I guess I am not worried about "end game" and "content" afterall because there is hardly fuck all to do in the beta but we still played for 6 hours straight and had a blast with friends.

I just booted the beta back up today and its made me redo settings and is replaying the tutorial video. Is that normal after server maintenance or have I lost my character? I cba playing if that's the case.

My favorite gaming moment this year is my 4 man fireteam working our way to an extraction with loot and calling it in and having another fire team walk up. It's tense as hell. We had this standoff where nobody knew what was going to happen. Some solo guy tried to get us so we all took him down and then took turns extracting.

Good times

Really enjoyed the Beta on PS4, do think it's a looker too...

Sounds exactly like what people said during the destiny beta lol. My god people please don't overhyped this game for it to be released and everybody to hate it as much as they did destiny. It took like, up until recently for the destiny hate to stop lol now people just don't pay attention to it.

Those missions look like Strikes to me. Go to dungeon/area and take down enemies in waves and defeat boss at the end. Yup, they're Strikes.
Haha I've already grinded the Hospital mission almost as much as any strike in Destiny, only I've actually gotten decent blues from it in the Division.

I think they should hide player names in the Dark Zone. I'm hesitant to go Rogue and steal someone's loot because they'll be on the lookout for my name again. I think it'd make it more tense when running into people. Although it's possible it'd make everyone go Rogue more.

So how is it when compared to Destiny?
I only ever played the Destiny beta. So in comparing betas, I'm much more about this.

I said the same thing last night.

So is there really no reason to play this game if you're not playing with friends? Thats the feeling I'm getting from playing this for a little while. (Only at level 5)

So how is it when compared to Destiny?

As a player who has played maybe over 1500 hours of Destiny, I would say this game is nothing like Destiny. I kinda wish people would stop trying to equate the two quite honestly. I'm not getting at you (sorry if it comes out that way). I think just because the two have shared co-op spaces doesn't mean they should be compared. I never once got a Destiny vibe playing this. The Division has some jank but it is addicting and fun to play.

So how is it when compared to Destiny?

I find it more similar to Borderlands. It's a TPS instead of FPS, and the abilities in the skill tree are more akin to what you'd find in Borderlands as opposed to Destiny. There are social hubs, like in Destiny, but the campaign (PVE) section of the map is like Borderlands in that it's single player unless you use matchmaking. The dark zone (mixed PVP and PVE section, but emphasis is on PVP it seems) is like GTA Online in that it's basically a free for all and your best option for survival is to group up.

I wouldn't say that. I have friends on PS4, but I'm playing the beta on PC. I went in the Dark Zone solo and found three other people and we teamed up and played for at least 2 hours together in the dark zone.

The AI is really pretty bad. I did the main mission thinking the people I fight in that will be smarter than random thugs on the street. Nope! I we had a group of 4 agents with with assault rifles and what tactic did the enemy use? Literally had like 8 straight enemies run straight at us with their baseball bats with no regards for cover, we gunned them down so easily and they just kept running with bats. You'd think guys like that would be prepared for gunfights and actually have guns lol and they would take cover considering they're gonna die if not, but no they just run at you stupidly with wooden bats. Not even a fair fight I feel bad for killing them.

Other than that I'm actually really enjoying the game and think I'll keep my preorder, hopefully the final game delivers on content. I think it's too late for them to make big changes to AI anyway so I'll just have to live with it.

Yeah their should be more npcs roaming around in the DZ it feels pretty boring with almost all the action in small contaminated zones and around the extraction site.

That's just an enemy type. On hard they were quite hard when there were 2/3 of us. It's definitely not 'bad' AI, it's intentional. We did think it was kind of funny too, but that's what happens when you make an rpg with human enemies [they need to be bullet sponges in order to allow for better tech to mean something].

