I feel sick! I just found out that the KOP IMAX is a LIEMAX!

Sounds like it was a former 15/70mm one, but it converted to a digital projector. The screen size is still big though, it's possible the theater might switch back to the legit IMAX projectors for this film, like DMZcaf's scenario in Vegas.

I hope I am wrong, but I have done some research and a lot of sites seem to think that is has had its projectors converted to digital. I saw TDK there many times and it looked beautiful! It was so big and so clear and at the time I think it was true 70mm. So I don't know how this supposed digital retro fit of the theater will affect TDKR. (I did think it was wierd that they did not show TDKR prologue in that theater since I was always under the impression that it was a "true" imax screen) So although I have tickets for the 12:01 show, I guess I will have to go to the Harrisburg theater to experience it the way it was intended at some point. "I got a fever!, And the only prescription!.... is real IMAX!

Im in the same boat. Converted but has the one star on IMAX.com
Idk what to do.
The screen and sound system are amazing. If you haven't been there, you are in for a treat. Different experience then regular cinema imaxes. I'm guessing they will switch it to regular for this.

Damnit, was going to buy tickets to the marathon but they're general admission, no imax/avx.

I guess it's just TKDR IMAX for me then.

Most recently converted Imax screens use dual projection systems. Basically, this means that while they project some films digitally, they're still capable of projecting 70mm film, as well.

All Cineplex theaters have recently gone this route, for example. On the website, they're advertised as being "100% DIGITAL!", when in reality their Imax screens are actually capable of both film and digital, depending on what the movie requires. It might explain why you're seeing it advertised as a digital projector, when it's still classified as showing TDKR in 70mm.

Thanks!
The problem is that it is MOST theatres and not ALL theatres.
Gotta figure which is watch

Already bought my tickets. WOOOOOOOOOO. 7:20 on Friday. This is gonna be awesome. Good to know we get the real IMAX instead of the LieMAX (which I was just reading about, seems like a scam).

Just put down my $60 for the 8:30pm screening on Sat. July 21st at IMAX Melbourne. Pretty happy camper right now.

I am just so happy for allocated seating, screw the US system where it doesn't matter what time you actually buy your tickets. Standing in line to get a good spot is for concerts, not a fucking movie. Got me some pretty good seats too, despite the fact that my girlfriend wanted end of the row seats at first.

Now, it's time for me to bale out of this thread. I've got my tickets and I'm going on black-out, see you in 5 weeks!

I'm going to watch the movie a week or two after it debuts in theaters. Easier to get a good seat that way. I may even watch it during the afternoon one day. If I'm going to watch a movie at the theater alone, I go then. If I'm with a friend, we go at night.

Just for the experience I went and saw TDK on a dome in Philly. It was terrible. Everyone had fat heads and I am not joking! Avoid domes

That's what I figured. The one in Birmingham is a dome, and I was immensely disappointed when I saw the prologue, and couldn't understand how someone could watch an entire blockbuster on it.

After my experience I strongly believe that no feature film should ever be allowed to be shown on a dome. I wonder if Chris Nolan knows how horrible TDK looked on those screens

Waiting in line for hours is half the fun! iPad, board games, books, nerd talk, that's what opening weekends are all about.

I would agree, and it was for me during TDK, but not when you are married.

Its hard enough for the wife to come to grips with all my obsessions and go along with them, but to ask in line for 3-4 hours just to get good seats gets tough.

Plus as much as I love to watch movies with a big group of friends, some of them always show up last minute while we get nasty stares trying to save them seats. Assigned seating would solve that right away.

I am going to the 220 show at Lincoln Square on a Saturday. I am thinking of getting there by 12 noon. I don't know how early people will line up for a relatively early show on a Saturday afternoon versus the 6pm and 10pm shows for which I know people will line up up-to 4-5 hours before (like they did for TDK).

wtf! My wife and I stand in line for hours for movies, I stood for her when she wanted to see hunger games and DH1 and 2. She stood with me for Avengers and will for TDKR. Give and Take. it always works

Ugh, the only "real" IMAX showing it in Tampa is a dome, I'd rather watch it on a liemax than on a dome.

Yeah don't even think about the dome.

99% of the country is going to watch the movie in your standard theater and while you won't be able to see the difference in the footage shot with IMAX cameras, at least you won't get a completely distorted view.

Even in reaMAX people have to make sure to get there early and avoid the front rows. Front few rows suck ass and you strain your neck trying to watch from side to side. Watched MI4 like this and hated the experience.

Yeah well she is willing but I doubt I can get her to go before noon. Ideally, since I don't want to risk it after paying the steep price for IMAX, I would get into Manhattan by 10am and hang out around the theater just to make sure there is no line forming.

Might still do that and find things for the girls in our group to do around the area so they don't have to wait in line the whole time.

I tell my wife she will get a 25 sephora gift card from me if she tags along for midnights as well. incentives! its what we have to do ! but there are ocassions where you need to then take ur friends, its fun too

Yeah I saw the prologue in that theater. Terrible experience.

It sucks because we used to have a great IMAX, but I guess they got a better deal from Sony and now it's a "SONY 4K GIANT SCREEN" which I assumes means it won't get any of the IMAX footage.

Well I'm pretty sure it will still look amazing. Better than nothing.

I'm soooo confused. The WB website has my local IMAX as 15/70.

This website: http://www.lfexaminer.com/theaUSA.htm has my local IMAX as digital. The prologue wasn't being screened here in Dallas.

edit: now http://www.imax.com/extras/news/tix-now-on-sale-the-dark-knight-rises/ has my local IMAX as 15/70. Sweet. Don't need to make a roadtrip to Austin.
That one seems to be newly added for some reason. I checked a couple of weeks ago and the Fort Worth museum's domed screen seemed to be the only place that had a non-digital IMAX in the area. I bought tickets to the Dallas theater a little while ago, so it's good to see you reconfirm it.

I'll be seeing it on Friday evening. Let us all celebrate.
