Nobody knows for sure but it's in reference to Dent.

1. Wuertz (the guy in the bar)
2. Maroni
3. Maroni's driver
4. Maroni's thug (Dent grabs him almost off-screen before getting in the car.)
5. ?? (Some people say the cop Joker kills in Dent's hospital room)

I've read that Nolan said in an interview it would be addressed, but I don't really see how.

Thankfully 98% of this has been proven to be false already.

Whoa, really? I never noticed that.

The title of this thread reminds me...who were the 5 people that Joker killed that were referenced in the line of dialogue "5 dead, 2 of them cops".

I remember trying to count and the numbers didn't add up.

Definitely Weurtz, was the other cop the one Joker shot at the hospital? Could maybe be pinned on Dent when he breaks out.

Maroni driver, Maroni, Maroni henchman. That's 5

TWO OF THEM COPS

"You are as precious to me as your movva and fotha. I swore ta dem dat I would protect you, and I haven't."

I had to re-listen to that sentence a couple times to get what Alfred was saying. Was he talking with his mouth full of marbles?

A long time ago, I woz in Burmah. Me mates and I woz workin' for da local govahment. They woz tryin' to buy da loyalty of tribal leadahs by bribin' dem with precious stones. But their caravans woz bein' raided in a forest nawth of Rangoon by a bandit. So, we went looking for da stones. But in six monfs, we never met nobody who traded with him. One day, I saw a child playin' with a rooby da size of a tangerine. The bandit had been frowin' dem away. Because he fought it woz good sport. Because some men ain't looking for anyfing logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch da world burn.

I meant Dent, sorry about that.

That thug grabbing off-screen thing is epic, though. Definitely never saw that!

Yeah, that always felt a bit too on the nose for me, so I'm glad that the Nixon stuff didn't pan out.

Still, I wonder what's going to separate him from Gordon and Blake. We're going to be following three cops, so there's got to be a reason for it.

Foley probably takes over when Gordon's in the hospital.

I thought the 5 were

1. Wurtz
2. Maroni
3. Maoni's driver
4. The two cops in the Hospital

But I just saw the clip about the guy grabbed off screen so I guess one cop in the Hospital. Add 1 more murder charge for Batman for killing Dent.

Joker even have a son in the comics?
I guess the only reason it's a rumor is because Ledger and Jiggles look like brothers basically?

Because it was poorly shot.

No, it was well-shot. That was totally the point, to not see it coming.

There's a lot of questionable edits and staging in Nolan's films, but that wasn't one of them.

Haha wow, never noticed this.

Doesn't make sense that the guys so quiet though.

Same thing happens when Joker kills Gambol and the other two guys with nary a peep. Bothers me but it's probably to keep the PG-13 rating.

Foley probably takes over when Gordon's in the hospital.

That's what I'm guessing. I imagine he (sorta speculation, but part spoiler)
probably gets trapped underground with the other cops in that explosion you see in the trailers though.

It is questionable. It would be well shot if the audience were better able to see it clearly and the bad guys werent. Right now most people just assume Dent was waiting in the car.

I disagree; it was shot that way to make you just as surprised as Maroni was that Dent would be in the car the first time you watched. However, it was just on-screen enough that upon rewatch there's an explanation as to why Dent would just be chilling, half-dead, in a car with a driver who says nothing about it.

If Nolan's intent was for it to only be noticed months later by rabid fanboys who scour every frame, then it was well shot. If his intent was to make it clear that Dent took out a man before getting in the car, it was poorly shot.

The scene plays out as if the audience is suppose to be surprised along with Maroni. It's obviously meant to have Dent's attack noticed later if you didn't see on a first viewing. Come on Solo.

This. The shot could have been done a lot better if Nolan wanted to show that a man got taken out.

I'm curious. How many people noticed that on their second or third viewing.

Next you're going to be telling me that easter eggs are poorly shot because people don't notice them until later. It's a side explanation, shot to answer a question a discerning repeat viewer might have (how did he get in that car without anybody doing anything about it?) but done in a way that your initial focus is on Maroni getting in the car (so you can go OH SHIT like him the first time).

I can't believe this is going from "neat!" to another example of Nolan's problems. The scene was shot for logical continuity nitpickers like you Solo!

And yet people see the movie 10 times and never pick up on it.

So it's not "obviously" meant to be anything.

The attack isn't obvious, but the intent is. If you want to convince yourself it was poorly shot and Nolan's intent was for everyone to see Dent attack him, go ahead. It's a damn easter egg if you pay attention, I hear lots of movies have these.

This is almost as dumb as the Joker's spill argument.

Vital narrative information now hidden in easter eggs! Next time Batman is watching his thousand television sonar-feed, Nolan should keep the focus on Bruce while showing Alfred die on one of the bottom-right hand screens and never explain it again.

As much as I'd like to disagree with Solo after this morning's Munich crack, that was poorly shot.

Vital would mean that Nolan wanted the audience to know Dent was already in the car before Maroni got in...yet, still cut it as if it's suppose to shock them?

Is that what you think he wanted?

Hmm. You made me watch it again and I will concede your point. I'm switching teams like Ray Winstone in Indy 4.
