Tekken 7 - Offscreen videos

True that, Lone Dragon.
If only these drive-by shitposters would consider putting in a bit more thought and a few more words to get their point across, if they have one.
I wholeheartedly agree with you, though. Art direction has pretty much been stagnant since 5.
Maybe Harada's trying to play it safe after TK4.
Maybe the more/most creative talent isn't with Namco anymore (Looking at the new character designs here as well).

I like what I'm seeing in TK7 so far. Had this received a huge change and major overhaul, I would not have complained, though.
Tekken's change in art direction with TK4 was the absolute best thing about that game.

gonna miss Baek... I have the worst luck when it comes to favorite fighting game characters.

Baek is the only reason I'm trying to learn tekken right now. He reminds me too much of my grandpa...dude's prob going to get cut.

The animations are one of the problems I have with Tekken. They're not bad at all, but it's obvious that they have gotten better at animating. It's extremely apparent with some of the newer characters, and especially some of the new moves on old characters. It doesn't seem consistent to me at all. I can almost pinpoint new moves just because of how they look even if I'm not familiar with a character.

Ein has been in every DoA since his first appearance?

I didn't have any xbox console, so after doa 2 the only other doa I played was doa 5... which he was absent. He got released in doa 5 U... but I wasn't gonna shell a full game price for a single character.

I understand how it works.

Unlike sprites, when you update a model, you don't necessarily have to update the ANIMATION.

However, when you make new sprites, you HAVE to make new ANIMATION, since in 2D they are both one and the same.

In 3D, they models and animation are separate.

So, the amount of work going from SF2 Ryu to SF3 Ryu is WAAAAAY higher than the work of going from T3 Paul to T4 Paul, because even with brand new models, most of Paul's animation keyframes can be ported directly from one game to the next.

So do you think now that Street Fighter uses 3D models, you won't see SFIV animations being recycled for the next 10+ years? Because that's what's going to happen. And really, there's nothing wrong with that.

There are a few animations in Tekken that need work, of course. But re-doing every animation in the game is just change for the sake of change. And a waste of resources.

Thank you

I don't think you understand how 3D modeling works. Just like SF updated its sprites, Tekken updates its character models with higher polygon counts and improved textures in every sequel.

Harada wants each character to have their own iconic look look that never changes. Literally EVERY other fighting game in existence does the same thing.

Hayabusa in DOA 2

Hayabusa in DOA 5 (13 years later)

Not to take away from your point or anything. But Ryu only started wearing that black outfit in Ninja Gaiden, which was 2004. Furthermore, your first scan is not from DOA2 at all, that one is from DOA Dimensions which was only a few years ago.

In DOA2, he didn't wear the mask or have the outfit, it was only when they started getting serious about mixing the Ninja Gaiden and Dead Or Alive IP's after NG1 that he started wearing that in DOA. The first time he wore that was DOA4.

DOA regularly changes characters costumes. Ayane started off wearing that purple skirt thing in DOA2, then in DOA3 she wore black Ninja garb, then in DOA4 she wore a purple ninja outfit, then in DOA5 she wore black ninja armor with purple highlights. Even if you want to say kasumi's iconic outfit has stayed around since the beginning, her new outfit from DOA5 is fully black ninja armor with blue highlights on it and a new hairstyle.

Of course they had to change her up this time, since its been so long.

*edit* i'll repost it.

Ofcourse this will happen. It's one of the great benefits of 3D fighters.
Since we're talking about Capcom, we will most probably see 3D assets being reused as well.

I remember he had that outfit in DOA 2 Ultimate on the original Xbox. I just assumed it was the same in the Dreamcast/PS2 version.

Kasumi is probably a better example.

Nah it was totally different. DOA2 ultimate was after NG1, so that one was actually the first one with the black armor, then DOA4 and so on.

I challenge you:

Michelle (only appears in tag tournaments)
Mature (only appears in dream matches)
Seong Mi-Na (she's become a shell of a character ever since Kilik came in)
Reiko (hopefully he's in MKX)

But yeah, being a Hwang fan sucks since he shared moves with Mitsurugi in SE, Xianghua in SC, and then he ended up being replaced by Yun-Seong.

So far the only post-SF4 game we've seen Ono's team create was SFxT. And, BS dead-horse controversy aside...SFxT featured TWENTY-THREE BRAND NEW CHARCTERS WITH ENTIRELY UNIQUE PLAYSTYLES. More than half the roster. And, that's not including the 12 DLC characters, 6 of which were also completely brand new.

So, even if Capcom does recycle animations/models, they've already proven a willingness to accompany those recylced assets with MORE brand new characters and moves. The ratio of recycled to new was clearly in favor of new.

So far, T7's recycled to new ratio isn't as inspiring.

I'd love to be proven wrong, though. We'll see.

That's what a sequel IS. Change for the sake of change. Otherwise, what are you paying for? Why even make the game??

Does anyone ever complain? Nope.

Hayabusa did not have that outfit in the original arcade/DC/PS2 DOA2. The outfits change regularly in DOA. and you're ignoring VF2/VF3 where Akira's default was a blue GI. Not to mention most characters got a makeover in VF5.

Also tekken regularly gives characters other iconic outfits they identify with.

I think Kazuya in some type of suit reads as kazuya just as well as his gi pants.

That's what a sequel IS. Change for the sake of change. Otherwise, what are you paying for? Why even make the game??

For the same reason that Capcom keeps making iterations of Street Fighter 4. People want that new shit, and as far as gameplay goes, this is new shit.

So people complaining about the graphics are completely ignoring the statement that the graphics are only at 50%

Are there some graphic sliders not being turned on due to hardware limitations of whatever system they're running on now? I don't get how you can give a percentage for fidelity unless they have said graphic sliders set to medium or they have half the effects turned on. Are there different character meshes that will be used? Will poly counts rise?

By the way, I think this game looks fantastic. The statement is just really vague.

SF4 expansions are not the same as brand new entries in a franchise. A SF4 expansion is more equivalent to something like Tekken 6 BR... which is perfectly fine if you are adding new characters and a couple of new mechanics/balance changes.

So USF4 is not the same as T7.

Oh, stream is up. Can a mod open the closed thread again? Or can someone create a second thread?

Wow. Amazing. Thanks.

Don't just leave without giving impressions. What do you think of the game?

LOL fair enough, I only got to get in about 3 different matches since the place was packed and lines were crazy. Overall though I like the direction the game is taking. The rage arts and some of the other new systems are creating a more of a comeback element to the game then there ever was before. Graphics wise the game has a TON of things going on at once and it does take a bit to get use to but overall I didn't find it too distracting.

Game play wise it still felt and moved like Tekken, even with all the different things added and in the end that's what I was hoping for the most.

Nice. Thanks.

As far as the rageart, from what I've seen, I think the damage can be toned down but otherwise I do not mind its inclusion. Some people are saying it might mess up the flow of the match. But you're only getting access to it at the very end of the match. Really excited to see where things go in the final arcade version.

Wonder if we will have some "super" compilation by the end of the test , I've seen only 4-5 so far (King Leo Asuka Kazuya Paul)

That jungle stage really looks mad good. Like really good.

Also, isn't a new character supposed to become available for location test use today?
