Temu to stop selling goods from China directly to US customers

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Temu has said it will stop selling goods imported from China in the US directly to customers from its platform.

The online marketplace said sales would now be handled by "locally based sellers", with orders fulfilled from within the country.

The move comes as a duty-free rule for low-value packages is closed.

Temu, and rival Chinese retail giant Shein, had previously relied on the so-called "de minimis" exemption to sell and ship low-value items directly to the US without having to pay duties or import taxes.
Temu said it had been actively recruiting US firms to join the platform.

"All sales in the US are now handled by locally based sellers, with orders fulfilled from within the country.

"The move is designed to help local merchants reach more customers and grow their businesses," it added.

That duty free rule was part of what killed a lot of US businesses, because there was no way anyone was going to compete with it. Say you want to mail a sweater to the next town over, shipping was 3x the price compared to getting a sweater from china/hk.

In my opinion I don't give a shit and dumps like Ali, Temu, and Wish belong in the trash where they belong.

Aliexpress? I got a few items from the site for years and depending on the seller, there are some good ones if you know where to look.

Bought cheap microscope to do electronic repairs, some modchips, ribbon cables, electronic kits, adapters, even defunct game parts just restore old consoles to work again.

Even this guy who does repairs got some stuff from Aliexpress and made impressive modification to his old crt tvs.

EEVblog bought a cheap portable oscilloscope from Aliexpress.

I remember 10 years ago people were saying how fast fashion the likes of Zara and H&M is bad for the planet. 10 years later and people doubled down on buying thrash that breaks after a week or clothes that tear after a single wash. But dem savings!

honestly that's a net win, for the US and the environment considering that shit is mass produced cheaply, breaks instantly and ends up poluting the oceans and creating larger landfills.

It's outrageous how much US sellers charge for the same things. When I bought a VR headset, I needed prescription lenses cause of my eyesight. I looked at US sellers and they want at least $60 plus extras for different kinds of coatings and they wanted to charge even more cause my prescription was too high. The cheapest quote was $120 and at least 3 weeks (or pay extra to get it within a week). I got the same thing from AliExpress for $30 and free shipping which took 5 days. The greedy fucks that masquerade as US based lens makers probably source the lenses from the same people in China, charge an exorbitant extra, and are too cheap to pay for shipping.

The 3 weeks are probably the US sellers also order your stuff from Aliexpress and just being the middleman, which is why their end took a lot longer to deliver likely get rid of the original Aliexpress packaging.

I suspected as much cause the product I received looked pretty much the same as what the US retailer has on their website.

Never used Temu, but Aliexpress is amazing for electronics and hobbyists. Does require a bit of investigation on the really niche items though.

Aliexpress is pretty good. It usually has way better prices than Temu too (at least in my country).
The market seems to be flooded with cheap chinese stuff anyway, unless you are buying something from a big brand you might as well get this cheap chinese stuff directly from China instead of some random vendor on Amazon who will literally sell you the exact same item for a higher price.

This is how it's been anytime I've ordered, this doesn't change anything

That's exactly how they operate, sell you the same shit at 3 times the price sourced from the same seller in CHYNA

Okay, these are nice and I can see the utility here.

This is a comment that needs more attention on these forums. Legitimately so much weight, and well thought out. I legitimately laughed at this for like 1+ minutes, and I'm rather angry that 90% of the daft here won't get it. Well played. Seriously! 😂
You sound abit dim, sun.

It's all garbage. Temu is like going to those bootleg DVD stands in the mall. That's a dated reference, but you get the idea.
