I've had a Tesla Model Y for a few years now and honestly, I'm spoiled. Full Self-Driving (still technically in development) has gotten really good. Long road trips are a breeze, I barely touch the wheel, just watch the road and chat with passengers. Smart Summon is another game changer; I love using it when it's raining so the car comes to pick me up right at the front of the liquor store.
I've got a home charger set to run during off-peak hours, so every morning it's topped off and ready to go. My electric bill only went up about $50 a month (my commute is only 9 miles). Maintenance? Basically none. After five years, all I've had to think about are tires, windshield wipers, washer fluid, and air filters. The brakes still look new because regenerative braking barely wears them out. The 12V battery will eventually need replacing, but that's like every 5–6 years.
Meanwhile, my wife's 2016 Honda Civic (she loves) has been way more demanding and expensive to maintain. Gas, oil changes, timing belt, an alternator replacement, an oxygen sensor, and multiple brake jobs (she thinks she's a fucking NASCAR driver). Sweet and reliable car, but compared to the Tesla, it's a lot more hands-on and costly to keep happy (like my wife compared to my side chick).
