Texas bucks trend of Dem-ruled states, will not shutdown

So who will be proven to be right and who will be proven to be wrong? Do Texans just value individual freedom a bit more? It's also interesting that Washington, being one of the initial hotspots, hasn't issued any lockdown. Is it because they see the worst is over?

It would really be fascinating to find out what is going behind the scenes of all these different decisions between states. California especially is curious, for a state that barely has 1K infections and a couple dozen deaths, they decided to enact the most draconian shutdown measures of all. I wonder why?

It'll be interesting to see. If these deaths don't slow down in heavily quarantined areas in a few weeks, will people just give up and start having orgies in the streets? A hard pivot from Nurgle to Slannesh?

It really won't matter since by and large these lock downs are a joke because every business is either deemed "essential" already, or they file for an exemption. Make soda, gum, candy, or some other frivolous garbage? That's "food" and so considered essential. Need a Celine Dion CD? Who the fuck doesn't in times like these! Best Buy is "essential". And so on.

They're all putting profits over people whether they're on "lock down" or not.

i talked to a friend of mine who is a super progressive feminist. she had a funny point of view.

basically she is mad that the whole world is closing down "just to save some boomers". she thinks it is doing way more damage to shut everything down than otherwise. it's funny cos she is pro science but apparently she doesn't care if people spread it bc it "kills boomers"

she kept harping on this point, i pointed out i'm not a boomer, and that because of my blood disease, i was at risk. she kind of ignored that and continued on her rant. tbh it was kind of weird to hear her keep dehumanizing people and brushing away the deaths of an entire generation.

starting to think she is not very smart after all.

It has already affected Texas economy in a big way. Bars, concerts, movie theatres, the non-essential travel over the Mexican border. Restaurants limited to take-out (which, by the way, my Olive Garden was not following and was still sitting people)

So its a bit of a hollow victory if we stay open. I'll still take it, and I'm grateful to keep working, earn my salary, and provide. But its hollow. We'll still feel the effects.

Imagine risking your life to eat at fucking Olive Garden.

I would LOL that, but people might think I'm laughing at "Boomer Remover". Most of those people don't get that in 20 years they will be the "Boomers" dying from their lungs being glued shut if this is not wiped out.

Oh it will, and even if they did people wouldn't listen. I guess the fact that it isn't deadly to everyone is the issue. Even I feel like going hiking now because the weather is nice and my state is semi-locked down.

Good. We could really use a control group for the quarantine experiment. If NYC’s new case rate doesn’t level off within a month, or Texas’ new case rate doesn’t climb far beyond what would be expected on a first-case-aligned time scale, we can conclude hunkering down isn’t effective and the thing just has to run its tragic course.

I’m not saying I hope for that outcome, exactly. But the current restrictions aren’t socially or economically sustainable.

Thats what I got fam. I don't agree with them still sitting people if thats what my earlier post implied lol I just noticed they were still doin the whole ""o-ok guys we can stay open just keep people 6 feet apart" bullshit.

What is happening is far tamer than what can happen.

Right now, it's voluntary - cities / counties have instituted stricter mandates, but Abbott also said penalties and what not are not off the table (ie. mandatory state-wide at some point).

I've called it operation sonic boomer. Get rid of the drain in entitlements such as social security and Medicare.

All States should be recommending best practices and to stay at home when possible. But just because one technique leads to the fewest deaths does not make it the best solution. For example, we could shoot the infected and burn their corpses - this would limit spread and reduce strain on hospitals... and may result in far fewer overall deaths. But it is inhuman, unfeeling, and totalitarian. Likewise, a hard quarantine and martial law may reduce overall death, but comes at the price of liberty and possible economic catastrophe.

Clearly, the best answer is somewhere in the middle. Hard recommendations to stay home whenever neccessary will hopefully be enough.

The only way Bernie will win is if all these boomers die. That is what she is really thinking.
Also, we must redo the primaries now that so many of the Biden voters have died off.

That is her secret fantasy. Do not associate with crazy progressives.

No clue what you guys are talking about, but here in Dallas/Frisco, everything is shut down. All schools are closed, all non-service retail is door/car delivery only now.

🤷 To each their own? Though I struggle to find anything enjoyable about Olive garden.🤮

Fuck that.. I work for Olive Garden's parent company and we are really suffering because of this. I don't know when I'll be able to work again and I have not been responsible with my money at all this year. Oh well, guess I'll just starve after a few weeks of this.

I mean this is Texas. They have drive-thru malls, drive-thru liquor stores, Social distancing is by-default as well. If you see a brown-skin come within 1 mile of your house, you shoot them. Everyone else is dumbfuck compared to texas

Does anyone have any hard stances that Texas won’t close? I’ve been hearing from my govt fiends they are debating hard quarantine. The economy is total shit right now anyways.

Do you even live in Texas? Because if you don’t like “brown” people you’re not going to have a good time here.

Because it's extremely clear that were trying not to overload an already overworked healthcare system? China's looking at a second outbreak, we're on the verge of one, it's growing in numbers and it's clearly underreported considering we have community cases and are weeks behind in test results.

Great, I don't know how this is going to turn out. I'm in southeast texas, there's already a few cases in beaumont texas like 20-25 miles away.

I hope for the best.
