The Dark Knight SPOILER THREAD

I disagree. The movie presented all the characters as straight up black and white portrayals of good & evil. And the movie kept ricocheting between a stern warning of 'justice' at any cost and that villains can not be saved or reasoned with. And lets not forget the conflicted dichotomy that people can make their own fate and then in the end reducing them down to cattle that need to be steered for their own good.

Basically, what Nazgul_Hunter said. In the case of Harvey, he kidnapped and nearly shot one of The Joker's pawns so as to extort information. "Gotham's White Knight" though he may be, that doesn't sound very black and white to me.

Likewise, Harvey is still consciously aware of the moral implications--or immoral, as it were--of his rampage as Two-Face. "Do you think I want to escape from this?!" He's not totally blinded by what The Joker has set into motion, and I don't think it was even largely his doing: as he said, "all it takes is a little push." Harvey was already almost over the edge with vengeful hatred when Nurse Joker paid him a visit. I think that Harvey had intended to seek revenge with or without The Joker getting involved; the latter merely exacerbated the situation.

Ace Ventura playing The Riddler wasn't good or fun at all.

Because that turns Batman back into a "campy" franchise again and the greatest thing about The Dark Knight was the close to 0 "camp". The comedy was usually smart or dark. The magic trick bit for example/

I think it'd be interesting to have Jim Carrey as the Riddler once more. Granted his performance in Batman Forever was all green spandex and Ace Ventura but then.... that's what Schumacher hired him for. Lets face it no villain came out of those two films looking good.

Now Carrey has established himself as a serious actor I reckon he could do a pretty good job at a cold, calculating, socially awkward maniacal genius.

Failing that, is Napoleon Dynamite available?

I'd like to see Kevin Spacey as the Riddler if they did have a Riddler. I think he could do it pretty well, and doesn't seem too "obvious" as to how he would play it.

Michael Emerson would be awesome as The Riddler.

That's why he'd never be cast as Riddler. Nolan would pull a character actor out of the sky and completely baffle us, then show us why he had him in mind all along.

Shut up, we want Benigma for Riddler.

Batman Triumphant was originally supposed to star George Clooney as Batman and Chris O'Donnell as Robin/Nightwing, both actors reprising their lead roles.[34] The villains were going to be the Scarecrow (played by either Jeff Goldblum, Steve Buscemi, Christopher Lloyd, or Nicolas Cage) and Harley Quinn, who would have been the daughter of the Joker. Also, Jack Nicholson was rumored to come back as the Joker in a dream sequence.[33] However, due to poor results from Batman & Robin, Triumphant was canceled and Warner Bros. commissioned more scripts.
Holy shit, I would've loved to see how this turned out :lol

Also more info I found.

ere is what Total Film magazine reported in the late 90's:

- The Scarecrow makes Batman hallucinate previous enemies, although the only actor genuinely considered for this was Jack Nicholson

- Nicholson said in a 1997 press-conference, "The Joker is coming, and that's no laughing matter." He also told the press he wrote a storyline of how the Joker could return.

- Harley Quinn would either be the Joker's wife or daughter, out for revenge.

- Dick goes to college where he find Jonathan Crane doing fear experiments.

- Batmobile chases the Scarecrow on horseback thru dark woods in a homage to Sleepy Hollow (not the film).

- Schumacher was so fascinated by CGI he wanted to create Batmite.

- Would have been Schumacher's last movie.

Apparently Batman would get gassed by Crane in the movie and would be haunted by all his old villains, including The Joker.

Agreed. Its not so much the lines though as it is Caine's great delivery.

Keep Superman's world out of the Batman films. I hate crossover shit.

Speaking of Caine and Superman, in an interview in the newest EW, Nolan says that Michael Caine said this, and I quote:

"Superman is the way America sees itself, but Batman is the way the world sees America."

Great line.

I knew Al Qaeda would fight back, but this is different. They crossed the line.

Actually, it makes the "you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" line seem really directed at the US.

im sorry, i know its been discussed before but how big is the difference between Imax and regular theaters? is it like "yeah it is better" or is it mind-blowingly better? i just want to know if its really worth the longer drive and more expensive tickets to watch The Dark Knight again with my family. talking about the AMC Imax theater in NY if anyone has any experience there.

There's no comparison.

If you can see it at the IMAX, see it at the IMAX.

Simple as that.

So if Nolan completes the trilogy, who would you guys think should play Harleen Quinzel?

I'm guessing Nolan would want to make it apparent that Joker is still alive without casting another and inferior actor to portray him. Harley would probably be the best way to get that across.

I don't see Nolan casting any of the villains with their tricky names. No Edward Nygma (Mr. Reese is even stretching it), no "Harley Quinn", etc. Too gimmicky.

Batman is a gimmick

heck at this point he should be called billionaire-spelunking-base-jumping-cyborg-ninja-man (with horns!).

why nolan feels he has to explain everything in a comic-book (FANTASY) movie is beyond me

The thing that Nolan does best is present a comic book in a believable way. When Bale says, "I'm Batman" in Batman Begins, its not cheesy, its fucking awesome. Nolan is great at suspension of disbelief.

However, he also formed the "Nolanverse" so that if the Joker ever called himself the Joker, or if Two-Face ever called himself Two-Face...it would be stupid. Hearing Gordon say, "Harvey Two-Face" was chilling enough. Okay, MAYBE I could see the Joker calling himself the Joker, but to do that requires something of an ego and for some reason, I just saw the Joker as extremely confident and knowing, not cocky.

If the next film has any, "Her name is Harley Quinn...Harlequin. That's IT!"

Nick Steele ... Batman / Bruce Wayne

oh my god. i wonder if they will go so far as to kill the joker. i can see it now, jokers doing some crazy thing and suddenly something happens and he dies. i dont think it would go over so well...

So i heard that Heath Ledger is going to be parodied in Disaster Movie. Did anyone else hear anything about this?

Disaster Movie, eh? I have a feeling that will end up being one of, if not the most aptly named movie ever.

Just a feeling.

I dunno, Ive always felt that line was pretty cheesey, mostly due to the crappy Batman voice Bale does.

Another 10.5M yesterday. Its officially the biggest grosser of the year and I dont think any PORS (piece of rotting shit) movie can touch it now.

I saw the trailer for Disaster Movie before the Dark Knight and it was possibly the worst trailer I have ever seen.

Then the trailer for the new Adam Sandler film was shown..... which came a very close second.

Still, I got nothing against them parodying the character of the Joker in the movie, but I don't think they'll go so far as to mock Heath Ledger.

I really don't think anyone could make Catwoman a cool villain but if someone could it would be the brothers Nolan. I would hope for the Riddler or perhaps since Batman is wanted it would be interesting if in the eyes of the public Batman was the villain and the villain was the hero.
She wouldn't have to be a villain, she can be the morally grey Selena/Catwoamn that tempts Bruce/Batman and tests his ethics and strains his duality. Catwoman is a great character, especially in the past few years.

This. I want somebody I'd never expect to do it. I mean, who expected Ledger to be amazing?

Exactly why I dont want Depp.

i dont care about a no name or a big name. i just want a actor who will invest himself completely into the character and give it their best.

thats depp to me. yeah hes famous and known but he is considered one of the best actors for a reason.

but whoever they go with im sure it will be a great choice.
