Getting the digital Mass effect preorder on Tuesday. Gonna get the deluxe. Might as well.
I wanna act like Metacritic and shit literally never matters, but I won't lie, ain't exactly pressed to spend money/time on games I'm unfamiliar with that score less than 80 unless it already appealed to me right off the bat, or fills a specific niche I'm looking for. Then there's stuff like the first Nier, which gets all the good word-of-mouth that you can't help but check it out. But generally speaking, time and money is precious.
As for your post, yea. For some, enjoying a game and/or wanting to recommend that game to others becomes more difficult if it scored "poorly". It's dumb, but not completely alien to me.
They're both on the list of games to pick up (along with Halo Wars 2, KH 1.5 + 2.5, and Breath of the Wild when I get a Switch) but I feel no rush to play them. It's not like the first time I saw Vanquish where I said "I need to play this right now" and searched several different Gamestops before I found one that still had a copy.

I honestly just buy what I want day 1 and wait for sales on things I'm mildly interested in. Metacritic be damned

Any Japanese game or game with minority protagonist gets a day 1 from me if I can afford it. Gotta support
Why should you take the word of someone named "Angry Whatever" as some kind of gospel.
If I decided on getting a game, reviews only determine the "when". I can derive enjoyment from anything; it's just a question of setting realistic expectations. For example, Oneechanbara is going to get the "look at this fuckshit" type of "i'm laughing at you" enjoyment, while Mass Effect is a "I'm so engaged, look at all this polish" type of "what a fantastic game this is" type of enjoyment. That's the reason I was so upset with Valkyrie Drive: I was expecting a cheesecake game with an interesting story that has smooth gameplay and I only got a cheesecake game with an interesting story that is completely fucking broken in places. I can enjoy something that's dumb on the merits of it being dumb, so long as I expect it to be dumb. It's also why I can like MGS and Kingdom Hearts and still acknowledge that the story is utter bullshit asspullery.
Growing up as black kid in the 90's who mainly depended on parents for purchases has instilled a desire to appreciate any game that I've bought.
Also this theme sounds like a Xenoblade X boss battle
Also why FFXIII is my favorite Final Fantasy (haven't played XV) and Xeno is my favorite franchise: by meeting them at their level I get the most enjoyment playing those particular games.

thanks for the reminder, i've been bummed all month that there was no word of it playing here, but it looks like it arrived this weekend
My thing basically is that if it isn't preordered already, then I'm clearly not that pressed about it. Nier, Zelda, Persona? I'm pressed.
Stuff like Dishonored 2, Nioh, Horizon, etc.? I have some interest in, but I'mma use the reviews whether or not I should consider taking the plunge and getting it. And by the time I actually go through with that, it's usually already on sale.

Caught in a dilemma with a job situation. Had two interviews last week. One was in a job out of town, but it only pays $9 an hour and I only work 20 hours per week. It'll take me two hours and some change to get their everyday plus I have to pay for the bus going and back everyday. Manager their said I was her best candidate, but I need to go through a second interview that she'll let me know about on Tuesday.
Got two more interviews this week. I talked to one on Friday I think and they said they would email me the address of their campus. Checked this morning and it's in South Carolina, but pays $43,000 a year. I doubt my mom will drive all the way down there though. I got another one that's with an insurance company I applied before, but didn't get. Mom is off this week, but I think if she finds out it's the same place she's going to throw a fit.
I also got another phone interview with some insurance company. Not sure what to do.
