Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge Reveal trailer

I saw this earlier. I have mixed feelings. I don't like the art style, but I really like the call back to 2D Turtles beat 'em ups games. The pixel art looks bad to me.
half baked boo GIF

First i was disappointed because the animated intro doesn't look as good as the old 90's intro but then, then i was surprised by good animations in game, even if pixelated.
Definitely looking forwards to playing it.

I like the classic Turtles in Time aesthetic though I prefer the 1989 arcade cabinet version. The turtles were larger in the arcade version than on the eventual NES release. Still, this takes me back. I pick it up if its $30 or less.

Art adequate, movement looks slow and SFX sound wierd. Still cool. Benefit of the doubts atm!

Maybe I've grown too cynical...

And yes fucking pixels baby

  • The theme song is busted.
  • The pixel graphics look as bad as the 1989 Arcade game (which I still love, but even I have to admit that it isn't visually appealing anymore; When I tried to make my daughter play it with me, she said it was so blurry that it hurt her eyes. :(
  • After playing MMPR: Mega Battle nonstop [what a fantastic game, btw, I should make a thread to discuss it], I am definitely excited for another beat em up
  • I have never heard of this Dotemu studio
  • Having said all that, Day 1, sign me up.

As long as they dont try to jazz things up the game should be good. And yeah aside from the intro the game itself looks great and a major improvement over SoR4 visually.

Gameplay is awful along with pixel art artstyle. After Streets of Rage 4 I just want more and especially from TMNT game.

I mean you get like 5 seconds or gameplay to see lol
And it was enough for me to tell that it's just not what I want from TMNT game. It's just a bog-standard 2D pixel art beat' em up and I wish it looked as good as Streets of Rage 4 and played like TMNT III: The Manhattan Project or Turtles in Time. Look at the key art, don't you wish the game looked like that? It's totally doable, it's just it'll take more time and effort.

The less proportionate character designs give everything a cutesy look that isn't working for me. The visual choices are probably due to the developer, Tribute Games, but cynicism has me thinking the graphics are more the result of needing to make some overture to Nickelodeon's audience.

Also worth keeping in mind, the primary developers on Streets of Rage 4 were Lizard Cube and Guard Crush. Dotemu was involved, of course, but at this point, best not to put too much weight on the SoR4 mention.

Is that a new tune at the end? Even more hype if so 'cause that means they'll even be doing the soundtrack in the same style as the original Turtles in Time.

So fucking good!

Art style is a little bit different but still good. I would have preferred an HD style more faithful to the cartoon, but probably it was more expensive in this way.

lol this is pretty funny. Mike Mataei (from Angry videogame nerd) was streaming Streets of rage 4 the other day, and he was talking about wanting an new Turtles in Time, and how it would probably never happen because of licenses.
And here we are lol.

That is precisely what went wrong the last time they literally tried to make a new Turtles in Time. Re:Shelled was just a disaster from start to finish. They would have been much better served to have just made a new game based off of the old design featuring a few familiar settings.

Another consideration is that games like Turtles in Time absolutely nailed the sound track. It's absolutely critical for any new TMNT game to hit that nostalgia.

I was hoping Lizardcube and Guardcrush were the devs again but, it looks like it's Tribute Games this time. The only game I know from them is Panzer Paladin and that wasn't great.

I love a cool unexpected announcement, will be keeping an eye on this. I hope Capcom bring Final Fight back at some point too!

Yesterday Pocky and Rocky and now a 2D beat em up brawler with Turtles. It's like the good old days. Love these nostalgic throwbacks as of late. Can we get a new Guardian Heroes as well?

SoR4 was in my top 3 for games released last year so I'm really stoked for this. Dotemu did a great job with SoR so there's no doubt in my mind they'll knock this one out of the park. Gimme that release date