The difference is that the Division never claimed to be a "ten year franchise with a huge living and breathing world and a story worthy of star wars and lord of the rings on your shelf"

Massive has always been honest saying "it is an RPG, set in New York, you can co-op it with up to three of your friends and in the Dark Zone you can have random PvP occur".

People should really look at this game a lot differently.

For me, it's an RPG like say Dragon Age Inquisition, where I get my 50-60 hours out of it only this time with my friends.

Well that's me done with the beta. I was looking forward to jumping into the lvl 8 dark zone tonight with some friends but I CBA grinding out the hospital mission again just to get there.

I kinda wish they put a random thug or two inside apartments. It would make it way more intense to go barging into every apartment for stuff, you'd at least have to check your corners. Because right now they're entirely safe, walking in on someone already tearing the place up for stuff would make it feel more alive and post apocalyptic to me. Plus the gun sounds indoors have good echoes! I want to hear more of that.

My friend and I have been ambushed by thugs who came into the main entrance and then up the stairs before while we were checking out an apartment.

Ahh that's cool! Still would like it to be less rare or actually have at least one already chilling in an apartment.

I think it will be about half the size of vanilla destiny. Can't wait to see if it gets the same criticism.

Destiny is definitely bigger, but this feels bigger because you have to walk everywhere instead of just pulling out a Sparrow and driving to where you want to go.

And then you realize that basically every one of the "transition corridors" and such in Destiny, that you drive your sparrow through, is completely useless in terms of game space and the game becomes quite a bit smaller again XD

Honestly, both games are fine. The city is crazy huge and detailed.

That moment when 10+ agents chase down a team of rogue agents and someone "accidentally" lands a head shot on a teammate. So much for being the good guys.

Think I'm about done with the beta now. Pretty much got all the items worth getting and seen enough to know that I'm still interested. Still find it odd that you can't fast travel to the entrance of the dark zone.

I will say this engine performs really nicely. I usually have to switch to controller when my framerate is around 30 in games because the fast movements of the mouse with that framerate clashes to me and feels horrible. But in this game my framerate is fluctuating mostly in the 40 range and sometimes down to 30 and I never feel it, the input from the mouse stays super smooth and I swore my game was running at 60 fps before I turned on my fps counter and was surprised to see it at 35. I've never had that happen in any other games, I usually feel the framerate drop immediately.
Plus the mouse and keyboard controls are really nice, I've always preferred a controller for 3rd person games and thought I would here but they did a really good job making m/kb feel great in this game.
I think I will buy this game now not only because I enjoy it, but because I can be confident in they made a really good PC version, when the beta performs this good.

I was gonna mention that but I'm on my phone.

From CM Natchai_Ubisoft:

"We are continuing to experience very high demand for The Division closed beta and we would like to thank you all for your enthusiasm.
We are now beginning to grant access to all remaining players who have redeemed a guaranteed access pre-order code on the Beta registration website.
We’re also doing our best to grant access to players on the waitlist. Please check back later during the weekend for an update on this.
We thank you again for your excitement and understanding."

I figure they might have it go a little longer due to code issues and such. You would think they would want to do that to maximize the mostly positive vibes the game is getting.

Well, I will be back in it shortly - going to try the hospital mission on hard, and then try my hand at the DZ and see how long it takes for me to rage quit after getting ganked repeatedly*

*Just kidding, but seriously, I know I am dead meat in the DZ when I get in there, but you have to try and "git gud" or else you will never know.

Yep the game does need a fast travel system.

Yep the game does need a fast travel system.

It has one.

You fast travel to social spaces. In the beta that's the Camp Hudson, and then the BoO.In the full game it's all safe houses.

You also can fast travel directly to your friend in the party.

You can't fast travel to the Dark Zone or out of the Dark Zone, because they don't want people to just teleport away or teleport in. Imagine if I was standing in the road and you walk up to me to get my loot. And then my 3 friends magically teleport in and kill you.
Not a good idea.

I'm talking about fast travel outside to the entrance.
