I don't hate Federer but I am certainly not in his cheering section. Am I supposed to be his #1 fan or something? I don't automatically hop on someone's bandwagon just because of winning % (not saying that's the reason his fans used)

(and where do you get the impression that I don't think Federer is talented? @_@)
You don't have to cheer or love him. I think a great player like him just deserves respect from all of us for what he has accomplished. IF you do respect him, then that's good and I stand corrected. It's just that that kind of attitude does not come across your posts.

Keep laughing when Nadal consistently bites the dust against likes of Murray, Cilic, DelPotro, Djokovic on hardcourts. Or won't the losses count because Nadal will be injured for the rest of his life ? :lol :lol :lol

None of those guys have more grand slam titles on (supposedly Nadal's achilles heel hardcourt) than the now completely written off Nadal.

A few don't even have ANY hardcourt(let alone on any surface) grand slam championships but grand slams I guess are only relevant when Federer wins them.

It's not that Nadal is that much better than these guys(Cilic though, come on), it's that calling Nadal a hack just makes you look stupid.

Ask Federer(who is supposedly brutally honest) if Rafael Nadal is a "hack" on any surface.

So what's going to be the next big tennis tournament? I don't really follow the calendar - I just watch tennis when I see it on the bbc site, really, but hopefully there's something before the French open to look forward to.

Federer is an expert at beating players who have only one good trick up their sleeve.

He beats people who knock the cover off the ball, overly defensive players, etc.

Federer succeeds at knowing styles and overcoming them with spectacular all-around play.

Having beaten Roger Federer (and countless other players) with more than just looping shots, Nadal has proven himself as the real deal.

This is professional sports, same old story. When you're up, you're only up for a short while. Unless you're Roger Federer.

He outshot the greatest shot maker of all time in that epic slam final.

But maybe Federer was having an "off day".

The Masters 1000 of Indian Wells and Miami in February/March I think. Before that, there is Rotterdam and Dubai, but these are not mandatory events for the players.

And since we're throwing out criticisms of players' games, wouldn't it be just as easy to write off Del Potro, who after hitting Federer and Nadal off the court, lost to Marin Cilic? Maybe Cilic presents a style which all players should adopt to beat Del Potro.

Or perhaps Murray could be written off for lacking the will to win. Surely despite his technical mastery of defense, the man can't do much more than wait for other players to hit errors.

Then there's Davydenko, who couldn't seem to find his way once the pace of play slowed down. Should we discount his chances?

Tsonga didn't even put up a fight against the world's #1, and was more than challenged against lesser players.

Cilic is a good player, but maybe he needs better endurance to last through difficult tournaments.

All of the above statements are of course nonsense, because these are all incredible athletes who put forth their all on a daily basis to best one another. Their styles are different, their records are very different, but each of them can rise to the occasion under the right circumstances. They don't need tricks or excuses. They need the opportunity to show off their unique talents.

In spite of his disappointing AO, I still view del Potro as the future dominant player on the tour. His fitness seems to remain a liability (unfortunately, it wasn't the case at the '09 US Open ;-). I love to see him utterly dominate Nadal (he did it twice already), something even Fed hasn't really done or at least done in a long while (2007 YEC in Shanghai). That's saying something.

For the record, I was pretty vocal about Federer getting robbed (IMO) by not being named the AP's Athlete of the Decade. My respect for Federer may not be represented in all of my posts because I like to stay mysterious =p

I respect his game but the world isn't going to end if he loses every once in a while.

April 24th: Masters 1000 - Rome (Internazionali BNL d'Italia) *clay*
May 9th: Masters 1000 - Madrid (Mutua Madrileña Madrid Open) *clay*

You and Manics need your on TV show or something.

1. The headline said defied the ODDS, not defied the sports punditry. Sports punditry is irrelevant as far as odds are concerned. Most websites make wild predictions just to get hits. Federer has made 18 of the last 19 finals so don't you think it's a little, I dunno....FUCKING STUPID not to have him as the favorite? He defied someone's crazy prediction, not an odd.

2. What crow? Do you even know what the phrase means? I picked Federer to win. Don't say things just to sound cool to your peers.

No you didn't you picked Tsonga. :D
