Tracking a bounty is the least Boba could have done. It's also something you could probably do.
So congratulations to Boba Fett for being competent at one aspect of his job, and shame be to the other bounty hunters for being incompetent.
It really and truly makes up for shooting a rope at a Jedi before getting killed by a blind guy with a stick.

Boba Fett haters buying into those Rebellion lies. The Fett was seconds away from disintegrating the terrorist scum Luke Skywalker when that cowardly dog Han Solo got him with a lucky cheap shot. Yes. A cheap shot. That's what we call it when a lowly rebel Bantha dung hits you in the back, instead of facing you like a man. If it weren't for that Skywalker would have been kicking it with Ben Kenobi, Solo would be getting digested in the Sarlacc Pit like he deserved and the Fett man would be rocking even more Wookie hair braids on his boss ass armor.

AotC I can give that, but the RotJ fight felt more like clumsiness and shortsightedness.

He does fucking nothing in the movies besides look cool, and all the badassery in the EU was them making up for his cool design but lack of anything else

I do like that no story has ever elaborated on the time Boba Fett apparently disintegrated someone Vader wanted alive (at least, someone important enough for Vader to have heard about it). There's no version of that conversation that can be written that would be funnier than what you imagine.
I always chose to believe an armored, armed bounty hunter with a rocket pack could have escaped the gullet of the sarlacc.
About ig-88, I saw clone wars eps with similar model robots - were they ig88 assassin droids? So that's still canon. But Empire's Ugnought scene made me think it was the bounty hunter Droid who was also looking for Solo. Simple as that.

I believe those were IG-86 in the Clone Wars. IG-88 was based on them, but developed its own personality.

When I watched the movies as a kid, I really never thought much of him.
The Clone Troopers were Jango clones, but they were phased out for recruits as they grew older thanks to their accelerated aging. By the time of A New Hope, most or all of the Stormtroopers are recruits.
The Clone Troopers are actually pretty badass, and Jango was quite capable onscreen. So Boba can't really blame his genetics for his ineptitude.
