Any fucking thing he wants.

I'm posting this again.

Nolan has mentioned his own version of a Howard Hughes movie which he originally put on hold because the Aviator came out.

I wonder if he finally does that now. He produced the new Superman movie which will be released next summer and he will serve as a producer for whatever new Batman movie WB has in 3-4 years.

I think that's actually his next project.

Definitely don't want a new Hughes film, Aviator was great. I want Nolan to go back to smaller scale stuff like his first film and Memento. Something about 1 character and a simple creative story with no super duper set piece action rocket bs.

iirc in some radio interview for Inception he also said he doesn't even own a tv, all movies he watches at home are film prints.

Hipster Nolan.
Tarantino is the same way if I recall.

I remember hearing around the time Memento finished that Nolan was to release two films -- The Prestige and something called The Exec.

So how in god's name is TDR supposed to top $200M OW?

Does it really matter? I'm confident I'll like it more, it's going to make a fuckload of money anyway so I don't care in the slightest. No way it doesn't hit $1b, but the 3D of Avengers is making a difference as well surely.

Don't do this Solo. We already have at least two threads shitting up Off-Topic for fanboy wars.

Fanboy wars? It was a simple question. After TDK's meteoric BO run, like it or not, a certain expectation was created for TDKR's performance. It was just assumed that it would break the OW record. And then Avengers came out of nowhere and kind of took the wind out of those sails.

Well at this point its kind of hard to tell. Casual moviegoers and friends I ask all know and are excited about Batman. So I think people will go but it won't beat the 200M record.

No 3D and it doesn't have the same appeal across all demographics like Avengers does. Avengers WOM has been amazing and that actually carried TDK too.

I think TDKR might beat Avengers overall domestically in the long run, won't break 200M opening weekend, and will lose out overall in the WW totals.

I just find it funny that the talk went from "TDKR can't beat TDK's opening weekend, Ledger's death, Joker, etc" to "Oh man, TDKR can't do $200M. Less appeal to kids, 3D tax, etc"

It's going to be REALLY successful, but if it makes $185M or something I'm sure people will yell bomba on GAF.

Legs is what matters here. Still I never would have thought Avengers would be a huge hit overseas. It seemed more like an American thing to me but it's doing very well.

Well that would just be dumb. $185M would be second best ever. You won't here a "bomba" out of me unless it were to open to like sub $150M.

The biggest debate to me was whether Hobbit or TDKR would be #1 worldwide for the year.

Avengers could potentially top both. Not saying it WILL, but this performance so far is better than even the most optimistic predictions. Next weekend domestic will really tell the tale.

Yes, it would be completely dumb, and that's the point. GAF (and probably the media) will sell the story that anything less than $200M is a bomba for TDKR. ANYTHING less.

I agree that sub $150M will be a huge bomba, and that's because we just saw a movie in March do over $150M.

I think WB marketing won't allow less than $150M to happen. Things are about to actually kick off in a week or two if they stick to TDK's marketing schedule.

Agreed. I always thought Avengers would do well, but TDKR and Hobbit battling for #1 worldwide grosser. But after the hilariously giant opening for Avengers, it is a brand new game.

That, and because TDK made over $150M. But I don't think a sub $150M opening is even remotely possible. It might not/probably won't top Avengers' OW, but it will without a doubt in my mind be the second biggest OW ever.

Like, let's say TDKR matches TDK's opening weekend attendance. That alone is nearly $180M.

If it does 70% of TDK's opening weekend attendance, that's $150M.

That's why I'm not really worried about it doing sub $150M. TDK is still one of the top 10 selling blu-rays every Black Friday (last Black Friday I believe it was 7th), so there isn't some backlash that people on internet forums keep saying is happening. Once the real marketing hits with TV spots, product tie-ins, etc hits, that's when you'll really feel it just like how it happened with Avengers over the last month.

There is a backlash, but its just among us internet geeks, which make up about 0.0006% of the audience :lol

There is no real backlash though, in any meaningful way.

A moderator at SHH who's been there for like 10 years said his friend saw a cut of the movie and thinks it easily tops TDK (I know this means nothing to you Solo!) and that grown men cried during the ending. Not hyperbolic at all!

I'm not ready for this!

I haven't cried since I was a small child but now I will prepare myself.

Good cry or bad cry?

I don't think Nolan has made a bad film yet (haven't seen Following) but 6/7 good/great films in a row (come at me, Nolan backlash hate GAF) is something not many directors have done, so maybe he'll fuck it up.
(I'm aware this post is mildly incoherent)
