Television Displays and Technology Thread: This is a fantasy based on OLED

The OLEDs are part of some VIP customer service feature from LG.

I'm hoping that, come Monday, I have a working set.

The LG Specialist I made the appointment with said it sounded to him like I had a faulty power supply, but I don't know how that would be the case with how he vertical line shoots up the screen and then it immediately powers off.

This is what it does, but it's so quick that getting a picture is difficult:

And here's the small gap at the back:

I don't think that's what banding is considered as. I'm rooting for you though. Keep us posted on what happens.

Yeah, when I described it as a vertical band, it's really just a line up the middle, but again, it flashed on for less than a second and right back off.

D-Nice, a famous calibrator at AVS Forums just got a C7 and is saying nice things about it

First TV he thinks is worth replacing his Kuro, better than any OLED from 2016 or earlier

Well I think the general idea is to improve each year. Although there is the conundrum with Samsung QLEDs....

Could you link that post, please? Can't seem to find it but I'm interested in some impressions.

That's the thing though, it was double boxed and the actual TV box is in perfect shape.

A power supply could probably be responsible for that. I had an electrical issue at my old house that was making the TV dim and instantly shut off.

Hopefully this issue is a quick fix!

Would this line in the screen be indicative of just a power supply issue too?

That's the one thing making me think that the set is just a dud as a whole. It helps to jump on here and talk about it all, just because my wife is tired of me being mopey about it. Haha.

And I'm sure the 2018s are going to be better than the 2017s.

source ? because all retailers/sellers have been under strict embargo/NDA

See my post a few pages back #3942.
They had a tag for $3999 for the 55" which the Sony rep confirmed.
The 65" price came from someone who asked about that size since it wasn't on display. Maybe it was $5500. I need to double check my notes if I still have them.

Looking to buy a 70-75" 4K w/HDR. Budget is under $3000 Canadian. What's the best bet?

Looking at the Samsung 70" KU6290. Looks like I can buy one for around 2 grand. Any feedback on that one?

Why? How do those prices compare against the LG high end OLEDs of the same size?

Since LG's offer the same picture across the whole range you have to compare against the B7. Sure they have different filters on top of the panel and might use better processors but it's not a good look for both Sony and Panasonic.

Samsung KS8000 back at the $1500 price it was just before the Super Bowl. Sooo tempted to bite, but with the 2017s imminent maybe wait a few weeks?

Edit: Also what is the difference on the KS8000 that Costco has (UN65KS800DFXZA) versus say Amazon? Same TV or cheaper for the retail stores?

So is it a good look for LG to offer more expensive sets?

If the Sony sets offer improved performance, like many are anticipating they will, then there will be an incentive for those who are willing to pay more. Just sucks cause I want one, lol

So I received my 55 E6 from Cleveland Plasma yesterday. I got a pretty good deal at $2100 with fast delivery. The picture quality out of the box is pretty amazing with only a few minor adjustments to the picture so far. I'm waiting to break it in at 300 hours, before I adjust the individual colors.

One Question though, does anybody else have handeshake problems with the PS4 Pro in HDR mode and then quitting games. About half the time, after quitting games I got to restart the Pro or I get no picture/sound. Any ideas?

Yeah it is a handshake issue with the C/E/G series -- on my 65C this happens, but my 55B it does not. They patched it on the B but I don't think they have patched the handshake issue on the other models yet.

Have you tried updating firmware via USB?

Just like all Sony televisions this prices will dwindle into reality after a few months. A 65 inch Z9 can be had for 3500 but announced at 6500.

Disable HDCP on your PS4's settings and see if that helps. All my handshake issues went away when I did that.

I made an impulse buy and purchased a TV with nearly 0 expert reviews. Sharp 65N9000U. Was this a mistake? I purchased it new for $1049 from ebay. The only real impressions and info I was able to get was the AVS forum, many members posted that it had better blacks and picture quality than the ks8000 series, one member posted a side by side comparison with a 55ks9000.

Theres a couple issues, the input lag isn't the best, 30ms in game mode, I have no idea what it is in HDR and the TV is also suffering from a color processing bug which all indications point towards it being fixed soon via firmware update.

How do I turn all that trumotion shit off on HDR 4K movies? Right now I have it on HDR game mode since that seems to be the only one where it's off by default.

Edit: nm. Hidden 5 deep in menus.

Picking up a new TV today. I did get the Sony 55" XD93, which is pretty good, but with the recent price drops on the 55" OLEDS I'm looking to get either the B6 or C6.

I think I like the uniqueness of the C6, as I know LG are getting rid of the curved screen with the C7. It's quite a small curve, and the 3D adds and extra benefit as well.

Decisions......... :D

Other than the warp on the back piece, there's nothing physically wrong with the unit. Screen itself looks to be in great shape.

It just looks like the back plastic wasn't clipped entirely in place. You should be able to press it into place until it clicks. Though that side is where the power supply PCB is and if the set does have a defective PS PCB, it should be a relatively simple fix (they'll just order the PCB replacement to install into the new set). LG will usually overnight the part and the install will take less than a half hour. I doubt you have a panel or input board problem. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The rate at which these panels are improving is nice.

Yeah it looks like it is going to be a wait for me though, as a B6 owner. I can't justify the massive outlay for those improvements, considering how expensive it will be here in the UK.

Also the motion not being improved at all is odd. I expect better from Sony on that front, but the price will be key.

Either way, I'll be happy with my B6 for another year.
