The problem is that most in game VOIP sucks - codec wise or settings wise.
e5YuU.gif

If you are using console VOIP you are already riding in bad codec train, and I own PS4 :D In-game VOIP is often same-ish quality as PSN Party VOIP.

You guys aren't getting it.

I'm not familiar with PC but I'm not saying they'd brute force your discord chat in. Thought that was impossible anyway. If you wanna use a 3rd party chat client that's fine. I wish you wouldn't because everyone being on gamechat is more interesting. If you use the in game voip everyone should hear you.

On consoles though, if you're in party chat on Xbox or ps4, and you hop into the dark zone, you get switched to gamechat. Similar to how call of duty used to force you to game chat.

If you wanna use a 3rd party to circumvent this I won't stop you, just wish you wouldn't. I'd love to be able to talk and interact with people I run into. Had a lot of great moments like that in closed beta but they were rare.

Software can take over your microphone, e.g. CoD loves to do this while defaulting VOIP to On and to voice activation. Console and PC players need to remember check those settings always when starting CoD for first time and disable that stuff. Surprisingly many don't realize this and then you get to listen stuff like private conversation between husband and wife about stuff.

Joining in-game proxy/zone VOIP should always be players choice, not games choice. Forcing people out from party chat lobby, in-game party chat or just in general enabling your mic with voice activation and having you join proxy VOIP is bad manner imo. Meeting randos and chatting with them can be a lots of fun and add to gaming experience, but I just don't see why that should be forced by game in any way.

Game has backpacks that have two straps. Here is backpack I found in beta, notice straps;
thedivision_2016_02_0xppwq.png

That's cool, but there isn't any appearance option for backpacks are there though? They are based on your actual equipment and not an appearance item, which means if you want to stick with one like that you could be with it for a long time.

This tends to be an unpopular opinion nowadays but fuck it.

I think once you enter the dark zone the game should force you into game chat. I feel like the ability to hear people talking is a big part of the DZ experience

From what I remember of the beta on PS4, you can still hear people speaking around you when you are in party chat. A friend and I were running down a street and suddenly there was strange shouting, at which point there was a guy running past us to an extraction point, God knows what he was saying because it was in a different language but you can definitely hear people around you regardless of what chat mode you are in.

I do disagree that you should be forced into it though, I understand such things for cheating reasons, but it would be annoying with a friend to have to talk to everyone else. People also like to say and play all sorts of nonsense, I don't want to have to listen to it.

I have to agree with you .In the closed beta I was not using any jackets because of this single strap which was bugging me quite a lot.I realised the tactical hoodie kinda works best with it and it was the only "jacket" I was using.

I don't want my soldier to look like this from behind ,Ubi!

Exactly!

So this is definitely the way PS4 was? I was in party chat but never heard anyone in the Dark Zone, maybe the people I got close to didn't have mics or something. I hope it ends up that way though, I want to be like, "boo!" and gank a dude from behind.

Being in a party on PS4 by default will silence voice chat audio from the game itself

My fav moment of the beta was when I met 2 other people through prox game chat and we teamed up. Saw two people trying to extract near that gas station.

We were stalking them and talking amongst ourselves if we should try and kill them. Then we hear "uhh we can hear you..."

Then one dude in our group said something like "SHIT THEY KNOW" and opened fire on them haha

So wait, even if you're in a party, players who are sufficiently close to you will still hear your audio in the general Dark Zone channel? Does this apply across platforms?

Apparently, and if this is forced on PC even with it turned off/keybind im getting pissed.

Certainly wasn't the case on Xbox party chats

Wed be talking and planning our setup for ambush and Randos never said anything about hearing us

Only when I was with ingame partys

All this talk of the forced voice chat in the console versions makes me glad I'm playing on PC. Push-to-talk in-game + Teamspeak on voice pickup(or just a different button) is great. I'm just assuming consoles don't have the option for push-to-talk, but somebody could check to be sure.

It might be a problem with other kinds of chats, but Teamspeak is an application that can take exclusive priority over voice capture devices (this can be changed in hardware and sound on the desktop control panel), so turning that on works as well, but it means you can't talk in-game at all when teamspeak is open.

I don't think others can hear you if you're in a PSN chat.
From the statements above they say you do if within the right range, regardless of chat, party or other.

Maybe wrong distance? I have no idea.

Not sure what button that would be, as everything is in use already.

I was in a PSN party the entire time I spent on the beta and no one ever heard us. We even had people trying to talk to us through proxy and based on what they said, I was never given an indication they could hear us.

That's why I assumed they didn't, but there might be an option for it somewhere(i.e. not assigned/turned on automatically at first, could be turned on and assigned by the player). I'm not sure how much the console version allowed for reassigning buttons.

If they're close enough to you they will. Even if you're in a group.

This is false. Game chat is broadcast in the dark zone, but if you're in a party, the default behavior is for game chat to be disabled in which case others won't be able to hear you. As far as the game knows, you don't have a mic.

I was thinking the same thing after watching a very cool PC rogue gameplay. Was this even enabled on the PS4 beta?

Same here. If you're in a party chat, other players can't hear you ingame. No matter the distance.

I wonder if players turret deals damage to you even when said player isn't rogue. Just imagine all that trolling and free kill potential.
  1. Player puts down turret
  2. Turret targets hostile NPC
  3. You step between turret and NPC, take damage
  4. Player turn into rogue without having say in it
  5. You kill said player
  6. Profit

Not on PC. Could talk to people just fine at extraction points, even when in a group.

Or maybe the turret will only deal damage to rogues and NPCs, and won't deal damage to normal players?

I don't know if there is a option for appearance, but during the beta I had a backpack with an upgrade slot. I never found an upgrade that was for it though.

All higher quality armor [includes backpacks] have mod slot, but there was no mods available in CB. I wonder what those mods do when appearance items were separate thing, and defined how you look no matter what armor you had on.

All? I can dig that. I imagine that things like knee pads could have cosmetic add-ons like skull faces etc, not so sure if there would be practical mods for all armor items though.

Edit: Scratch that. I can see them adding boosts to just about everything, and not just cosmetic overlays.

Seems I remembered tad wrong, sorry about that. Not absolutely every armor item had mod slot, at least not ones I found. Armor I had at end of CB; http://imgur.com/a/OgpMC

That makes sense for item rarity. I imagine that those mods are going to be a pain to find. I just hope that they are more inventive than just being a color filter to be used universally on all armor items with a slot.
They could do so much more with these.

My experience in the Dark Zone with party chat on PS4 was that others could not hear us. I could hear other players in range of me while still in party chat. I tried to talk to other players while in party chat and those players could never hear me.

I didn't see the patch notes mentioning the going out of bounds as rogue exploit

I assumed it was this:

Disabled the option to transfer Dark Zone brackets as a Rogue (This prevents players using Bracket Transfer as a means to escape after becoming Rogue)

Bracket transfers in the Beta of course meaning out of bounds areas
