...on my car insurance.

Not but really, on my PS2. My drive was crapping out and the advice on this forum said to call Sony and they'll fix it for free.

And that is exactly what happened. Here is the best part: I dropped it off at the UPS Store on a Saturday. When they asked me what shipping option to use, I chose the slowest one which they said would be there on Thursday.

Well, wouldn't you know but I got it BACK on Thursday!! Obviously UPS Store gave me the worst case scenario, but even still how Sony was able to fix it and return it so fast is unheard of when it comes to "service centers"

No wonder the Donald thinks the Playstation company is so great!

I'm sure at this point they've got the drive swap procedure(whatever it is they actually do) down to a science. Check the serial #'s to see if it's the same unit you sent.

I don't think so - it has the same serial #, bar code, model #, etc.

Plus, the packing slip mentions the following in the description of parts/services

DEVICE, OPTIC KHS-4 KIT-02
TRAY ASSEMBLY KIT-04
VOID TAPE PS-22
CONSTANT NO MECH MOTION
REPLACED PARTS
FUNCTIONAL CHECK

with the first 3 entries including a part # and a quanity of 1.

That's not "your" PS2.

It's just a refurbished PS2.

Actually, I sent in my PS2 for disc read errors and the turnaround was about the same. And they definitely sent the same console back as it still has the big shoe skuff mark on the front from where I had kicked it in a drunken stupor.

I remember throwing my Xbox around like 5 times when I was drunk, don't know why really...but the thing still worked like a charm the next day. That thing is built like a tank.

I've had great experineces with SONY. They REPLACED an expensive receiver of mine that was 1 month past a 2 year warranty. Some people rag on their products but their customer service is great.

Out of curiosity how much did the shipping cost?

My Ps2 doesn't read blue backed, cd games any more, and gives me DRE's half the time with DVD games. I kinda held of sending it to sony because I heard it took 4-6 weeks to repair. I'll probably send it after beating DMC3.

Unfortunately, the cheapest shipping with tax and everything was $30.

Shipping: 14.13
Packaging: 5.00
Packaging material: 9.95

I might have saved money if I looked into more options, but I was in a rush.

Sony fixed my old PS2 (30001) twice for disc read errors.

After I got it back the second time (less than a year after the first time), I wasn't about to take any more chances so I traded it in to a gamestop ($100) a month before the price drop to $150. I then waited said month and got the pro-scan (50001) unit which has been problem free.

And while I didn't mention this, the warrant ended...I dunno..but it's been years.

That simply doesn't matter. Sony has to repair any disc read errors for free due to a class action lawsuit that they lost/settled.
