Tesla Cybertruck defies critics, earns 5-star safety rating from NHTSA

Either give a five star rating or the NHTSA and Department of Transportation gets gutted by DOGE.

I don't trust anything coming out of this regime, when the President is doing fucking ads on the White House lawn because the little guy is fighting back.

so much this... yeah like this department was ever gonna give it anything other than 5* when Musk/Trump have shown themselves to eviscerate departments that make them fweel bad

He can't keep getting away with it

Exactly this. Even if I could afford a Tesla I wouldn't buy one because I wouldn't want in any way to be aligned with the brand he represents, same with most here I assume - whether the cars are good / safe / shit / whatever doesn't really matter.
Yup, never seen a guy I admired so much absolutely torch his reputation so hard. Cucking the president into becoming an auto salesman, banning people on X for being mean to the orange man, calling to impeach the judiciary for things he doesn't like, the list goes on. Absolute fiduciary malpractice for his businesses as well.

It's was the best selling vehicle (over 100K) in the US in 2024.

And the Model Y was the best selling vehicle worldwide in 2023 and 2024.

Well yea, most Americans have shitty tastes lol , its a shitty car tipo :)

What is the NHTSA.
I knew what was.
I am asking what it is.

Let me tell you Weiner, the NHTSA, they're doing a good job, okay? Some people say they're great, some people say they're not so great, but believe me, nobody knows safety better than the NHTSA. Under my administration, we had the best numbers — lower accidents, lower fatalities — people were safer on the roads, I can tell you that. We're talking about big success, the best success. But let's be clear, we don't want to overregulate. We don't want too much government getting in the way. We want people to drive their cars, folks, to have freedom. But we also want them safe, right? Safety's important. So the NHTSA, they did a good job, but we always have to do better. We're gonna make sure people are driving the best cars, with the best technology, and the safest roads.

Best car to be in when in collision. Worst car to have in (any) collision when you are not in it.

Well, not even the best car, 5 star from NHTSA isn't even that rare of a thing. Here are some more trucks with 5 star ratings, and you can actually do actual truck stuff with them too unlike the Cybertruck:

Hyundai Santa Cruz
Toyota Tundra
Ram 1500
Ford F-150
GMC Sierra 1500
Chevy Silverado 1500
Honda Ridgeline

If you wanted a truck that didn't instagib pedestrians, Maxus eTERRON 9 has full 5 stars from EuroNCAP (the better standard), and one of the highest pedestrian scores for the class.

Its hard for me to take anything about the cyberteuck all that seriously. It feels like Elon made a bet that he could design soemthing so garish and silly looking and still have people buy it. Maybe it'll be aestheticslly pleasing ones we have microchips in our head and process information in binary

Someone should've told that Cybertruck it had a 5 star NTHSA rating, when it burst into flames and killed three kids, as its doors couldn't even be opened.
5 star safety ratings don't prevent speeding while drunk driving. You're trying way too hard. I can't stand electric vehicles, but your wild hate with anything Elon is beyond unreasonable.

Huh, if it's too cold for Cyberstuck, maybe the car needs a little heat to work. :messenger_fire: At least it's very safe for yourself and everyone around you when you can't drive it and abruptly explode somewhere, or shed panels on the road!

electrically operated doors and electric door handles need to be outlawed real fast. no idea how they ever became legal... meanwhile the US still doesn't allow smart matrix LED lights that prevent blinding oncoming traffic 🙃 weird priorities

Such a bad stat that they have to mention over $100,000, where is it in the best selling vehicles of any price?

Why not just compare the sales of Cybertruck vs Ford F series as they are in the same bracket/category, you know, pickups (less than 40k vs over 700k)

In fact, with it being such a bad truck compared to the competition (unless 1/4 mile times in your work truck are important) then it also costing way more than the competition at over $100,000 does that not paint it in an even worse light?

Anyhoo, back to the topic at hand, I agree with others, the safety of the passengers is important, but the fact that this is built like a tank means that the safety of other road users and pedestrians is very important if not more so also so this safety rating means little without a full report including that of pedestrian and other road users safety ratings.
