Texas man sentenced to 24 years in prison for distributing weed

The thread title is bullshit. He tried to bribe an officer and dea agent. Those are huge issues. I like weed but this thread title is stupid.
On top of that. This is for 15 years of offenses. He sounds like a drug king pin. Not a small time dealer.

He didn't try to bribe any officers. He tried to hire a DEA informant and an Undercover Officer. So basically he got caught in a sting.

And everyone talking about the size of his operation and that his crime crosses state lines seems to be ignoring that none of that is taken into account in the sentencing. The article states he's only charged with selling and that the Prosecutors sought more time because he had a prior felony possession conviction, 20 years ago, in another state.

This isn't a Judge sentencing him more harshly because of the details. It's directly because of the mandatory minimum sentencing policy from the DoJ. So while you may or not "feel bad" for the guy, the entire point of this article is that given the charges, the sentencing is out of hand. It's an example of the kinds of sentencing we're going to be seeing be doled out. Even for the little guys.

Where are you getting that?

Lopez owned several trucking companies, and he was nabbed after he tried to hire a DEA informant and an undercover officer to transport marijuana for him.

He tried to pay two people who he didn't know were associated with law enforcement (one of them isn't law enforcement at all, just an informant). That's not bribery.

no you're right. I misunderstood the OP. sorry

Don't really know what to say about the situation but the guy seems like a real time dealer with all that weight.
