A) It's not part of the movie, it's just an extra detail to make the Joker look even more sadistic.

B) It was Ledger's idea for the Joker to have the peeler, not Nolan's.
 
you know what just struck me randomly yesterday when i was sitting around doing next to nothing? i was thinking about the scene where they show all the knives (and the potato peeler) that they confiscated from the Joker... does he even stab anyone in the movie?

i have a feeling he stabs batman in the scene where they first meet in the penthouse (maybe with a knife on his shoe? can't quite remember), but for the most part, i remember him using mainly guns, which is odd.

He stabbed two of Gambol's thugs as he was sitting up on the pool table.

Jokers kills with a knife -- Gambol's men, Gambol himself, stabs batman at the penthouse with the shoe-knife, would have probably stabbed Rachael in the penthouse at the end of his story if batman hadn't jumped in, probably kills the officer by cutting his throat after making the phone call in jail, and finally attempts to stab batman again on the top floor of the high rise while saying "of all the familiar places" or something like that.

Is that it?

I picked up the two disc DVD and started looking through the extras last night. Are the two short documentary pieces the only behind the scenes stuff? (Making the Batpod/suit and the music)? For some reason I thought there was something more comprehensive included.
 
I liked Dark Knight 10X better watching it at home than at the theater.

The coughing, seat rustling, pop-corn chewing, txt msgs made me lose little tidbit during the movie and subtleties

when I watched it on BluRay at home... aH!!!! sooo much better. Go more inside the character's heads, got to savor the Joker's speech to Harvey into more insight to the point where I agree with the Joker and ect.

Maybe I just haven't seen enough movies in a US theatre yet, but this kind of thing normally doesn't bother me. I'm generally absorbed by the movie, and it's loud enough to not hear someone shuffling.
 
I get off on crowd reaction tbh. It actually makes a movie more immersive, minus the crying baby. Why would you bring a toddler to the movies?!?!

Damn you had a bad crowd then. Every time I saw the movie, it was absolutely silent except for when the crowd cheered during a few scenes, particularly when Gordon came back from the dead.

I agree. Obnoxious movie goers notwithstanding, it makes it a lot more enjoying. It makes terrible movies a little more tolerable.
 
holy shit wat is this digital copy? i just downloaded it onto my itunes and i am shocked at how crappy it looks. im watching it on actual view size and the black bars above and below the movie have red green blue dots all over.

i dont think ive ever seen this, is it my monitor? its a new dell widescreen...but all other black bars on movies look fine. just this digital copy.

I think it's intended for small screens. Like the Ipod/Iphone or something. I'm sure it looks pretty bad if you stretch it out on your monitor.

I'm worrid for the third movie becuase of the bigness of it, and also too much success of the second could make the direction go too crazy because of him being too overconfident of his skills. you know out of all the scary stuff the joker does what the gangster falconey says to bruce wayen in begins was the most scary since you could actually relate to it....it would be more refreshing if the third movie was on a smaller scale, instead of big crazy shit blowing up all the time.

on maggie she looks nice I think. she is like a flapper or something, she couldof have been a big star in the silent movies.

i got it as well--and it's a waste of money. there isn't even an hour worth of extras on the second dvd. i kept telling myself, ''get the one disc dvd, you know you're going to regret it if you don't!'' i blame the steelbook case
 
I finally saw this movie yesterday (which is funny since I bought it for my secret santa), and it definitely lives up to the hype. I gotta say though, I hate Christian Bale in this role. Of all the dynamic characters, Batman is the character that seems most one dimensional. I guess they were avoiding any more expansion on his story after the origin story of Batman Begins, but some character development would be nice. He just seems like a douchebag; I'd marry Dent too. He's got that killer smile.

Batman's character development as a person is in Begins. TDK is about his development as a force, and how his presence influences the rest of the city.

I enjoy all movies at home or imax better. To me the crowd sucks, because they always cause me to miss something. I have never had a noise problem when going to imax.

Well @ the movie theater I go to, they have toddler representations where you'd find moms and their families in the room. Any other time during the week, toddlers aren't welcomed.
 
Im watching this critics choice thing on VH1, and everytime they show Bale I get the feeling he's going to start his drunk Bruce Wayne rant.
 
Just watched the Critics Choice awards and Slumdog Millionaire won way too many awards.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great film, but it won for sound composition or whatever the category is and give me a goddamn break lay off Danny Boyle's peener weener. Rarrgh!

I don't think that TDK should win best picture (for the Oscars) but it certainly should win a lot of other awards for performance, casting, and would be nice to see Nolan get some respect with the director spot, but please God no more Slumdog.

Overrated *clap, clap, three-fast-claps*.
 
I didn't agree with Slumdog winning so much, but TDK had a good night regardless. It can be argued that it could've won Best Ensemble, but lets be honest, Milk has a fucking awesome ensemble.

Best Picture should've gone to Wall-E, if you ask me.

Goyer: It's not going to be much greater than it is already. (Laughs) It just made so much money. Trust me, the pressure is insane. It is the single most important thing on Warner Bros.' agenda. There's enormous pressure. I guess there's a knock-off effect with me and Jonathan because we're the ones who Chris is looking to to "convince me that there is a third one."

Beaks: But you guys are off doing your own things now.

Goyer: As Chris said, we're musing. He just needs to be convinced that there is a story that has credibility. I was talking to him the other day, and I said, "It's at least a movie that the audience clearly wants." And he said, "I agree, but 'wanting' and 'getting it'... that doesn't mean it'll be a great movie." And if it's not a great movie, then to spend three years on it is kind of heartbreaking.

Beaks: All you have to do is get Eddie Murphy, and you guys are set!

Goyer: Or Cher. Or Shia LaBeouf.

i don't think the genre of comic book movie is taken seriously enough yet to get the BIg prize. I'm glad Heath won. He did a fantastic job with it and proved me wrong when I balked at his casting. One of my favorite performances ever.

it wasnt stretched out. it was on the "actual video size" mode, which was actually pretty big. i havent seen how it looks on my iphone yet though. hoepfully its better.

You should look up this guy's history of movie reviews. He has the absolute worst taste I've ever seen; he bashed every Oscar season film, but lavished a tremendous amount of praise on Transporter 3.

It had so much more life to it. I thought the story was much better and it was visually more impressive. It's a fun, powerful, authentic film put together by quite possibly the best director of his generation.

This is Dan Mecca, the kid who wrote the article. I understand that the Joker is difficult to explain, but he is still a person who must devise plans in order for them to succeed. Like I said, the film is incredible nonetheless, but when I re-watched it, I could not help thinking HOW he could have done any of it. Is he a psychic? I would love to ask Chris Nolan and see if he could answer me. And as for the Dent quote, you make a good point. How about this "off-the-cuff" Dent soundbite then (which I am paraphrasing): "Either you die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain."
