There's only one thing that's missing from every new car these days...

POP UP HEADLIGHTS

I once knew a guy with an Audi that had 350k miles on it. Just because a single vehicle hasn’t failed doesn’t mean that model is reliable.

I want to know how far the average Tesla goes before it breaks down.
lol - Tesla’s have been in mass production since around since 2012. You’re literally spreading FUD using “the absence of evidence is evidence”. There are tons of articles showing Tesla’s with lot of miles on them, spend 10 seconds looking instead of putting the onus on someone else.

That above article is about a guy who literally abused his car and put thousands and thousands of miles on it in a short span and the car is still going. It’s a good test case, to throw it away as a “one off” is pure bullshit.

Good old Elon is doing some damage control, people are saying the video is fake and the car door is open softening the impact.

looks kinda gross like something from a futuristic 80s movie. ew. I think its pointy-ness messes up like the car's aerodynamics which has an effect on something...its speed?? can any engineers please explain why curves are better??

The power of memes is amazing. They got 146k preorders of a meme car, Elon is the greatest genius.

I don't really want a Mars Rover instead of a truck but I'm not dumb enough to tell 146k people they are all wrong. I'll be sticking with my Model 3 though.

That's the whole issue with it. The glass is under tension in the car which will result in it breaking vs what they showcased on the other demo.

It's clear they put the glass lose in that video from its frame. Its clearly showcasing. He would have been better to just not make a video about it.

Even while the car looks like total shit, still kudo's to him for trying something new.

First I was like "whaaat?".
Then I was like "hmmmmmMMMMMmmm..."
Then after watching it in motion became sold.

Really, I think my biggest gripe was the type of metal finish, that seemed like some industrial metal style making it seem like a home project.

The return of more angular design I like, as the more rounded designs that have plagued the car industry since at least the start of the 00s all end up looking very samey.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
I can't stop thinking about this car, and I am not the target market at all.
Really thankful to the team behind this; truly a dream vehicle. My first road trip in this beast will be the thing for ages.

I wonder what the range will be while pulling a boat or trailer, that's the reason I'd be buying it. I also wonder if there will be color options, I'd like to see it in white or red.

The way they presented it pretty much confirms it's nothing but a toy with no real practical purpose.

Let's make an electric city pickup which looks futuristic and ugly with bulletproof windows just for the sake of it.

^Pre-orders don't mean squat. People can cancel anytime until the car is released in 2021. I think many will do so once they realize what a bad financial decision this is... or once they're brought back to reality by someone else.

People on Twitter are using the 40,000-dollar metric when discussing the upper-end of the specifications. $40,000 only gets me a range of 250 miles and 7,500 lbs of max towing. I could spend $15,000 less and double those metrics with a gas-powered truck.

And I would have the convenience of having a gas station around the corner where I fill up in minutes as opposed to charging for hours.

Elon Musk is a genius. You can put a hundred dollar (!) refundable (!!) "pre-order" and brag on social media for ~2 years about how you'll be getting the Cybertruck.

the deposit is not refundable, btw

this isn't an Amazon video game pre -order

That $7,000 driving software they install on it makes Photoshop look cheap!

And I'd never buy a Tesla without it, personally. The biggest reason I'm interested in these cars is out of the hope that one day soon it will completely drive for me.

Love the aerodynamics on this :/ , cars have curvy lines for a reason, better mileage and drag coefficient ( the lower the number the better ).
I just don't see how this design as revolutionary. Sure - it's different (futuristic/poorly styled/ugly mofo?) , from an efficiency perspective - I think it's poorly designed. It seems to me that Tesla's pitch has been about making cars more efficient, getting better range, saving the planet . . . . This truck doesn't move Tesla towards that goal.
I think of cars I like similar to the type of women I like, curvy and sexy in the right areas not flat and slab sided like this design.

I kinda agree, but I also think this truck isn't really meant for regular people. The weird look is clearly just meant to get the name out. Some will buy it because it's weird and new, but I kinda feel like this is some sort of trojan horse to get more into the construction/transportation industry.

Really, any company that has to do constant short-range hauls of anything between point A and B could get great use out of these.

You don't need to charge for hours $TSLAQ. Superchargers can take you from like 20-80% in ~30 minutes. Range is really only a concern with EVs when you are going cross country.

I've been researching trucks for the past 6 months for a possible purchase, please show me a new half ton truck for $25k that can pull 15klbs. Hell, any half ton truck that can pull 15klbs! You won't find it, the cybertruck is priced very competitively. Every truck I've looked at was $50k+.

Sorry, 33% more towing capacity (10,000 lbs) than a Cybertruck for 28 grand MSRP, but you can get it at 25 or lower. Fuel economy is 16-21 mpg.... so if we take 18 mpg as the average, you would get over 500 miles on a single tank.

100% more range.
33% more towing capacity.
$15k less.

That doesn't account for the cost per mile.
At $4.00 per gallon and 21 MPG fuel efficiency, the truck you linked to has a price of $0.1904 per mile.
The CyberTruck has a battery of 250KW that delivers a range of 250mi and the cost per KW is about 13 cent, therefore you are looking at $0.13 dollars per mile.

For every 100k miles, you would be paying an extra $6k on the truck you linked to, and that is in a fantasy world in which the cost of gas doesn't increase and the cost of electric doesn't decrease.

Ford has the better truck, nobody knows if this truck will takeoff, let me remind everyone that the Ford F-150 has 100+ years in the limelight, so experience is the one flaw I see with this cyber truck.

I actually work at the big F and I don't believe products can be invincible forever just because of experience. Even Ford proved that on Le Mans in the 60's.
