Tekken 7 - Offscreen videos

I wouldn't mind if Nina got remade. I like her as a character, but I can't do her ss+1 hayashida flappy butterfly ass shenanigans.

I thought we were going to see a new character today? I noticed that Kazumi is on the bana passes...

I don't know. It's because she can do those crazy cancel tricks all the time that I feel she's powerful. And she has completely different reasons for being good than the Mishimas.

What I'd like is some retouching of the animations. Based on this, they're the same as TTT2 and T6 (for the intros). I'd have even been ok with less characters than in this loketest for the final version if that happened.

It's still a bit rough, but i like what i see surely.
I'd like to read actual player feedback about gameplay and performance.
And please, don't judge the visuals by off-screen videos, i mean, come on :P

Hworang and Lilith are going to be my mains......dem legs

Well atleast I know Leo's confirmed.. Btw this is looking like SCV.. With the supers atleast.. I won't make any comments about the graphics since this is an alpha test.

I don't think you understand how 3D modeling works. Just like SF updated its sprites, Tekken updates its character models with higher polygon counts and improved textures in every sequel.

Harada wants each character to have their own iconic look look that never changes. Literally EVERY other fighting game in existence does the same thing.

Hayabusa in DOA 2

Hayabusa in DOA 5 (13 years later)

Akira in Virtua Fighter 4

Akira in Virtua Fighter 5 FS (11 years later)

Does anyone ever complain? Nope.
Tekken didn't start out that way with the exception of a few choice characters. SF had updated art, Tekken does not. It's the same lifeless CG that gets translated to a stiff model 1:1. I'm not talking poly count and textures. I want stylization. Especially if they're going to keep the same outfits.

Well, I'm going to sleep. I've seen enough to be excited for Tekken 7.

Also, people in chat were mentioning Nina is being over-hauled and thus her absence in the loc test. Is this true?

I would be pretty happy with a Nina overhaul. I think she needs it.

Oh shit.... Kazuya has Devil Jin's moves, King has AKing+Marduk's moves...

Nina is gonna have Anna's FC mixups!

EDIT: OR WORSE... Nina has CAT Stance! *shudder*

Have they mentioned what time we'll see the new playable character today?

I hope it'll be Kazumi, the Arab guy, Jin or Miguel.

Weren't they supposed to add a playable character Sunday and Sunday?

Thus the 2 question marks in the character select as well.

So then bound is not really removed? I know I said earlier that they changed it, but the only thing that seems to be changed is what bound looks like (a flop), from what I've seen, its operates exactly like how a bound would.

What do those 2 question mark boxes do? Those aren't random selection I hear. Must be 2 characters, which adds up to the 20 character report from earlier.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to imply in my post in the OT.

Maybe they made the character select screen first but didn't have enough time to make those last 2 characters in a playable condition for the location test.

It doesn't. You can't use it at the wall, it wall splats if they reach the wall and it knocks them way further back than a bound.

Those are just banapass cards. Does the Japanese text say anything about a new playable character?

I've no idea. I speak japanese as much as you do. I hope they reveal her tommorrow, because she was the first thing teased last summer and also because tommorrow is the last day of the location test. That would be really disapointing if they didn't.

Stylization in a 3D game, lol. What are you on about, honestly. What does "lifeless CG" even mean?

Tekken 8 to be cel shaded just BECAUSE.

Totally different rendering style. Goodbye.

Have we got a clarification on what '50% graphical quality' means?

Technically it could mean 720p vs a 1080p full release.

I'm hoping they really upgrade the character models. I want to see some body deformation.

Harada mentioned on twitter that stuff like lighting, skin shaders, textures, etc... Aren't finished yet.

Graphic is only 60%now because we don't have character lighting, skin shader, etc etc.
We will adjust and change lots of things. That's why we are LOCATION TESTING now.

Yeah the only places customizations shine are in the arcade and normal online/offline console playing, so wouldn't get to see some of the cool/ok/horrible customs people use in tournys, so having good alts would be great to give the characters new/updated looks.

I think this basically confirms Tekken probably will never get a change in art direction:

Ah well, better get used to seeing the same outfits for the rest of the series during tournaments since customizations are banned.

That's pretty stupid.

Mainly because it makes the franchise look repetitive and stale (even if it's not). It's not a Street Fighter case because every SF is totally different artwise, in Tekken they haven't changed the style and art since Tekken 5 for fucks sake.

Customization is not an excuse.

i dont think the art style is the problem, a huge graphical leap(cant wait to see how it'll look at 100%) and some new gameplay ideas is what this series needs, stage destruction and stage interactivity also need some work personally

I had to log in for the first time in maybe a year to say that this is simply untrue.

Take a look at King's chains. Some of these animations haven't been changed since Tekken 5. You can see for yourself. Watch during King's Bridge in particular. Look at the way Mokujin's head moves, for example. Look at his arm positions. Exactly the same.
T5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUc5gczNG44#t=1m23s
TTT2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_GbSWGrcbo#t=7m44s

And, many knockdown/juggle animations, various stun animations, and universal things are decades old. So, yeah, there is still some PS1 era animation in the game.

Also, I'd like to say that technological advances like lighting and shading and crap are nice and all...but when people say that it looks like T6 or TTT2 they aren't just talking about "shinier, spiffier models" or "special effects". They're talking about ART DIRECTION, which hasn't changed since Tekken 5. They're talking about the flow and pace of the fighting which hasn't changed in ages. They're talking about the same old characters doing the same old moves, on the same old people. I don't care how shaky your camera is...you would still be able to tell the difference between SF1, SF2, SF3, SF Alpha, and SF4. Heck, you could easily tell the difference between TTT1 and T4 on a potato phone stream. The art direction, style, and pace of those games are completely different.

THAT'S what people mean when they say it "looks like T6 or TTT2" so far.
As much as I love Tekken, the animations remained the same for a very long time, even the movement(Robotic movement). Look at VF for instance, they changed a lot of the animations and movements over the years. Some of the iconic moves remain, but a lot of new ones are added. Heck, VF5 compared to FS is a great example.

They added idle animations to a lot of the cast, shorten the move-list(took know moves out)But added new ones overall. Goh finally got his own animations and not just Akira swaps anymore. Look at the new members that join the Tekken cast after 6, they have great animations and personality. The old cast still have the same idle animations for years. Look at the old cast, and look at the new one(Bob with his flicking of the hand)And plus, how long it took them to add back walk animations? While VF and DOA had them for years. Game looks fun, is still Tekken, but its not refreshing to me because it still looks the same, regardless how many poly counts and effects they add.

SF4 expansions are not the same as brand new entries in a franchise. A SF4 expansion is more equivalent to something like Tekken 6 BR... which is perfectly fine if you are adding new characters and a couple of new mechanics/balance changes.

So USF4 is not the same as T7.

Exactly.
