Saw this at midnight, absolutely loved it. I thought Garfield knocked it out of the park as Spider Man. I'm gonna have to watch the original again but I felt I liked this one more.

Man, she looks so damn adorable in this movie. I mean, it was almost painful to watch *sheds a tear* I lub her.

Glad I wasn't the only one. I've gone the last couple years with little interest in romance, and then I watched this and got pangs man.

All I want is a lead into venom that actually makes sense and works.

Not having Venom play a big role in the films we have got thus far always seemed so odd to me. Since it's basically the equivalent of ignoring the joker in the batman films.

Really hoping Amazing Spiderman sequels can resolve that.
It already sounds like they are leaning that way, which is a good thing.

The Green Goblin is Spider-Man's Joker. And I like Venom, but I don't want to see him anywhere near this series. I kind of want to see some of the Sinister Six (if not all of them) team up but that'd be too hard to set up.

Garfield and Stone were just fantastic together. The chemistry they have is the heart of the movie. Garfield also conveys his emotions so much more sincerely than Tobey ever did. I found this movie to be far more emotionally involving than any of Raimi's films.

It really felt like seeing Spidey on the screen for the first time, that's how perfectly Garfield and Webb nailed the character. Action was fantastic as well, the battle in the school was just the perfect visual recreation of how Spider-Man fights.

My one major gripe with the film is that it doesn't find its footing until a good 25 minutes in I think. The beginning could have been done better. But other than that, Gwen and Peter's relationship is a total homerun, the Lizard character is pretty faithfully brought to the life, the action and swinging through NYC is stunning. Garfield and Stone alone are enough for me to rank this over any of Raimi's movies, but the visual flair, choreography and action help too.

Oh, that final shot. :D

Yeah, that was fantastic.

Also liked how
Flash wasn't an asshole to Peter after uncle Ben's death
.

Yeah, he was
trying to be a bro. Peter threw him up against a locker, but like, Flash forgave him for even that. That was a cool thing to do

2>1>Amazing>>>>3

A good movie, with a clumsy first half and an uninteresting villain, with a generic scheme. Garfield did well though. Liked the action. Liked Spidey's personality. Hated that so much of Raimi's movie was repeated though.

Anyone know who played
(who I assumed is) Osbourne in the credits stinger
? I swear it looked/sounded like
Tom Waits. Tom Waits playing Norman Osbourne would be the most amazing thing ever.

Oh yeah, the film is really funny too. Peter's first morning after getting bit was a damn laugh riot in the theaters lol

I loved every second of the movie.

I hated every second in the cinema with its little seats. My kneecaps killed me after the movie.

Everyone who is on the fence should absolutely watch the movie. I can see that some might not like the one or the other scene but I really enjoyed everything from the movie. Even the lizard didn't look as stupid as I thought he would.

Yeah the big improvement this movie has above the others is the speed, momentum, of Spidey and the effects. The fight between
Spider-man and Lizard in the highschool was just super fast paced, super comic-bookey awesomeness

Though, I can't help but shake the feeling that this movie seemed cheaper than the Raimi movies. There was something more big budgety, hollywood epic about the Raimi films.

At the end
when the teacher said something about breaking promises and Peter said "those are the best ones", that was so fucking cheesy, but it made me grin. Gah

Funniest out of nowhere thing was his roid rage when he woke up and
slammed his fist on his alarm clock to shut it up.

Overall I loved the shit out of this movie, I really want to see it again.

Liked this more than Raimi's first movie, which I thought was dull and forgettable like X-Men 1 was. I do think Spider-Man 2 is better overall but Webb could surpass it in the sequel after seeing the potential in this movie.

Best part <3

I was totally expecting it to end
on them parting ways
, but that last part totally made the ending for me

Yeah totally. That bit at the end
on his porch totally downed me hard.
But then...bam, ending made.

The thing about this movie that I'm most looking forward to is not having to see Tobey's face.

I had the exact same feeling. I'm not sure WHY, either, I can't place it, but something felt like this one had a lower budget. Maybe it was the re-using of a lot of sets that subconsciously makes it feel cheaper? The camera panned through the same sewer many times.

Wow this movie was amazing. Garfield and the cast were great. Emma Stone is so damn adorable.

I had a lot fun watching this movie and Marc Webb did a fantastic job. I had my doubts about the guy when he got selected but man hope he stays on for the sequels. It really surprised me on how well done certain scenes were on it's comedic timing. It had some issues (ill go over in another post) but overall loved it.

I also got a sweet poster reserved for the IMAX people ;) and I didn't pay for IMAX lol.

Just got out of the midnight release and wow that was sooo much better then I was expecting. This movie is exactly how I imagined Spider-Man to be. Such good fun to be had here.

Now I'm starting to get the feeling that good word of mouth will drive this to $350m domestic as a lot of doubters are being converted, even Sculli!

