Am I the only one who for some reason feels it is crazy satisfying and well....."cinematic" when you run from cover to cover during firefights?

Even though all i do is Point and hold space it just Looks and feels fantastic.

It reminds me of when I used to Play paintball, i did the same runs and slides and such.
And the way your character will run around obstacles is just cool.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
I like how Ubisoft gives me a "WE OPENED THE BETA TO EVERYONE" e-mail on the last day with a 25Gig + 800Meg update download to do.

Fantastic.

Just as I read this a friend rang with the same advice. Worked fine. Thanks!

I can't believe they assumed that people would know this. All it would have taken was a simple line under the access code saying that I should redeem it in the PS store.

I'll be sure to spare you in the DZ for your sterling efforts. As for the others on here...:)

Oh..and while I'm ranting. Ready in 2 hours?! What? I thought my PS4 was supposed to be faster than my Xbone. Ah well.

Thanks again.

Glad it's working! It's a 26gb download on PS4 so might take a while connection depending.

Such a good game I think, even with a ton of content, systems and areas missing/locked off. Hoping I can get a couple more hours this evening.

I really is. Me and a friend even found ourselves overlapping our cover as we headed down a corridor covering each other 'military style'.

The basic traversal is very solid, very satisfying. And the detail in the world is exceptional.

I think it's pretty straight forward that you should redeem the code on the PS4 to be able to start downloading the game to it. :p

So I played The Division PC beta for a bit yesterday, in between trying to getting to rank 5 in Iron Banner. Here are some initial impressions, with the caveat that I've only played for a bit and of course this is all IMHO which is sure to change over time.

Without the latest Nvidia drivers, there were graphical glitches right off the bat, but an install/reboot fixed that, and then no other issues getting right into the game and character selection. For a PC beta, this process was commendably straightforward and non-frustrating, and the out of the box settings were surprisingly good.

Things looked really great watching the intro videos and walking from the intro zone to the base. First not-great sign: the controls felt janky right off the bat - movement that was way too wide, aiming was difficult, and using the cover system felt not quite right. Some fidgeting in the menus fixed mouse sensitivity (set in 3 different settings) and auto-aim crap.

Graphics looked spectacular in 1440p Ultra, but I could feel the 30fps frame lock instinctively, even after turning off vsync. I enabled the frame counter and saw that it was hovering between 29-34 fps (I have an OC 780ti, which should be a bit faster than a 970). I dropped it down to high, and things moved to about 48fps, which felt much smoother (I use a Gsync monitor). Initially, I thought, the Ultra setting is not that much better, but actually it does matter quite a bit. It's the difference between console graphics good and PC gaming good.

I did some of the early missions, and right off the bat I could say this - the controls are not great. It doesn't feel as good as a 3rd person cover based shooter like the Gears or Uncharted series, neither does it feel right as an FPS.

The animation transitions are bad, and the "stickiness" to the cover modes (i.e. cover on/off) is nigh-on amateurish in execution. In order for a control scheme to feel right, you have to know what you want to do (and what's possible) and just be able to do it. And right now, in this beta, it's hit and miss. Even if things work most of the time like you expect, when it doesn't work the way you want and you end up doing something/ending up somewhere you didn't plan on, you start hating the controls.

At times, I feel like I'm playing drunk, when situations get sweaty. I'm sure some of this is just getting used to the controls, but a) I'm an experienced gamer and b) the control scheme is actually pretty standard and c) I played for a few hours and got a lot better at the game (i.e. I had no problem getting through encounters and leveling up), but overall - control felt janky.

There appears to be a lot of depth in the modding and gear system, but I'm a little concerned here too. I break loot based games into two buckets - the "1,000,000,00000000" weapons/armor games and the "lots of variety, but only a few 'special' items matter" games. I can't yet tell where this game falls on that spectrum.

The special sauce that some games have where buffs/perks/class spec + special gear = magic, I can't tell if this game has that yet. This formula was well done in both Diablo III (post fixes) and Destiny (IMHO), and I hope this game can capture that too, but it's really hard to tell from my limited experience with the beta.

Long after the freshness of content wears off in this type of game, you need a solid gameplay experience that's repeatable, fun and addictive. Some of that is control mechanics, "solidness" and "crunchiness", and some of it is the loot and PVP.

