I still don't understand how they managed to pull some talent like Genny Tartakovsky and then use him for Hotel Transylvania...

He would have been the perfect director for some tentpole action franchise. But no, he has to make HT and gets a canned Popeye project.

And I still don't understand how within all this madness, MiB/21 Jumpstreet didn't happen.
That was so insane as an idea that it would have worked.

Wow that sounds awful, especially the Norman Osbourne frozen thing head. Good god these people had no idea what they were doing.

Webb's been good for nothing since 500 Days of Summer. made two awful spiderman movies then some mediocre genius kid movie with Chris Evans, and now apparently his new movie is spme wack take on The Graduate.

Have you actually seen Gifted? I thought it was pretty good.

Genndy chose Hotel Transylvania, that and he only worked as animation director anyway. The Popeye fell apart, same with MiB / 21 Jumpstreet, which I believe is technically still listed as being in development, but hasn't gotten made yet.

Didn't they already shoot a bunch of deleted scenes with another actress as MJ?

Shailene Woodley of Divergent fame.

Her scenes were shot, cut, then promised to be included in the next film.

There's also a deleted alternate ending involving Peter meeting his once-dead father at Gwen Stacy's grave.

No I don't think they ever explain how he survived the plane crash.

After how bad SM3 was and given what we knew about SM4, I'm not sure that would have been better.

SM3 was fine, all the hate is just people rewriting history, it was fresh on RT and a lot of people were trying to pass it off as the worst movie ever.

The 3.1 cut alone fixed half the problems the movie had.

Are you really asking why movies based on comics are quite liberal about bringing characters back from the dead?

No, I've noticed the trend in other movies as well. But if we're going to talk about superhero comics, there seems to be significantly more stories in-between comic book deaths and resurrections which can help in making them feel somewhat consequential.

Uh, no. Your post is rewriting history. Spider-Man 3 was shit on by fans when it released. It's a terrible movie. ASM2 managed to be even worse, of course.

Also, your RottenTomaotes argument is a bit silly. It's barely fresh at 63%, which was a drop from Spider-Man 2's 94%.

(Also, no. Spider-Man 3.1, a version of the movie that was released 10 years later, does not "fix half the problems." It's still a bad movie.)

It was one movie that happened after Raimi made the best Superhero movie ever, it wasn't some pattern, Marvel made IM2, IM3, Thor, Thor 2, and Avengers 2, all were shit as well. And I happen to like SM3 more than those (except for Thor 1).

The ASM franchise was a waste of everyone's time.

My hot take: Spider-man 3 isn't a great film, but it's not a bad one either. It's disappointing because it's inconsistent, overstuffed, and underdeveloped compared to its predecessors and so much of it was studio-mandated (such as cramming Venom in against Raimi's wishes).

But Spider-man 3 also has some great moments too, some of the franchise's best I'd even say. The birth of Sandman is perfection. The black suit and the way they did the symbiote was excellent and the church scene is phenomenal. Several performances are quite solid and the action is really great (especially the initial Sandman fight).

It's easily the weakest of the three, and it does barely skirt the edge of "Fresh" for me too, and there are PLENTY of scenes I hate, but it also has many great moments. It's horribly inconsistent, but much of the hate is definitely overblown. Spider-man 3 is disappointingly average, and compared to its top-tier predecessors for many that might as well be garbage.

Oh yeah. It's not like an old property could gain new fans or anything...heavens no. Also they had someone who knew the character as the director too, it would be solid.

Nobody is interested in Popeye in 2017 just like no one is interested in Smurfs in 2017. Genndy would have been wasting his talents on this project just like with Hotel Transylvania 2.

Absolutely insane how much was cut and changed in the ASM movies.

The original Thor was actually fairly well received overall when it came out. It's a better movie than Spider-Man 3. And I think Iron Man 3 is great, so, no. But IM3 is simply a divisive movie. Calling it "shit" just isn't true.

And no, Avengers 2 isn't "shit." It was disappointing, It had a number of issues. It wasn't a disaster like Spider-Man 3 or ASM2 that have multiple scenes so bad it becomes funny to watch because of it.

I can't believe there are Spider-Man 3 defenders at this point. I was in denial too when it came out, being such a huge Spider-Man fan,

Upon rewatching Spider-Man 3 and then 3.1...SM3 wasn't as bad as I remembered. And 3.1 makes the movie quite a bit better. It went from a 70-ish movie, to an 80-ish movie.

If they cut out the overly cheesy emo-Parker and dancing Parker scenes (including the piano and dance scene at MJ's job) it would have been high 80s to me. SM3 was/is fixable - it just needs some pointless fluff cut out.

Amazing 1 and 2 were simply shit. Nothing could save those two.

While this is indeed stupid, I feel compelled to comment on the "typical comic book" comments.

I mean, yeah, that's typical for superhero comics. The outlandish plots and secret twin/body double twists straight out of a soap opera. But just like film, television, and literature, there are lot of different genres of comic books, and they don't look or read like superhero books. The "lol, comics," brigade need to at least understand that "comics" is not a singular genre, or style, but a diverse medium that covers a ton of styles and genres.

Anyway, Sony producers are fucking stupid, and have no idea what to do with Spider-Man. Homecoming was a delightful movie, and I hope they don't fuck this up somehow. They have a character with 50-60 years of history and stories to mine, and they pull this crap. It really shouldn't be this hard to adapt a superhero to the big screen. Especially one as well loved as Spider-Man.

At least you can talk. Who are you?
Reminder that according to the leaked emails Emma Stone was going to play Mary Jane.... after playing Gwen in the previous two movies.

Sony Pictures lmfao

Is this true? I thought I remembered that a discussion was had to bring Gwen back to life as well.
