The colors of this photo will appear different to everyone. I think?

This is exactly what they say about the brown being black.

And it doesn't look blue, it IS blue.

Ok so light blue and gold. I can accept light blue and gold.

But black? Surely something is broken there!

It's a black dress but perceiving it as merely black is people just being silly and stubborn.

There's obvious gold tint there and it is a yellow light shining on a black dress which makes it perceived as gold (same goes for the black and white dress in the bottom left corner that has a goldish-green slant to it).

Try seeing the image from bottom to top, like scrolling up. The first time it happened, I noticed the light blue getting bluer and bluer.

When I force it back to white and gold I look at the lace part, try not caring about it. Give it time and look at how non white the blue is. I'm waiting :D

It will look very black.

I saw it on a video before and it was blue and black. Now it's gold and white. What kind of wizardry is this?

Edit: Jesus christ 26 pages y'all crazy

Yah this a good thing to point out and something I noticed.

That still doesn't keep the black/white pattern on the dress in the back from having the gold tint (it actually becomes somewhat green) because of the lighting.

The top from the neck to the cleavage is actually see-through. That could be why it's more susceptible to color change in lighting. There is a very heavy yellow light being cast on the dress from one side but there is a subtle shift in color from looking right to left and top to bottom.

lol @ people saying that in the original pic it looks black. Its clearly gold with a darker tint at the edges and white. Although the white does have a slightly bluish tint.

the only picture it looks black/deep blue is this one:

Pretty interesting. I saw it as white/gold. Played some Candy Crush(don't judge) and when I came back it looked blue/black. This also reminds me. I had blinds in my old house that I and my daughter called light blue. My wife said they were white. /shrug

I think it's interesting that everyone looks from the top down when pointing out the colors especially for the gold/black. If you look at the bottom of the photo where there is less exposure you see more black than gold. Also look to the left of the photo you see some black and white cloth, probably another dress and you can compare the black.

Uhhh, there's no black in that image.

Is this supposed to be the "blue/black" version? It looks like a photo of a white/gold dress taken in the dark.

I honestly can not imagine how can someone see the gold/brown as black, the white/blue I kinda get it, the actual color in the area is a blueish grey and depending on the context of the photo you could see it as white or blue (the brain kinda correcting (white balance) the blueish tint into white due tho the brain processing the bad lighting of the photo because it has learned in the past that a photo can get the white in a colder or warmer tint)

Uhhh, there's no black in that image.

It's black only when you consider that the actual colors are black. What we're seeing is a dark dark dark green/gold mix in the back dress and the dress in question is primarily gold due to a very bright yellow light shining on a black dress.

This is actually more of a semantic argument than it is perception.

Sure but that doesn't change the fact that the black of the dress absorbs and reflects a dark muddy gold color. Yes it is black but we don't see it as black.

I have been in this thread for nearly 7 hours now. Probably a little longer.

Watching Cummunity on Netflix, waiting to go to Uni all tired.

This is like an awesome social experiment.

The image is magic.

It's all fun and games until it triggers World War III.

did this, fucked around with the brightness, moved my screen around, and in no world does that look close to black.

You are so wrong. People are actually seeing black. It's not a definition argument. Otherwise there is no way anyone would ever say white, it's definitely an illusion that we don't see blue and gold for all of us.

White Gold can agree that the white is kinda blue, but not that the gold can be black.

Blue Black can agree that the black can be gold, but not that the blue can be white.

White/Blue will change how saturated it is when you see something different. That's the magic.

If anything this makes me realize how truly alone we all are... living in our own universe, seeing colors completely differently from one another.......

yeah. it doesn't matter what it actually "is", because that's not what is being debated. Like white light and its components. You SEE white, even though its alot of other colors put together.

hahaha this I can use my imagination and it works, in my mind is the gold/white dress being illuminated with black light

So I have duplicated this effect and wonder if it works for others. I see white/gold. Then I played Candy Crush(maybe any bright colorful game or images will work) and then it looks blue/black. After posting/reading GAF(dark theme) for a bit it goes back to white/gold. Curious if this works for others.

I say semantic argument because when I say black I mean *black*. Lack of light or color. I can swap between either perception quite easily but the white will always have that blue slant to it and the "black" will always appear gold because of the light reflecting off of the dress.

Look at my old posts, I used to say the same thing as you.

And you changed your standpoint on it because...?

It's a blue/black dress. We can all agree on that, but seeing merely gold/white or black/blue is silly. It's a mix of both and you can waver on either depending on how you wish to perceive it.

edit: And by mix of both I mean, it's a dark and muddy gold color because of the distortion of light off of the black of the dress and the bright light muting the blue down to an almost white color.

all right after looking at it a lot and doing the only bottom half I can now understand and actually force me into somewhat see the blue and black, and as I imagined its just the eye/brain compensating for the horrible white balance and overexposed of the photo, and because all the yellow in the background makes you believe the brown/gold is actually black

What I see is white and gold.

What I see when I look closely at what I'm looking at, and isolate the colors from one another, is a very light blue and gold.

Yes I know the dress is factually primary blue and black in real life... but this picture itself is exposed to the point where I don't see how this picture contains primary blue and black. I cannot see that, I have never seen that. I do not see it. I DO NOT SEE IT.
