The difference between 60 and 120 fps is... pretty massive

Well, I wouldn't say so, human eyes are an adaptive organ and adapt very well to different conditions. I have retro consoles, I have new consoles, I have a PC and I playing on 30 (and on some retro consoles even less...) and on 60 and on 120. And over the years I have adapted so much that I simply don't pay attention to it. Do I see the difference between 30-60-120, of course, does it bother me when playing? No. Here, most likely, the most problems are with people who constantly and continuously play on 120 for several years, and their eyes have already gotten used to such conditions, then yes, it will cause discomfort.
exactly. You get used to whatever pretty quickly.

But people who want to be bothered will be bothered.

It blows my mind that the console world is only realizing this phenomenon in 2025 while in the PC realm we figured it out around 1998

I just say this: Never ever, ever change FPS in the middle of the game or play games with different FPS's back to back.

As long as the game is good I don't care about FPS but my eyes and naturally my brain cannot handle 30 FPS after 60 FPS in short intervals. Hell, one time my mama wanted me to check her phone about something and I use 120 Hz phone and when I started to use her 60 Hz phone and it felt so choppy.

Majority of you probably won't agree with me but I can play games with 30 FPS no problem. Just one condition: No technical problems, steady 30 FPS. I like games because they are games and fun. If I stuck with something else (FPS etc.) I cannot enjoy games. Don't care FPS, just give me good story without technical problems. But I digress.

Again: Never, ever, change FPS in the middle of the game.

Not once you've noticed the motion clarity that very high fps brings.

You guys always have to over-exaggerate these things. Yes, if a whole game was a moving piece of film in my face I would notice but even the fastest FPS you are not on the constant move nor do you keep looking at one identlical patch of textures only. Same as for racing games, You arent going 300mph from start to finish to notice....hmmm yeah I can really tell micro stutters at 60fps lol. While the rest of us actually play these games, you can go get bamboozled by some salesman telling you need this 4000fps monitor because gaming without is unplayable and you will notice every single micro-movement because your eye tracking is better than Terminator T-1000.

I just finished the other day NFS The Run which by default is a 30fps game and not for one second did I feel like my gaming experience and thrill of a highspeed chase was diminished because it wasnt 240fps.

120 feels beautiful, 60 is the lowest I will go and still feels nice, especially on a gamepad. 30 is garbage. I've never tried higher than 165hz but 120hz to 165hz isn't massive, but still is noticeable.

I wish we had GPUs that play 4k120 without relying on framegen.

Maybe next gen...
Lol......Frame gen is here to stay.

Raw efficiency progress is almost at a stand still in comparison to the performance increases from Frame gen. And you some how think with Next Gen, where path tracing is likely going to become the norm will change this?

Battlebus imprisoning me \m/ >.< \m/
There was a period of time where I played Resident Evil Outbreak (PS2) in b&w because the 60hz mode was that much smoother/faster but my CRT couldn’t handle it.

The joys of pre-HD signals.

If going to PAL 60 causes black and white it was because of your cable, not the TV.

RGB cable would have had you playing in color @ 60.

If only you could go back in time!

Yes, yes it is.
You can still see blur in 60fps 2D games on a 60Hz screen. Especially if it’s OLED.
You can live with it, but it’s a compromise we shouldn’t have to deal with 20 years after analogue screens were retired.

Fuck path tracing.

Welcome to a future full of visual artefacts and glitches.

Black Myth Wukong looks horrible with FG.

I did wonder if that was a possibility when I was writing the post, funnily enough.

I wish I still had that little TV+VHS combo! I didn't appreciate the downgrade to LCD until it was too late. I think about sourcing a new CRT every now and then, but I don't really have the room.

For me it really depends on what I'm doing. If it's an action movie or FPS, 120+ is a must, but for slower paced media or most rpgs, I don't really care

It really is, the motion clarity difference is huge, got a 144hz UW monitor and while ultrawide's good, for my next upgrade i'll go for higher HZ instead, 240-360 at least.

120FPS is more of a big deal to me with mouse control and on competitive FPS like Apex , Overwatch.

But if it’s single player on controller I’m more than happy with 4k 90FPS or maybeeee 60

Eh, I dunno, past 60 it’s greatly diminishing returns

Just like resolution beyond 4k
false. I typically try to game at 100-144 fps consistently as it is super smooth. On PC you don't always have to choose between fidelity or frames. As for the 4K argument, I typically game at 1440p and prefer the overall resolution.
