Testing out my Video Capture Card: Old Australian SEGA Advertisement

Finally got around to buying a capture card for my computer, been meaning to get one for a while now.

Anyhow, I've made up two files, one which I've got up currently, seen here:

Old SEGA Advert, Aussie only. It was more of a "SEGA in general" thing, with an ongoing 3D battle storyline through ads. Unfortunately, it has no sound. Not the capturers fault, as other parts of the tape work fine in sound. Damn shame, still, it's weird seeing 1994 cheap CG :)

The other clip is from an old Comedy Variety show back in 1997. I'll post a link when it's uploaded.

Enjoy! It should be using Xvid encoding.

Speaking of encoding, I've been trying to put some of my stuff to be viewable on DVD, but Audio goes out of sync due to fluctuating Audio quality or something. Some programs seem to be okay with it [DVDSanta, Nerovision], but some recent ones it has been hating, and skews the audio, or refuses to make DVD videos out. Any other good programs I should look out for? Opening the files in VirtualDub doesn't help, as it comes up with a complaint message, and I want to know as easier way that uncompressing the audio and recompressing it after :)

Here's the second clip, from an old Full Frontal episode.

Full Frontal was an absolutely fantastic show back in it's hay day [1993-1997]. Many great commedians went through this show.

This clip features Shaun Micallef as one of his famous characters, Milo Kerrigan, an fake Australian footballer / boxer who got hit one many times in the head, and John Walker as Ian Goodings, a news reporter.

Very funny clip, hope you enjoy it!

Again, Xvid. Any tips for encoding etc?

Unfortunately, it's one single episode, very wavey, on a very old VHS tape I had. I'm surprised I even had it on there :)

I don't even recall seeing that one, so I doubt I have it on tape somewhere :(

I'm currently searching through some old OLD VHS tapes which I may not have gone all the way to the end with, hoping for some bits and pieces :)

By the way, to play an NTSC tape, does the tape player have to be NTSC compatible, or just the TV? I have some OLD Promotional SEGA tapes from Howard Johnsons, but my VHS is pretty old.

i'd expect the player to have to be NTSC compatible as well as the TV

Bugger. I don't have the tape with me, hopefully the guy who has it will be able to.

and Holy crap! I had half a mulligrubs episode on tape! It was a super-young kids show, where most of the episode was done by this thing:

:O

Sean Micallef was the best thing to come from Full Frontal.

Milo Kerrigan and "David McGahan's World" were great. :lol

Reminds me I need to play with my video capture device at some point. As a 'noob' I suck. I wish I could find a FAQ for DScaler......... [/offtopic]

Nice stuff!!

Speaking of Sean Micallef, did anyone ever watch the Micallef Show?

There were these skits he would do where it was like the whole room turned on its side, and he was sliding down the floor hanging onto things and stuff....Still some of the best active comedy i've ever seen, he did it so well.

Also Roger Explosion was regularly hillarious. :D

Freak out of the Americans on this board by showing them video of the kind of shit we grew up with. :(

Oh Shit Mulligrubs! What kid wouldn't have nightmares from that crap? Yeah, post up a clip man, that shit was crazy. I wonder who the chick was who played that face on the wall freak?

Awesome Sega ad too, I remember that. I wish I had a capture card, I have this really old video that came with a copy of Sega Pro (an old british Sega mag) or something, that was trying to sell the Mega CD as the next big thing. Had some really awesome (crummy) stop motion shit, lots of clips of games, and some classic shitty rock song I can't remember the name of. I also have this video I got when I preordered my n64, which featured Ken Lobb going on and on about how amazing the n64 was and how revolutionary the control stick would be :lol I would watch it over and over as a kid. Greeeeat memories.

:lol That Sega ad was hilarious! You don't happen to have the Aussie N64 launch ads with Tim Ferguson prancing around as Mario, do you? =p
I loved those N64 launch ads. Ferguson ("DON'T FORGET YOUR TOOTHBRUSH!") speaking trash whilst they played awesome clips for Mario 64, Wave Race 64 and Pilotwings 64. Fucking great stuff back then.
