gets so mad is priceless

Nintendo Power ran a contest to give away the/a phone booth from this movie.
I wanted to win it so badly.

I remember later they had a small article on the person who had won it, and how he ended up taking out his window so it could be lifted into his room.
I totally would have done the same thing.

Sometimes the universe maneuvers things just the way they should be.

I highly doubt you watched it 1 million times. With a runtime of 91 minutes, it would take you 173 years..

Why the lie?

I know you've already been quoted like 17 times for this, but I agree 100%. I hope you personally know the producer or director of the third film, so you can make these points directly to him/her. They might be able to capture the magic of the first two if they used the basics from your post to guide them.

You do not age while watching Bill and Ted. After watching one or both films a million times Rufus shows up in a most excellent time machine and returns you to a year of your choosing.

Let's see your doctoral dissertation disproving the existence of Atlantis.

Ah, you ain't got one?.. Thought so.

How can I do that before seeing yours first as part of a review of literature? :þ

Also, I dropped out of my PhD program before starting on my dissertation =(

Man, rewatching because of this thread. "Father Time" is such a great jamming tune as the phone booth is being created in the future.

Saw this movie for the first time a few months back, and it instantly became one of my favorite comedy movies of all time. Smart, funny writing and perfect casting. I've heard bad things about the sequel but this thread has me in the mood to watch it.

I loved the sequel. Both are great movies that hold up incredibly well. Ending sequence of bogus journey is epic, I think about it whenever I hear the song.

Remember the cartoon?

Remember how movies would always get cartoons?

Robocop got a cartoon.

Fucking Robocop.

Back to the Future also got a cartoon.

And do you remember the Bill and Ted TV series on FOX? I remember one of the episodes was about quiche, which was the first time I learned of that food.

I literally live down the street from that circle k. I'll take a pic when I get a chance.

When I was in college I went to that circle k and got photos out side. I will admit I went inside and asked if they knew when mongols ruled China. The lady working smirked, it made my day.

Both Bill & Ted movies were amazingly funny. I always wanted another till George Carlin died. It just wouldn't be the same without Rufus.

I love this movie and still hope they make a part 3 even without Carlin. The ending to Bogus Journey still comes up in my head whenever I hear the song, followed by a smile.

I had never seen either movie until about two months ago and you hit the nail on the head EXACTLY with why I liked them so much. Bill and Ted are WONDERFUL characters, and I remember saying "I wish I had a friendship like they do" to my friends about it. They are so excellent, no pun intended, just genuinely nice good pleasant happy guys.

If anyone is interested they're making a mini series for Boom! comics:

loved this movie. Essentially an american homage to dr who, but completely its own thing. Some great music too.

HOLY SHIT you're right. YESSSSSS AMAZING.

Bogus Journey, once they join up with Death (played wonderfully by William Sadler and who basically steals the show) it's the equal of the first film. Before that I'd agree with Mr. Keil that it's a bit mean with the characters and loses that goofy but good hearted charm.

Still, Sadler's Grim Reaper is just about perfect.

Both Bill & Ted movies are among my Top 5 favorite films of all time.
They are awesome, capture the 80's and early 90's pop culture perfectly and parody everything about it at the same time.
It's also nice to see Keanu Reeves smile for almost all of the movie.

The (excellent btw) German dub even brought some new vocabulary into the German language at the time like "Hoschi" ("dude"), "granatenstark" ("excellent") or "Volle Kanne!" ("Station!")

This movie also made me appreciate water slides.
