Tekken 7 - Offscreen videos

As an above-average person, who can count frames, this looks [i}exactly[/i] the same game but a teeny bit prettier. More like an HD port using the old textures but running with more AA and effects. Gameplay? Exactly the same. I even own 5DR, 6 and TTT2. And I've dabbled in Revolution. I have two sticks. This looks the same. I can't imagine what a casual observer thinks but it can't be better than that.

you didn't see this game at max quality ,and no body did.

The footage we have is blurry at best.

Also game is 50% done graphically.Harada confirmed this many times.

man, the Street Fighter X Tekken redesigns of Tekken characters have spoiled me. They all just look so generic in the Tekken art design

Is it weird that I wish for a pure one-on-one Tekken game from Capcom where all the characters get those types of stylistic redesigns and they play like they do in SFxT?

I don't think you can parry supers.

Anyway, I have to head to sleep. Gotta wake up early for Eid.

Gonna miss the Harada announcement.

( Its a joke, because it looks like chun li kicks and one time this guy parried it real good with ken )

That is weird since sfxt's art is horrendous.

Tekken will always have a special place in my heart. That stuff is my childhood, right there.

Given the state it's at in development, I think Tekken 7 looks pretty good so far. I hope the game turns out well for us.

I agree. Tekken 2 was my first Tekken game back when I was near my teenage years playing the Arcade machine constantly at one Wal-Mart store as Lei Wulong (didn't know how to play the game at first). Tekken 2, 3, Tekken Tag Tournament 1, Tekken 5/Tekken 5: Bloodline Rebellion, & TTT 2 are my favorite Tekken games of the lot.

Plus Tekken 7 is only about 60% done visually, so we'll definitely see more improvements on that part, especially.

Is this getting a ps4/xbone release?

Yes it is.

Why would you go to so much trouble to try and make yourself sound important and then invalidate it with such ignorance?

I still miss Tekken 2 to this day. I bought a PlayStation just so I could have Tekken2. Tekken used to be my undisputed favourite game series but it's dead to me now. I've moved over to Virtua Fighter.

I don't know what I expected.

This basically looks like a Tekken 5 with HD graphics and added rage mechanics... I thought Tag 2 was already the pinacle of the T5 series and I was really looking forward for a new "T4" with lots of changes and risks.

But no, we're back at the same old awkward sidesteps animations, the same old juggle physics that have not changed ever since T5 (sometimes with bounds sometimes without), same old stage design and same artstyle (so much samey that we can't tell if the graphics are any better from here).
I don't think I'll bite, this doesn't look any better than Tag2 and I don't see any reason to play a slightly changed one with no clear new idea.

I played the series all my life, perhaps I'm beginning to get sick of it.

Capcom's currently struggling financially.
Not really, on the contrary, Capcom is actually trying to expand. It's just that investors have little hope that Capcom could achieve the level of growth they want, so they don't mind selling their shares.

hm, so tekken 7 is running on namco's system 478 board. question is, is it based on Ps4 hardware or a standard high end PC?

There were rumors from last year (before Tekken 7 was even announced) that Namco was supposedly creating a new arcade board to house its upcoming games, such as Tekken 7 & the sequel to the Gundam Versus series. Dubbed the “System 478".The hardware was rumored to be based off of PS4 tech, similar to how the System 357 and System 256 boards were based off of the PS3 and PS2 respectively.

I wish capcom would do it with the SC characters as well. Just make a namco vs game for them. I think they did a great job with the tekken guys in sfxtk.

tekken was born on the playstation. every single arcade iterated installments had playstation-based hardware and that's why most of the time it's been exclusive to playstation.

last gen though it went multiplatform. ttt2 did still run on Ps3 tech but that was because it was an upgrade from 357.

since the series is multiplatform now, I wonder if system 478 is running specifically on Ps4 hardware or just a standard high end PC. coz you have to wonder if sony ever got anything from this long partnership thing they've had with namco basing their tech on playstations.

harada did say he wanted to make a new tekken for Ps4 before anything else, and I also wouldn't be opposed to the idea of sony paying them to make it exclusive, much like microsoft did with tomb raider

If you really wanna be super reductive about how much of an impact these inclusions will make to Tekken 7, then I can be just as foolish and make claims like Street Fighter 4 is just Super Turbo with a pushed back camera, focus attacks, and ultras. Sure, there is a little bit of truth to that statement, but really there's a lot more to consider than just that.

