Eurogamer put up an article talking about the pacing of the game, saying that there are long stretches that are barely interactive in the traditional video game sense. They were pointing out how these sections actually helped the game because of the quality of the writing and how they positively impacted the game's pacing, and how these sections may have helped to make the general gaming public more open to "walking simulator" type of games, like Dear Esther or Firewatch, that are 90% story with light gameplay.
They even quoted one of the game's creators talking about how he played The Graveyard, and how he was fascinated by how it was just about giving you this quiet mood, and how that helped inspire a quiet section of Uncharted 2.
So Eurogamer put up an article about how Uncharted was similar to these games, calling it a "walking simulator in an action game's clothing." They weren't even criticizing the game. They were trying to give it credit for its quieter moments.
So a ton of dumb people came in, looked at the title, and decided to shitpost about how the article is clickbait and Eurogamer is trash, clearly without ever looking at the actual article they were complaining about.
Bans ensued.

Honestly, Uncharted 4 is just super boring to me so far. I even dozed off for a sec during a cutscene. I found Uncharted 3 to be boring because it felt like I was playing a clone of 2. I was halfway through Uncharted 2 before I started enjoying it.
I think part of the problem is that I don't enjoy the automated platforming. Sometimes firefights feel good and intense, but other times they seem to just drag on. Plus, I don't feel like the games are anything special mechanically. The set pieces haven't done anything for me since Uncharted 2.

I'm kinda disgusted by the desperate push by some people to write off slavery as something that "sucked but it happened so long ago guys" as though it had zero. I've seen it too many times to be comfortable in that reparations thread. Like, literally no other historical event is treated like that. No one says, "Well the Wright Bros. did make a pretty important contribution to mechanical flight but we're so far beyond that these days, there's really no need to talk about their impact any more."

The criticism on speaking xhosa was a bad one since while wakanda is a fictional language, they speak several in the country being that wakanda isn't one monolithic tribe

It's a great game. No reason to let some gamers on some fuck shit take away from your enjoyment. I often reflect on how I came here for gamingside years ago. Now I find myself more and more disillusioned with gamers in general.

While the UC4 thread had some crazy moments, it had nothing on the UC3 review thread. Just ND fans whipping themselves up into a frenzy because a few sites were not effusive enough with their praise.
I will say I think they've sacrificed a lot of the arcade-like nature, tightness, and simplicity that the second game perfected for the sake of the story and pacing. It's a good story and it's paced well for a game you'll play once, but a good chunk of the first half of the game is very slow paced, and I think that's going to hurt subsequent playthroughs.
I still get ptsd about that thread when I talk to ND fanboys about any criticism.
The dumb thing is they are raging against an article that is positive on the game because the troll OP decided to use a tweet for his thread title and no one is reading beyond that.

Meme aside, I don't think the OP had a clue. Real talk, he saw the first sentence in the article (only part he bolded, lol).
The article is about Uncharted being mostly a safe action adventure game but it likes to deep dive into quiet moments that explore the characters, show off the environments, and sell the mood.. and the game is better for it.
With that in mind here is the only part of that article that the OP bolded:
He then refuses to process the rest of it which is really positive on the game. While making the thread he tried to make it look as bad as he could, which is why he likely chose to quote a tweet for the thread title instead of the actual article title.
Queue 20+ (now banned) people who only read the thread title, enter defensive reaction mode, and then claim that the entire thing is clickbait without having read any of the actual article.
I'm digging it as well. It's problems are somehow amplified by how immaculate their presentation is which is a bit odd. They've made a ton of strides in many directions and very few in others. Still, it's pretty fantastic.
I don't bother to go into Gaming side unless I'm just looking for information. Never with the intention of engaging anyone, and when I do I often regret it.
Basically. I'm willing to give it a shot since I did enjoy part of UC2.
But I'm definitely not on this Naughty God train thats been going because of Uncharted and TLoU at this point.