Eventually the shine wears off everything that is not refreshed, but I can't tell how long until the shine will wear off on this game. I'm not sure that the dark zone is enough of an end game. I'm not even 100% sure I will end up playing this game (in what I assume is its close to final state, sans extra content) all the way through to the point I would get bored of the endgame. Jury is still out.

I do feel like people who think/thought there wasn't enough content in Destiny will probably hit the same feeling here around the same time or sooner (although I could be wrong).

Anyone else finding this extremely hard to stop playing even though you feel you probably shouldn't be investing so much time in something that you'll have to do all over again? lol

You are not the only one. It's the same type of cover system from Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. I love it. It does the job efficiently and just looks so badass as well.

i found the controls on xbox very awkward. might be just because of the controller. i'm interested to see how it plays with keyboard and mouse but not sure if my pc will manage it at 1080p 60fps. (i5-4590/16gb/290. cpu is letting me down in relation to recommended specs).

also i hope that enemies become less of bullet sponges.

Ha, yeah. Have to remind myself not to get too attached to my beloved trendy wind breaker as its gonna be wiped soon, sadface.

I'm already hooked on the loot stuff, who knew I would be raging when some rogue guns me down and steals my bold winter parka.

This is super nit-picky but I'm hoping there's two-strap backpacks in the game.

I hate those one-strap bags! Plus they make zero sense in a survival situation. Not a big deal, just a little detail!

Nope, the controls are awkward with kb/mouse too (see above) although I haven't spent much time on it with my xbox controller, so I can't say how much worse that is, exactly. See my post above for more thoughts on the controls.

I got about ~45fps at 1440p with 780ti / i7-2600K @4. I will try it at 1080p to see how much difference that makes.

Anybody playing on PC willing to share their experience with the Beta's frame-rate? Playing this on a 980 (haha, not a 970 I know), I find the game can hop to and fro between mid-30's and mid-60's at the worst of times. I'm averaging around 45-48FPS and I've made sure my drivers and whatnot are up to date.

I'm curious to know if this is perhaps an isolated incident - and I'm just unlucky...or stupid...or possibly both - or this is a common theme across PC.

Question, I am on a 970. I run a mix of high/ultra @1080p. Mostly high on the lighting stuff. Run 40-70 fps consistently. Thing is this can drop from 68 fps to 42 and back up to 65 and I cant tell. no tearing, shudder, nothing. Yeah the image/frames are a little farther apart on a fast mouse turn in the 40s, but this game really doesnt need a super fast fps, its slower paced then reg. shooters. the engine really handles wavy framerates really well. If i have that flux in witcher3, I get all kinds of frame tearing unless I go vsync, and then that adds input lag in an already input laggy game. This is super crisp in the control department.

All that said, does it really matter to you if your popping 30-60? It wouldn't (doesnt) me at all. Did you turn the auto vsync off? maybe try that, its pretty much unnoticeable.

I was complaining about this the other day. This one strap stuff makes absolutely no sense and looks stupid. I'm not sure why they made the design decision to make them sling packs and ONLY sling packs. lol

I have loved those bags since Pokemon Sapphire.

Can't find one that looks good irl anywhere.

They look rediculous. They look like you should be carrying an iPad Pro and a pack of esigs to Starbucks. Not running missions and carrying heavy gear/equipment. lol

I cant stop trying to vault over cover with X (PS4). I've gotten myself killed a few times rolling when I was trying to vault. Some old Gears habits are hard to let go.

I think it's pretty straight forward that you should redeem the code on the PS4 to be able to start downloading the game to it. :p

I don't think so. For a start, if you've never done it before. How would I even know playstation has 12 digit codes. Every other platform I own has 16. I saw a shorter code and assumed it must be unique to uplay or something. When you design something, assume every customer is using your product for the first time.

I'm running into more and more people taking advantage of the out of bounds area in the DZ while rouge. At least it's not a viable exploit in the full game.

Never got to get past the epilepsy warning screen. Game just freezes/crashes from there.

This isn't on my PC, so hopefully I won't have issues with the main game or if so, Ubisoft is a little more on point than what they were.