Except, SF4 used absolutely no assets from ST (or SF3). No animations/keyframes. No sounds. Absolutely nothing. Because it was a sequel. A brand new game.

This can't be said for Tekken 7.

That is weird since sfxt's art is horrendous.

It's amazing what a little personality can do. SFxT even managed to give Ogre some soul, with that VS screen smirk.

I believe that Tekken 7 will most likely run off of PS4 hardware, based on the long history with the other Tekken games running on Playstation hardware.

Tekken 1 & 2 ran off of Namco System 11 hardware (PS1 hardware),
Tekken 3 & Tekken Tag Tournament 1 ran off of Namco System 12 hardware (Upgraded PS1 hardware),
Tekken 4 ran off of Namco System 246 hardware (PS2 hardware),
Tekken 5 & Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection ran off of Namco System 256 hardware (Upgraded PS2 hardware),
Tekken 6 & Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion ran off of Namco System 357 hardware (PS3 hardware), &
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 ran off of Namco System 359 hardware (which is basically upgraded PS3 hardware).

I agree with you but you also have to take into account that tekken was exclusive to playstation most of the time. starting with t6 they decided to go multiplatform and harada even mentioned that porting it to 360 was a pain in the ass.

369 was still Ps3 hardware but like you said it was an upgrade of 357, and why bother making a whole new arcade board when it is mostly the same game engine anyway, like TTT was to T3

since this generation tekken is now fully multiplatform, I wonder if harada opted to use a regular high end PC instead of Ps4 tech, since when he has his console & home versions in mind it won't be just playstation.

i'd like to think system 478 is Ps4 hardware though.

Just because it's now multiplatform, doesn't mean things will change when it comes to development.

Fighting games in general, have never been really popular on Xbox platforms (except for some Capcom fighters being Ultra Street Fighter IV & Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 due to them being technically better on 360 than on PS3), let alone on PC gaming. They're going to most likely develop this with PS4 hardware in mind, because Playstation consoles are where most of the fighting game community are at in general, besides Arcades in Japan.

hm. you are spot on. the only other catch I see though, is that, did sony get anything out of this tekken partnership with namco all these years? they're not just arcade boards with equal specs as playstations, they basically are playstations with tekken games on them. the system 357 board even had its own xmb.

if sony just allowed namco to use it, then yeah system 478 is probably Ps4. but if they had to pay sony all this time... maybe they're doing their own thing with the unreal engine.

i don't really care about other fighting games but I grew up playing tekken. because of its close association with playstation i was pretty shocked and appalled back in 2008 when it was announced multiplatform.

So this game will look 2 times better when its finished?

Well it's impossible to quantify, but he's been saying 60% visual quality lately, so close to twice as good, yes.

I do wonder if the games multiplatform nature wasn't somewhat responsible for the longer load times and rougher visuals. It seemed like every home port prior was an improvement to the arcade version's graphics/performance.

t3 looked better in arcades, since system 12 was slightly more powerful than the actual Ps1, but the port itself was one of the best looking Ps1 titles.

The 360 port HAD to be the reason why load times were so horrendous, especially on Ps3. you remember last generation how all the developers bitched about the cell; system 357 = the cell, and tekken 6 was built all around that.

during an interview when it was announced multiplatform the same announcement said home versions were delayed by another year; the interviewer was asking how easy it would be to port it to 360 since it was already easier to code for and harada said not at all, given how tekken 6 was initially a Ps3 exclusive. they never even thought of touching the 360 hardware. not for tekken, at least

then somehow ironically t6 on 360 had better load times. and i'm guessing it is because they realized what easy programming they were missing out on with the 360's xenon.

if they put the extra effort to maximize the SPEs though... imagine tekken 6 & tag 2 if they had Ps3-exclusive graphics standard visuals?!

Resolution-wise the console versions were pretty close to the actual Bloodline Rebellion arcade machine, if not identical. BR had a much lower resolution than T6 vanilla because of the added motion blur.

Load times probably were affected though. They weren't stupendous in the arcade but doing it from a bluray certainly didn't help.
