The Americans - S4 of the KGB spy drama - Keri Russell & Matthew Rhys - Wed on FX

Shit man that was an amazing ending and amazing final shot.

Anyone get a read on Elizabeth there at the end? I honestly couldn't tell what she was looking at...or what she was thinking when she was watching phillip get paige.

I think she was just concerned watching Philip go over to the FBI man's house after their day, and she saw how upset Philip was as they were walking back and could intuit trouble.

was perfect. William is right that they are lucky but he isn't right that it's sunshine and rainbows. The american dream is a facade.
It almost turned into a horror movie at the end. So damn good.

Gonna have to gather my full thoughts, but I thought this season was fantastic and they have set up some crazy shit going into the home stretch.

The season finales of this show never cease to amaze me. They are so confident in the storytelling. Not only confident, but respectful of the audience as well. The best season yet. The tension in seasons 5/6 will be almost unbearable.

good read, link to the post mortem: http://www.avclub.com/article/how-americans-showrunners-brought-their-fourth-sea-237747

So good man. Not even sure what else I want to say. Just want next season. I have a lot of thoughts but really I just want them to escape to russia safely or something just when stan finds out. I don't think I can stand to watch that cat and mouse. Would be great if Phillip and the family just straight disappeared and then Stan put it together and then the series closes then or soon after.

Ahhhhh.

Wow, that's a lot of cast departing. :(

Intriguing setup for next season. Loved the soundtrack as they were walking back towards the house.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

Why do I have to wait another year for this? I want more!!!!

Such a good finale, this might be the best season yet. Holy shit wow.

If they were ever discovered, wouldn't it be pretty embarrassing for both Stan and the whole department? Seems like the kind of thing that could get him transferred to a broom closet.

Anyone else get the sense that Arkady is mulling about defecting? That look he gave the Stalin (?) statue...

I loved the finale and it was brilliant, but also underscored my single criticism of the show - they are totally unwilling to move the story forward very much for the two main characters. The side characters are all over the place, but Philip and Elizabeth are in many ways the same place they were in episode 1, just a lot more backstory and baggage.

Lol, Stan cracked me up with how giddy he was about them making out on the couch.

It was so good. Someone needs to .gif this scene.

Hey, that was a nice transition from the Jennings' to Paige & Matt date using the televisio—

Oh my god, this shot is great. Got caught. Fuckin' Stan, so giddy. Using them quadrants with him basically re-enacting his dinnertime.gif back there.

Good finale. Didn't end on so bad a cliffhanger this time. Lots of really good dialogue. "I wish I could've been like them... [...] She's pretty... he's lucky..."

Well, I appreciate there being no painful cliffhanger.

On the other hand I'm also somewhat disappointed by the lack of thriller stuff this season and in this finale.

I was expecting a stronger payoff episode rather than just a lot of preparation for the next season.

It's become this slow character study. Which it always has been to some extent but not entirely.

I give this season a StillTheBestShowOnTv/10

Going to be great when Mikhail finds Phillip. That will be so weird.
Can't wait for the inevitable awkward dinner table scene!

Also goddamn the last shot was insane. Like damn the Jennings' home looked terrifying. The music certainly didn't help anyway.

And yeah Paige is in an interesting place. Like she wants to do it almost, but her parents are trying to steer her away. Asking her mom for self defense training. And I dunno but from how her conversation went with Matt it really seemed like she was mostly just trying to get close to him to learn more about what Stan is up to more than anything.

Yep, so my Americans recording was a 20 minute infomercial with Regis from 5am. Thanks, Directv!

Should've checked GAF today.

The finale was good but kind of anti-climactic, absolutely amazing acting by Baker though. I realize this is probably due to the budget getting slashed this season, but I miss the espionage and action stuff the first 3 seasons did so well. The character work here was as good as ever but the focus on the family drama and Paige made it my least favorite season so far.

Paige is slowly but surely coming around. It's clear from the last scene that Phillip doesn't want Paige caught up in the shit he's had to deal with over the years, especially with how badly it ended with Martha. Y'all notice how William describes the thrill of being a spy at first and how that's being paralleled with Paige's new found intrigue in being a spy? Both William and Phillip describe how fun being spy is because of youthful ignorance but then they slowly start to detest the work that they do.

Well that was a great finale to a great season. This show is just the greatest aye. Loved the choice for Leonard Cohen by the way.
