The American remake of "The Office" is an atrocity.

Never before have I seen such a pitiful waste of television time. Repeating the same exact jokes with a less funny version of David Brent was a silly thing to do. What they should have done was used the formula and made their own jokes. This should and probably will fail.

If anyone is remotely interested in this and hasn't seen the british version, don't bother, go and find the british one, download it or something.

If the british office is a 10, this show is a 3 at best. Our entire house quit watching within 10 minutes. I don't usually get emotional about tv shows, but watching The office be put through the shit wringer actually pissed me off. I can't believe Ricky Gervais oversaw this.

Uh, I'm pretty sure only the first episode used/is using the British script.

I do think the British version is leagues ahead of the US one but if the US does original scripts it could grow on it's own as a respectable show...

the episode that aired yesterday was pretty funny.

I've only seen the pilot, what happened in the second episode, was it an exact duplicate of the second real office episode? If so, can someone who has seen both confirm that it sucked harder than the british one? The british one was perfect, can't believe they are knocking it off so badly.

EDIT:

If the rest of the show isn't a straight ripoff, I will check out the second episode, that main guy made me laugh pretty hard in anchorman. There is no way they can pull off the dance scene though and shouldn't try. The setup looks the same for the merger etc though, so I'm still going with "It sucks"

who me? what? The remake is just crap based off the pilot.

Well, seeing as my local paper happens to be the Scranton times, they've been talking about the show for weeks. Apparently by the third episode is when the American scripts and influences start to take over. The first one or two were to get their feet wet. I've never seen the original show but as for these first two episodes, the first one blew dead dogs and the second one was better.

That's what i mean, the first episode of the real office was fucking insane funny, the remake has the exact same jokes, except murdered.

I rather like it. =/ It's nothing too special, but I enjoyed watching the first two episodes and plan to tune in again next week!

I missed the second ep (shit!) but the first one had my laughing my ass off, pardon me if I hadn't seen the british series before.
I enjoyed it.

I haven't seen the British version.

The first episode was alright. It had some pretty funny moments, but it wasn't great. Something didn't quite click for me.

The second episode however, I thought was pretty damned funny.

Conclusion:
Show written for actual actors/characters >>> show written for other actors/characters

Considering all future scripts are supposedly written specifically for the American version, I don't see much reason to really worry.

If this is actually true, then I'll give it a shot. The first one was excruciating though. Who is writing them?

Also, check out the British office, it's comedy GOLD

I actually hope that the show succeeds, just because I've got mad props for Steve Carrel and that entire Daily Show staff.

Just saw the second episode and that was some funny stuff, a whole lot better than the first. The abraham lincoln bit was great, as was Steve Carell impersonating Chris Rock :lol

The first episode left me feeling indifferent. Never seen the British original though. The second episode was much much better. Steve Carell is just genius. This show has a shot at working it's way into my must-see comedy viewing rotation alongside Arrested Development and Scrubs.

So let me get this right, you start a thread bashing a show, because it copied the pilot of the same British Version, and you thought it sucked? Am I right? Ok good, wanted to make sure , because you just wasted everyone's time by making yourself look like an ASS!!

If you took the time to research anything, you would have known that NBC used the original British pilot script for their pilot, so that they could introduce all the characters to the US market. Once they did that, all new episodes would be completely new material, like last nights show, but oh, you didnt see it. So you wouldnt have known.

How about you do us all a favor, and dont waste space on this forum, or our time, with half assed assumptions about a show you watched once. Mmmmmk.

Thanks for playing, we have some lovely parting gifts for ya.

Oh and with Coupling, yeah it sucked, but it was destined to. I mean hell the British version was basically Friends but for the UK audience, so lets see.. the UK takes the Friends idea, and makes COupling, then NBC takes Coupling and brings it here, while Friends is still on the air, see where Im going with this? NBC was essentially trying to show Friends 2x a night, once as "Friends" and once as "Coupling"

If you bothered to look at the credits, for the pilot, the teleplay was obviously Ricky Gervais, and he is also listed as an Exec. Producer for the US version.

