TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

video game "summer" technically means until the end of September right? I have credit for the Tekken 7 season pass but I really don't care about gold outfits.

I believe so. Might be best to wait until EVO since there's a chance that there's some news on DLC then.

Last night, a friend of mine came over and we played some offline Devil Jin mirror matches. Two firsts for me. First time I played offline and also first time I ever played on the right side in this game lol

Friend hasn't played Tekken in five years and hasn't taken it seriously in almost ten. I gave him a crash course of new mechanics and combos before the recording but you can tell he still has the classic Tekken 5 combos in his head. Told me not to go too easy on him so he can watch and copy me to get back in the game :)

https://youtu.be/3X-Ed00XgXg

He can still do electrics :p

No these moves are not often used for combos. It's more used as effective offensive tools such as "This is his/her best low attack" or "This move is great in this common situation" etc. Now some of these moves listed are launchers (the move that initiates a combo) though.

If you're new to tekken, you don't need to be worrying about combos as first priority.

My buddy is back and he's still doing Tekken 5 combos. About to play some offline Devil Jim mirror matches.

Second time ever playing on the right side :p

The online on PS4 is super frustrating :(

Yea, I normally play on Steam but I had some friends over and we hopped online on the PS4. I get matches pretty fast on Steam, but man it felt like it was 3x the wait to get a match on PS4, and my connection is much better than it used to be at 110mbps download and 10mbps upload. My connections are usually at least green on both consoles but it takes longer to find a match for PS4.

I might want to learn Ling just to see what's up for her. Gonna try to dig around for a primer.

So how do you all feel about the game one month later?
I love the gameplay and find the game very fun. I'm missing some stuff though and PS4 input lag is pretty noticeable. Online works fine for me though and I'm finding matches super quick. Lobbys with TekkenGAF also work fine.

Time to get a PC, Sasuke-kun.

My thing with PS4 is it takes forever to get matches and it has been laggy for me.

And there is no practice mode interrupt like SF has, just the dumb warm-up mode. Maybe if it had a system like street fighter V, where I pick my characters I want to use in ranked and and player matches in a separate menu, then I could be in practice mode with another character learning stuff while it is looking for both ranked and player matches.

Right now it feels super limited and kinda a waste of my time, combined with the loading times and long matchmaking.

I think the SFV system is better in this regard and hope harada copies it. I want to sit in practice mode at least while I am waiting forever for matches.

Would have to spend at least 600-800€ for it to be worth it and I don't have that money lying around. It's hard to justify the purchase of a PC when I recently got myself a Pro.

oh right you got a pro :( At least you'll get to play Crash. Stream more i want to watch you get your ass whooped :3:

Nah, what you saw was my worst playstyle ever. I generally do pretty bad in ranked, but that was another level of bad :p
Maybe I'll stream player matches next time. I'm at my best when I play against skilled players.

Man I've been on a complete downward spiral. Got demoted 5 ranks between yesterday and today. Climbing that back up again is gonna take forever with that garbage PS4 matchmaking. :(

I wanted to learn Hwo, but he has so many moves and stances it was confusing. Gonna learn from you. Teach me your ways Sasuke sensei Kreygasm

Got to Prime Tekken God in treasure battle with Lili, still don't have 1000 matches total. Sheesh.

PS4 Online is a big waste of time, I'm waiting for the patch, but starting to lose interest.

This is exactly how I feel right now. About to get a Switch and once Splatoon 2 comes out I'm pretty much done with Tekken until the DLC drops

Yeah this has pretty much been my experience. Besides the unavoidable input lag I always find matches in ranked (currently in green ranks) and most not-wifi connections are decent to good. I know some people talked to Harada at CEO and it seems like he's aware of the issues, so I'm hoping they can do something to improve the PS4 version.

What's a good tutorial for me to go through as a primarily SF player?

The game is severely lacking in that department.

There are some links in the OP and you can find other stuff on YT like character guides, bnb combos, or specific things like this video on how to punish different wake up options: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkLNgpVsGwY

So how do you all feel about the game one month later?

Been having a good time with it here. I didn't expect to end up playing much singleplayer, but I've mostly been playing treasure battle so far. It's been the perfect casual thing to relax with.

On the online front, I haven't played too much yet (<50 games I think), but the PS4 version's generally been okay-ish for me when I have played. Load times need to get chopped way the hell down. But matchmaking times have been reasonable for me (typically 25-40 sec), I've only had two matches with microstutters and one with a little extra lag, and my matches are usually extremely fair. My win rate is exactly 50% right now lol. The only weirdness I've had is with the failed connection thing. Usually it's fine -- I can play a short casual session without issue. But if I get a failed connection I'm practically guaranteed to get several more in a row. Quitting out and requeueing seems to help, but I haven't played enough to know for sure.

So yeah, game's been a good time on my end overall. It's absolutely not where it should be, but it hasn't been bad enough to cause any serious frustrations. That next patch needs to get here yesterday though. It's pretty bullshit that this has been out for a month now and lots of people are still having severe problems with the online functionality.

Yeah, same for me. The competition is getting pretty tough, some very good players are getting on making for exciting matches.

Is there a gaf ps4 community? and who do I contact about getting in? Would be sweet to play some games.

Another question. I can't remember if the throw when someone does a low attack is universal for all characters, and if it is, how it's performed? Tired of getting hit by then lows. Want to discourage it :p

universal low parry is done by hitting down forward in time with the opponents low attack.

Holy shit, after trying to play Lucky Chloe online today (PS4), I have WAY more respect now for the folks that can hit her rhythm based moves reliably. Goddamn that was a miserable experience.

Played some of the campaign and was reminded how much I hate boss fights in fighting games. Still nothing compared to getting one shotted by Jinpachi in T5 I guess.

PC needs a rematch option patched into player match ASAP

Takes like 10-15 minutes to get 2 matches in with all the loading, exiting back to select characters, syncing, etc.

This is a pet peeve with modern big name fighting games. Things have regressed in fighting games. Time taken to rematch directly correlates to people finding it tedious and accelerates them eventually stop playing.

Loading screens, loading a pompous bloated character select fanfare, time syncing uploading who won and shit to a server, it's the Current Year and this shit is ridiculous.

You can go on fightcade and the top 3 fighting arcade games can be on a round 1 in around 11 seconds and that's with going through a character select screen. :)

She has rhythm based moves? I was considering trying her out once I've improved my Asuka but maybe not lol.

Yeah a few. For example, if you hit 3 during each hit of her Rage Art, she'll spell out her name if you do it right. If you get all the letters it does more damage (50>65 raw I think) and she does a different pose at the end.

This game fuckin me up. Why me like 4 characters... Last time this shit happened I had to learn 5 characters in DOA :(

I'm trying to stick with Asuka till I actually get at least decent at the game but there are a few characters that are tempting me to switch. I'm already looking at Jin and Lucky Chloe. Maybe Josie too.

That sounds like it'll drive me nuts.

Hey all, I've written an in-depth Tekken 7 Achievement/Trophy Guide. Having looked at all the guides out there, I'm pretty sure it's the most thorough and helpful one you will find - complete with screenshots for nearly every Achievement.
