Just saw this. Looks awesome very tasteful mods. Mine is bog standard and needs a wash! For £2000 you really cannot go wrong, It's only really rust that kills them.

Looked up the plate but cant find it anymore so its either totaled or exported. Its been 7-8 years now I think... Nice blue one!

I shared last month on GAF that my car (a Kia Forte I'd liked quite a bit) had been smashed in by a... drunk driver? Unmedicated senior citizen? I never did find out how or why that dude managed to swerve into my car on a straight road (post-snow, but the road was dry).

Anyway, my car was declared totaled, so I spent a while searching for something new. I really wanted a Lucid Air but ultimately decided to play things a bit more frugally for the time being, so I did what can never go wrong. I bought a Mazda! Specifically, a Mazda3 Hatchback. I got this one at a steal imo - She has barely 27k miles on her but I got her for a little over $21k USD. The equivalent new car, at the Premium trim level I bought, sells for around $35k after taxes and fees.

Pictures, ahoy!

Congrats! If I hadn't gone with the civic I would have likely gone with this. Love that red colour as well!

I had an older Mazda 3 and it was great. I was to blame for totalling it though.

The newer engines are better.

That Tales of Vesperia merch in the trunk!
Clean car.

So I've heard. Looking at the specs the 4th gens have a fair bit more power (not just the turbo version either). I'd heard some complaints about reduced storage this gen but I was able to fit my bike into the trunk without any disassembly! I had a tough enough time though that I'll probably just remove the front wheel next time.

What happened to your old car?

I've gotten a few remarks on the bag. Most think it's cute (rightly).

Was it manufactured in Japan? You can tell if the serial number starts with a J.

You leveled up significantly though. Mazda's are super reliable cars. My Mazda 2 2013 has never broken down, ever. All the work Ive done on the car has been maintenance the 12 years I've owned it. The engine, transmission, and other essentials components are solid. Follow the owners manual, get regular oil changes, pay it off, and drive it forever. Only thing I've disobeyed on the owners manual is changing my transmission fluid at 60k miles. You literally can't go wrong with doing that, just get it changed not flushed. Make sure you're using the same exact fluid you replace.

Turbo version?

my 294,000 mile honda prelude looking like his days are numbered. I got a warning light come on the dash to check the engine, mechanic guy said the engine is basically screwed from all angles, needs a bunch of money spending on it.

car is worth like maybe a thousand bucks at this point. I've owned this shit for 21 years this month, nigga I could cry for real. I dont know shit about cars or care about them but this car been my rock through the last 2 decades of shit yall. Im pissed

I hate spending money on shit like this, but I dont know if its worth rebuilding the engine for 2.5-3k vs just buying something else. FML

Check on Facebook, there's a ton of Honda mechanics floating around. Depending on what's wrong you can farm the parts yourself and have some dude just put it on.

Yeah, this is a Japan-manufactured car. I didn't realize that there's at least a perceived quality difference between cars manufactured in Japan and elsewhere and that people seem to thank the Japan-sourced cars undergo higher QA scrutiny. Cool, I guess.

Turbo version?

No, regular Premium trim, not Turbo Premium. I didn't want to drag out my search much longer, this looked like too good a deal to pass up, and an independent inspection I had performed day of purchase seemed to support this was in fact not too good to be true. The non-turbo charged engine still has plenty of power behind it though, and the car handles great and has (almost) all the high trim features I could want.