Mostly fucking awesome. The more I think about it, the more I liked it. I think it comes down to the fact that I love Spider-Man. I love his powers, his agility, his creativity in combat, everything, and they captured it so well. I might even say better than The Avengers, though that's not that hard.

Obviously some weak parts, especially the beginning. Way too much high school stuff. Could have condensed the first 40 minutes into 20 and I wouldn't have minded, especially to show more sweet Spidey action.

And Emma Stone is the fucking best.

I LOVED this movie. The Spidey costume, the fight squences, emma stone, the way spidey moves, emma stone among other things. Emma stone was great too. Although, I don't understand why
UNCLE BEN didn't say "With great power comes great responsibility".
Man, what a fantastic ride that movie was.

That part was so awkward in the movie. They wanted to get the same message across, but didn't want to use the same quote, so it was just like a rambling series of words until he said the word responsibility.

Pretty meh, I thought. The leads were good (especially Emma Stone), I loved the fluidity of Spidey, and a couple of moments were very funny (
the alarm clock was really hilarious
). But it was really derivative of Raimi's first in so many ways, and almost all of these were not done as well. The best example of this is Curt Connors, who is a complete shadow of Osborn (I also was not a fan of the Lizard's design).

Another thing that well and truly bugged me was the handling of
Uncle Ben's death.
It's supposed to be this huge emotional paradigm shift for Peter, and it just doesn't isn't. I don't even think it's a case of this moment being stuffed in with other angst-y plot lines, but the placement. He's still an asshole after it. This is actually one place where the film doesn't copy the first, and it honestly should have followed that template in this case, which is kind of funny.

I will give this credit for the ending, though.
Peter getting the girl was the right thing to do here. Thank god we won't have to deal with that angst in the sequel.

All in all, I did enjoy some of it largely because of the strength of leads and their chemistry... It probably shouldn't have tried to be another origin story, and then do mostly the same damn things as the first origin story.

Oh, and the post-credit (or in this case, mid-credit) sequence was really fucking awful, as far as these go.

I agree with this. I also found it funny how they tried to retool the line "With great power comes great responsibility", the one they came up with was stupid.

The other stuff you pointed out, I don't agree with. I liked the lizards design and Rhys Ifans freaking rocked the role; I would say he was better then Willem Dafoe's Osborn.

It was pretty enjoyable with the first half for me being the best. For some reason I really enjoy Spider-Man's origin in High School. It helps when you get good actors to play these parts too. For some there is probably too much of this, but it worked for me. The villain started interesting, but got boring once
he really became the villain
. But boy were the night shots pretty. I hated the films cheesy version of the "Fuck yeah we're New Yorkers!" scene from the first film. Loved the humor, but wish there was more Spidey talking shit. That one scene with the
car-jacker
made such good use of it. Also
last line by Peter in the classroom with Gwen's smile made the whole "on again off again" downer work.

Spider-Man: B+
Spider-Man 2: A
Spider-Man 3: C-
Amazing Spider-Man: B

I agree with you here.
I was hoping for the big "holy shit the [insert villain here]" moment. I'm still excited for a sequel but they missed the cherry on top in my opinion.

Ehh, I don't know, what bugged me about it was the face. I'm certain I would have preferred it if he had a more reptilian snout. They were trying to show off the human elements of him, I get that, but it made me think of the goombas from the Super Mario Bros movie.

Also, I think I would agree that he did a better job than Dafoe (because he really teetered on the edge of scenery chewing cheesiness more often than not), but his character was still needlessly derivative
right down to him hearing voices.

Yeah, the voices felt off. Felt too much like Osborn style.

I think the best part of the movie is the way Spider-man moves and fights. Its so much more fluid and dynamic than any other comic movie I've ever seen. Looks very natural. At points he's literally scurrying about like an actual spider. He also gets very creative with the web shooters. I really liked that.

So excited to see this one with my girlfriend tonight. I have been hyped ever since the announcement. It's my current favorite actor (Andrew Garfield), my favorite actress (Emma Stone, alongside Ellen Page and Natalie Portmann) and from the director who made my favorite movie of its year (Marc Webb).

I really hope for a Spider-Man with more focus on the characters, emotions and the romantic side, I want more of that. The movie really seem to cater toward me. I'm SO EXCITED! And I got ticket right in the middle which have sofas, no chairs in front and the largest cinema in Copenhagen at a premiere. I can not wait.

Going with the wife tonight to see this in 3D. Really excited now after reading these impressions from gafers who saw it at midnight! Should be a great start to the 4th.

I thought this was great. The first hour had a bit of pacing issues but the screenplay and Garfield nailed Spider-Man. I'm so pleased! I really enjoyed the Raimi movies at the time but it's Tobey's performance that I have issue with in repeat performances. This is a much improved take on the character and the movie benefits from it.

Gwen Stacey is written as a more capable female lead which is a breath of fresh air after MJ played Damsel in Distress for three straight movies. I hope we see Webb's take on MJ in the sequel. Mary Elizabeth Winstead please.

The relationships were definitely one of the biggest highlights of the film.