It's really, really difficult to not compare this show to the original. The actors are obviously not as good, and the jokes not as subtle, but still the second episode was pretty good. Based on it I'd say this series is better than, say, Friends or Arrested Development...

I'm a HUGE fan of the UK Original, and I thought yesterday's episode was HILARIOUS. Sure, the pilot was pretty weak, but the second episode was great. Even just for the "colored greens" line!

Don't be an elitist without doing your research, catfish. You've made yourself out as an idiot.

You are all stupid.

The pilot of the Office (US) sucked a bit hairy nut.

Don't tell catfish that he is wrong, because he is not. To say "Oh but it gets better, douche" is also fucking stupid, because he was critiquing the first episode.

Who gives a flying fuck if it gets better. US remakes of good brittish comedys are stupid, and belong to the realm of either unoriginal US studios, or the stupid american public. Both of which go hand in hand in fact, and further work to dumb down your dumb society.

Go fuck yourselves.

aparisi go and fuck right off you tosser.

I know Ricky Gervais is tied with this which is why I watched it, what I didn't realise was that they would actually use the same jokes and script, which was a bad idea and absolutely fell a mile short in every way.

If you bothered to look at the credits, for the pilot, the teleplay was obviously Ricky Gervais, and he is also listed as an Exec. Producer for the US version

I know who wrote the pilot you total ass I have seen and own the original good version on dvd and watched it plenty. So who is writing the new episodes? Your quote means shit, unless Executive producer means writer, which I wasn't aware of. And fuck, I already said if they are new material I will give them a chance. Doesn't mean the pilot wasn't balls. Because it was balls. If the second one is good, then good, I want this show to be good, I love the office and want more, especially if its got ricky gervais' blessing, what I don't want, is the same thing done worse. The second one wasn't available for download when I made this thread.

Wow you are so articulate and soft spoken with your words. it still doesnt change the fact that you came on here, made a post, and came off like a total Jackass. You want to compare a British series with a US one, fine, you have the right to do that, but at least fucking educate yourself before you try to come off as someone who knows what they are talking about. You come in here and bitch about how bad the pilot was, then you freak out because you never watched the 2nd episode which was hysterical. You didnt know that they used the same script or jokes for the US pilot as the British pilot, which was well known to everyone, because the producers of the show said it on just about every entertainment program that is out. Like I said before, you came off like an ignorant ass, and I still think your an ass. If you dont like the US office, thats great, it doesnt care what a lowly peon like you thinks. Its doing well in the ratings, and that is all they care about. Now before you reply back to me, just know, I dont care. I dont care about you, or what you have to say, or what names you are going to call me. Just know you are an uninformed assbag, who really should do some research first before making an ass out of himself. All it would have taken was 5mins and you could have saved yourself all this grief.

Again, thanks for playing, we have some lovely parting gifts for you.

Jesus Aparisi, have i offended america or something? Since when is a direct remake of an episode not worthy to be compared to it's original? Fuck I don't even care about the second episode. Or the rest of the series, I'm not american, I don't get all your entertainment channels and I don't watch TV 24/7, the first one was an atrocity and I stand by that. I don't need to do "background research" to determine whether or not a 30 minute tv show was bad.

And you obviously do care, you seem upset. You're not one of the actors are you?

Again, thanks for playing, we have some lovely parting gifts for you

And your final line is as always awesome. I can even picture you high fiving whoever you made watch you post while you ZING ME GOOD. :lol

The second episode of the Office will be airing on the USA network at 6:30. Give it a chance, it's a huge improvement.

Did NBC not broadcast either episode in letterbox format for anybody else? It's rather annoying, NBC does that with all of their shows here. You can tell when a show was supposed to be in widescreen because the NBC logo is only half in view.

I'll give the second episode a shot, I think the main guy was funny as hell in everything I have seen him in bar the pilot, so if it's original i'll look into it, I already stated that before aparisi came in here and stank up this thread worse than the pilot stank up my living room.

If the second ep is good, I'll repost singing it's praises. Any fans of the original comment on how it follows the plot of the first one? I mean, the jokes maybe new, but in the pilot there is the merger etc etc.
