BURBANK, CA, January 19, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Christopher Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”
In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”
Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven.
“The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

If I hadn't seen this news mentioned on a blog I never would've known that this casting had happened. I don't check in on the Batman 3 thread every time I see it at the top of the page.

A good compromise would be changing the title of the mega thread, but right now it seems like "new major news -> new thread" is the way to go.

good compromise would be changing the title of the mega thread, but right now it seems like "new major news -> new thread" is the way to go.

Evil told me when I met him last year that mega threads take up didproportionatly more bandwidth. So the idea of New News -> New Thread is to save costs of GAF as well as keep relevant news from being burried in a long thread that only regulars check.

I'm with you man, I absolutely love that story arc. But I find it weird that the villain best known for the Knightfall story arc is brought in for the movie titled The Dark Knight Rises. And I don't think they could do the complete Knightfall/Knightquest/Knightsend arc in one film. But loving the story like I do I would happily take a 3-parter. Never happen in a million years, but one can dream.

He's already fallen. You want them to end the trilogy with Bruce breaking his back? Either they end the series with him replaced by Azrael, or they introduce Jean Paul Valley halfway into the movie, and it turns into Spider-Man 3.

You will have to have a shortended/simplified version of the arc. Cut Azreal out completely since it was never introduced.

Batman crippled in an early fight with Bane because he refuses Catwomans help and/or tries to take her down as well -> city is rampaged -> Bats learns sometimes he needs help and can't do it alone and realizes the world isn't just black and white -> Bats comes back with Catwomans help to save the city from Bane.

Throw in much better writers than me and you have something.

I wouldn't think they'd be setting her up for a future film since Nolan's done after this, but I'm thinking we won't see "Catwoman" as we've seen in the past. Maybe more like the way Scarecrow was handled in BB, the essence was there but he wasn't dressed in a scarecrow costume.

LOL pretty much. The man is fucking terrible at casting female leads. I think he fluked out with Cotillard with Inception. He probably wanted somebody else in that role.

They did the same thing with Dent. No one thought they were going to tackle Two-Face in the same film as Joker and they did. Masterfully.
